Pulsating - Throbbing - Tingling Vagina

Tuesday August 5, 2003
Women's Health Forum: Have been experiencing a constant pulsating/throbbing sensation within my vagina - similar to when an arm or limb has fallen asleep. A sort of tingling for the last two weeks. Sitting/standing/lying down makes no difference. Cannot imagine what this could be. Pored over the net for days without finding a proper explanation. I am 51 - regular periods - hypothyroid sufferer. No menopausal symptons. Had regular batch of menopausal tests done in June. Would appreciate any feedback please! What do you think?

(4) Karen K. says:

I have been experiencing similar feelings, although to me it almost feels like a 1 second mini orgasm. I always feel it on the left side of the inside of my vaginal wall, about 1/2 inch or so in. I could be sitting, standing, laying down. It is very annoying and I don’t like it. If anyone has any information it would be helpful. I’m 46, perimenopausal, still have regular periods. Does this have something to do with the change? Could it be parasite?

I have been trying to figure out the same thing. Although, I do think that mine is a little different. I constantly feel this pulsating feeling in my vagina. I have felt it for a while now, and it can get so annoying, to the point that I cannot sleep!!! I have had enough. I had it before I had sex, and I did think it would stop once I lost my virginity, but it hasn’t. In fact, I think it has become more intense!! It’s like a pulse or heartbeat, that is like…thumping in my vagina. It is a a similiar feeling that I expereice when my husband orgasims inside me. But it continues after!!! And If I don’t have sex, then I notice the feeling as soon as I lie down!!! I have had enough. It is really annoying, and it is affecting my sleep! Please help!!!!

Ok I posted in the past and ladys we have PGAD (persistant genital arousal disorder). It was first reconized as an actual medical disorder in 2001. Alot of doctors havent even heard of it yet. ladys there is also a support group for this. they still dont know how you get it or how to stop it. women this is real and we must research and stand up so we can find the cause and the cure. I will keep praying for all of us who have this disorder. KEEP STRONG.

(19) Maria says:

I have the same thing. It’s making me go crazy. I can’t sleep sometimes and it only happens every so times a year. The person I talked to about this said that it’s possible that it may be a UTI.

(20) Lisa says:

Two things with all that ive’ read that it could be.. Herpies, or a yeast infection.

(21) lina says:

I’ve been having the same problem for about a week now. First I thought it could be bladder infection or chlamydia, but it feels different. I can’t find anything online that’s even close to my symptoms. It’s really really annoying and uncomfortable. Help me!

April 30, 2008 at 9:06 pm
(22) tarra says:

I have the same thing and my doctor is testing me for diabetes and testing my thyroid.
He says it is actually very common and that likely it goes misdiagnosed as a yeast infection. The difference between this and a yeast infection is discharge. If you have any, he said likely a yeast infection and you can buy a kit at the drug store.
If you have none, request that your doctor order a blood test for any abnormalities in your glucose (diabetes) and any abnormalities in your thyroid.

I will update when he gives me a diagnosis.
Its really annoying whatever it is!!

I too am experiencing this. Along with this is the LACK of desire for intercourse. I’m 41 but had a hystorectomy at age 22 although I still have overies. I don’t know what to do. This has just started a week ago. Is there anything that can be done to stop it? I also fee a warm sensation but no difference in vaginal discharge or such. Any information would be appreciated.I’m too embarrassed to really talk to a DR. about this…

(24) Amy says:

I am very excited that I am not alone in this very annoying problem!!!! I first thought it was because I changed the brand of pads I use but it has not stopped and it has been 2 weeks. My symptoms are as everyone elses …please write if any of you find something out. I have a call into the doctor & hopefully she will have if not an answer at least an explination.

(25) Cherri says:

Hello, I am 31 will be 32 in July and I’ve experienced this throbbing/pulsating feeling about a week after my menstral cycle and toward the end of ovulation. Yes, the sensation last about 2-5 seconds and sometimes has a bubble like feeling but nothing comes out. I’m usually intune with my body and I’ve never experience this feeling before. However, am amazed to know women of different ages are experience this same problem. I have decided to make an appt. to see my gyne. I will be happy to post whatever information I receive. Take care ladies. I will pray about this unknown medical condition and for you all. Be Blessed.

