I'm Having A Hysterectomy - Should I Keep My Cervix?

Monday July 21, 2003
Voices of Hysterectomy Forum: I am 30 yrs. old and I'm due to have my hysterectomy in a month. I can't say I'm concerned about having the hysterectomy done, but I am concerned b/c my doc wants to take my cervix. I will be keeping my ovaries. I've always heard that removing the cervix takes away from "sexual satisfaction." I've also heard some women say they have no change. I would love to hear from both sides of the fence. I have had positive Pap's in the past and surgery to correct those problems, so I can understand his concern. Would you keep your cervix?

I am a 50 year old due to have my complete hysterectomy in 2 weeks. From the research I have done I believe it is worth trying to keep your cervix for added support of the other organs. On the downside you will still need an annual pap smear . I am concerned about bleeding because I have a 6 inch fibroid taking up most of my abdomen.