Thi started for me about 3 days ago. At first I couldn’t decide if it felt really great or not. Now I am so over it and want it to go away. For those who have seen their doctors what did they say?

(27) eah says:

I can’t believe noone yet has an answer for this. i’m editing an erotic, steamy novel now and this – persistant genital arrousal condition is driving me brezerk. I need a cigarette and i don’t even smoke. I wish there was something to do to stop it! It’s interfering with my work!

May 21, 2008 at 2:15 am
(28) Cherri says:

Maybe we all should determine if stress, a particular drug, foods, herbs or chemical that offset this problem. We might all have a common link to this problem. Havent made it to the doctor yet. We might have to go public to get the problem recognized.

(29) lina says:

Hi, I left a comment about 3weeks ago. ever since, I visited 2 different clinics, and they diagnosed me w bladder infection and yeast infection, so I thought the throbbing/pulsating feeling was because of those 2 infections. I went back to the clinic the other day, and my doctor said the infections are gone, but guess what, this throbbing/pulsating sensation is still there!!! which means this has nothing to do with those 2 infections I had.
I’ve been having this problem for about a month now. It’s so annoying!

Iv been havin regular periods since the removal of this implant. Sittin, standin, layin down… its not comfortable, and i dont liken it to an orgasm. I would love to know wat this is, as im gettin quite concerned :S

(35) Fran says:

Thank God I’m not the only one!!!
I’m 19 and I’ve been getting the tingling sensation, it seems to be when I sit down but it’s getting more frequent. I was panicking that it was a symptom of an STD/STI, so the fact that so many more people have it is kinda putting my mind at rest.
It’s annoying, and I’ve started to get lower abdomial pain, like menstural cramps.
Anyone got ANY answers??

July 4, 2008 at 8:54 am
(36) Fran says:

Add on: I am on the pill, just to see if there’s a common link seeing as people have made previous references to birth control

(39) Rachel says:

I have the same feelings at first it was here and there, but now it’s all the time. It gets worse when I think about the pulsating or the tingling. It also feels a little goopy, like it starting to get disharge..when I go to the bathroom to check for disharge. There’s nothing there more then the normal. At first I thought there was something wrong with me, becuase I though everything was turning me on. Like if there was a child on T.V. and I would have that pressure and tingling..I thought it was, becuase of children and I flipped out..but now it’s all the time when I’m doing nothing. Did anybody else freak out like that. Like they thought everything was turning them on? I Also, have to pee every 30-45 min and every hour at night.

i’m 15 almost 16 and i’ve been having this same problem for about 3 weeks close to a month now and its driving me insane i can’t sleep at night and its making me crazy i’m so tired but can’t sleep and it’s because of this constant throbbing pain, almost like a small orgasm, tingles and throbbing and it’s all the time no matter if your sitting, standing or laying down and it’s getting to me i’d have tried anything to help make it stop just for a little while so i can sleep i haven’t had a decent nights sleep in almost a month so my best advice to those others like me DRINK ALOT OF CRANBERRY JUICE AND USE AN ICY/HOT PAD it’s used mostly for sore muscle but it tamed my throbbing alittle i still have that sensation but at least now i don’t have it as intense good luck finding some remedies this seems to work for me hope you find what your looking for girls..

July 27, 2008 at 1:02 am
(42) katie says:

hey girls i found out today at the doctor that my problem was a bladder infection which if i came in any later would have progressed into a kidney infection, and it all goes down hill from there. so i went and got medication and omg i slept today for the first time peacefully in a month.. it was such a relief my best advice go to the doctor and tell them everything no matter how embarrassing it may be you’ll be glad you did after the throbbing and pain stop..believe me especially if you’ve had it as long as i have. it’s torture. but no more.

(43) Stephanie says:

Hi, I’m 18 and I’ve been having the same symptoms, been lasting about a year now. I’ve never had sex…so I don’t know what an oragasim feels like, but I’m kind of praying to god it’s not like this. O.o Or maybe it’s because I’m so sick of it. It doesn’t hurt or anything, its just annoying and uncomfortable. However, I have found a way to make it go away after it starts. or just before I feel it coming on. What I do is sit in a really hot bath, and try to relax and not think about it. A bath really seems to help me, it does not cure it, not by a long shot, but it makes it to away, or almost unnoticeable until it does go away. I’ve had all the tests too, and the treatments, nothin helps. Except a bath. A HOT bath, cold water, cool water doesn’t work, Like goings swimming or something. It REALLY helps. So i’d say gp for it. And its great if you can’t sleep because of it too. For me, it doesn’t matter if their’s bubble bath or not, so I’d say if it doesn’t already irritate you, grab a book n sit n a bubble bath and wait it out. usually just 20minutes is enough. but, i must say i love my baths. XD. Its great for stress too, or pain. It’s like my home remedy for just about anything, to a stuffy nose, to this. And all ya need is a bathtub n hot water. ^_^, I hope this helps!

(44) bob says:

I am a guy, so cannot appreciate the intense frustration you must feel with this problem. I hope you can find a solution. I will say, however, that you probably have some insight into the persistent sexual urges felt by young males and the frustration they often (most of the time) feel in not being able to satisfy the urges. When they cannot be satisfied, they are undoubtedly annoying for men. It basically lasts from the time a boy is 12 or so until, well, I’m 51 and it is still very strong and frustrating when not satisfied, but somewhat less urgent than when I was young.

(45) Vicky says:

OK there’s only one way to describe the way this feels: it’s like I put a cellphone on ‘vibrate’ right up next to my vagina. It’s a rhythmic pulsation every second or so. Very strange and rather annoying. Not a strong vibration, but enough to stop me from being able to concentrate on doing anything! Thanks for the other postings (so I know I’m not a lunatic) but the PGAD that Jes described (#18) doesn’t sound like it’s what I’m feeling, nor is the link that Lina kindly posted (#30). Hmmmm …..

(46) Shannon says:

OMG…I just thought I was extremely horny and I cannot believe there are so many people experiencing the same thing! I am 32 and have been experiencing the throbbing/pulsating feeling for about a month now but I am w/ Rachel when I go to bed I have to get up and pee probably 10 times before I can go to sleep. I guess I will go get checked out for a bladder infection. As for the birth control theory, I haven’t used birth control in over 10 years so it’s not the same for everyone. I just don’t have any pain or anything like that to think I had a bladder infection. Anyway..thanks for all the insight and input. Will be checking back to see if anyone else has any more info to offer!

August 18, 2008 at 9:04 am
(47) Amber says:

OMG! I cannot believe that so many individuals have this same thing! I am 39 with tow children and have never had this before. I believe some of you might have different causes than others, as I do not have any pain with mine…just anoying twitching! It usually starts in the morning after going to the bathroom. But will contunue throughout the day. Sometimes it goes away for a little while and comes back again on each trip to the bathroom. Sometimes I feel like I might have burning with it…but can’t really tell as the twitching is so intense! I have tried an over the conter yeast infection cure. But this did not help. I am about to call the doctor and be checked for a UTI to rule it out. I have only had this for about a couple of weeks. I was treated for lime disease over a year ago and have started a couple months ago with some joint pain that I thought might be associated with this. Then today I read this might be also associated with it…nerve damage! Who knows! Hope someone finds a cure for this!

(48) Tammy says:

Hi ladies, I may have some information about this illness. Ask your urologist or gyn to test you for IC or Interstitia Cystitis also known as PBS or Pianful Bladder Syndrome. I know a lot of you do not have pain, but ther are a lot of differnt symptoms. After fighting this for four months I was finally diagnosed with IC/PBS. this illnes is very new to the medical world and there is still a lot of research going on. I had the same symptoms of tingling/ticklish sensation, urgent need to urinate and feeling like I was aroused all the time. No pain, just annoyed. Bladder infection and yeast infection were both ruled out and finally I was diagnosed with IC/PBS. If you google IC/PBS, you will find good information about the disease as well as treatments that are being offered right now. Hope this helps.

August 23, 2008 at 5:48 pm
(49) Tammy says:

Please google IC/PBS. This is probably what you all are suffering from. I was just diagnosed after having the same symptoms as most of you. Tingling/ticklish sensation in vagina, feeling like I was constantly aroused and having to urinate all the time. I know that it is called Painful bladder Syndrome and a lot of us have not experienced much pain, but there are lots of symptoms. Please see your urologist or gyn to be tested. This condition is fairly new to the medical world whic is why it is frequently misdiagnosed as a uti or yeast infection; similar symptoms occur. Good luck and I hope that you can find some relief.

August 24, 2008 at 11:39 pm
(50) Jena says:

it is called Persistent guenital arousal disorder, this is what we have, but there is no cure for it I have had it for three years the only thing that I can say is that nacadics and any kind of nerve pain really makes the feeling go away but then when you get off of them the feeling get worse. so good luck

(51) Crissy says:

YOWZA!!! I have the same thing. No pain, just throbbing…pulsing. Umm….not sure if everyone is feeling the same thing because some of you sound like you are feeling pain?! Definitely go to the doc for pain!!! I’m 29, and at first I thought I was reaching my “sexual prime” but seriously!!?? JEBUS! One thing we have in common is the hypothyroidism. I also thought maybe there was a link to the new meds I started taking for my stomach ulcer…but maybe not. Who knows but I haven’t told anyone for fear of sounding like a horn dog. If you find anything out, let me know!

(52) rozg says:

I just read all the comments relating to what I’ve been feeling for the past 21/2 weeks. I was aroused naturally in the shower, so I did my thing. I found that the next day i was bothered by this weird tingly, numbish after a limb falls asleep and wakes up again feeling. I thought soap must have been on my hand and I’m having a reaction. It hasn’t gone away. I also thought I must be reaching my prime, I’m 29. I thought I would rule out any medication ideas being the link…I don’t take anyhting but asprin, never have. I haven’t been on any birth controll other than condoms since I was 17. The only thing I haven’t gotten tested for yet is a hyperthyroid or some sort of disorder simular. I have an apt. on Oct.1st and will bring up everything I’ve read, and post any info I can find out. Whatever this constant arousel disorder is that keeps getting posted, very well may be, but it has to be caused by somehting if we’ve all just gotton it sudenly.

(54) Lina says:

It’s been almost 4months. I visited my general doctor and OBGYN for every test I could take(pap, urine, ultrasound etc),,,all came out negative. This week, I’m going to visit a Urologist since on top of this pulsating sensation, there’s also some irritation/discomfort in my bladder area now. It hasn’t gotten worse or better. It’s bad enough for me to take several days off from work every month.

My Gyno doc told me to go see a Urologist first before thinking about the possibility of IC/PBS.

http://www.webmd.com says
“The term IC / PBS includes all cases of urinary pain that can’t be attributed to other causes, such as infection or urinary stones”.

Tests you can take:
“urinalysis, urine culture, cystoscopy, biopsy of the bladder wall, distention of the bladder under anesthesia, urine cytology, and laboratory examination of prostate secretions”.

Good luck everyone. I feel your pain :(

(60) Jackie says:

I have the same problem and always have as far as I can remember. I’m 38 and thought it was something all women experienced and was linked to our menstrual cycle. I also thought it may have something to do with being molested since I was 5 from several different men. A feeling that developed that I should not have experienced at such a young age. I would tell my b/f I felt like I was on fire! My vagina pulsates and throbs like it’s desperate to feel release. It’s like constant little mini orgasmic throbs (teases) that build up and frustrate me until I can’t take it anymore and have to do something about it. My b/f thinks I’m a sex addict, but sex is the only thing that will temporarily relieve it. Unfortunately, it comes back a few hours later or the next morning if I’m asleep. I also get up all hours of the night to use the bathroom. My full bladder will wake me from a dead sleep throbbing to feel some release. After some research, I found this problem linked to PGAS (Persistent Genital Arousal Syndrome), which could have been caused by molestation or some other traumatic experience, antidepressants, hormonal changes (menopause or ovulation) a bladder infection or a nerve problem. I also read there is no cure. I noticed when I’m distracted and extremely busy, I don’t even think about it because my mind is on other things. So try and keep yourself occupied as much as possible, find an understanding b/f or husband and “do it” as much as possible. :) Good luck!

I have something similiar. Not exactly the “mini orgasm” like feeling but I have 3 main things. One is severe itching; came on all of a sudden yesterday, bleeding and a feeling like(warning this is gross)some big glop of discharge is way up there and needs to come out. I’m 47, perimenopausal and the night before last I went to the gym and sat in the hottub. That may explain the itching but I doubt the tub was infected b/c the gym is very very clean. How about the bleeding? It’s exactly 2 weeks AFTER my period. I’m tending to think hormonal.

I have been having a lot of trouble for about a year now. It feels like the inside of my vagina has a heart beat and throbbing, sometimes my insides feel like they are falling out of my crouch, sometimes it will feel like I am having a rod shoved straight up in me or a knife stabbing me in the uterus, and to have sex it feels like my insides are going to explode, if I sit down too hard it will do the same thing or if you push on my belly and uterine area from the outside. I chronically itch on the insides of my labia and the more I scratch it the worse it gets. I can’t take it anymore I have been to the ER about it a couple of times and my OBGYN too!!! I asked her if it could be my bladder but she didn’t think it could be. My pap smear came back normal too. I am so lost right now of what it could be!! PLEASE HELP!!!

I am 42 and the symptoms are much worse when I’m sitting down. When I sit on a chair, I feel like I have to constantly keep rocking back and forth, pushing my privates against the chair to relieve the pressure/tingling feeling. Once I sit down, it becomes a compulsion and I have a hard time stopping/getting up. I have never been a horny person or overly sexual, so this is freaking me out. I can’t talk to anyone about this, for fear of sounding like a nymphomaniac. I really hate this and it has become a huge disruption to my life. Anyone else with same symptoms (sitting down, etc?) thanks, carmen

Laides, I feel your pain, I am a 20 yr old with normal periods and have been on birth control for the last 3 yrs, same brand and everything, and have never ever experienced something like this before. i feel it right inside my vagina not to the left or right but right in the very middle, and its more annoying than painful. i am a lot hornier than usual and my fiancee doesn’t seem to mind except for im in constant agony. i’ve also suffered from symptoms of a urinary tract infection. so i figured that had something to do with it. and i’ve been drinking plenty of cranberry juice for the past 24 hours but it doesn’t seem to help. i’ve even tried taking midol, it helped for about an hour until i had to go to the bathroom again then it acts like it just starts all over again. i too have lost sleep and right now where i am it is 4:37 in the morning. i knew i had to find something to do about this. i’ve thought about going to the doctor but i have no insurance. i’ve been in pain for about 4-5 days now and i wish that it would just go away. just like whats already been said it doesn’t matter whether you are sitting, standing, or lying down it just absolutely will not stop for nothing. i find myself looking like a little kid who has to go the the restroom but has to hold it in order to kinda subside the pain. if anyone has any information please let us know. thank you Rachel

Hello my dear sisters, I also have ahd these symptoms of continous throbbing/pulsating vibration in my vagina. Ladies – I have had these symptoms for 2 1/2 years (I’m 34), been to a specialist and everything. I think it’s due to HPV as I contracted that 4 years ago..its feels like a crawling/nagging feeling inside. At first I thought it was thrush. Having sex is not a problem but makes the symptoms worse for a while after…I just think it’s a nerve thing myself and nothing much to worry about. There is also something called vulvodinia – check it out. Think it’s just one of those things and one has to live with it.

(83) Natasha says:

Ladies, am back I have just researched a bit about Coffee and Tea which both contain caffeine (one more than the other). I read a little more about caffeine and it contains a product called Theobromine which is a vasodilattor, which means dialting the blood vessels. This chemical is used to make viagra which is used to increase blood flow to the penis for men. Ok. When I had these symptoms I felt a congestion inside my vagina like a nerve/vein was dilated and even some of the doctors confirm that it might be a dilated vein(increased blood flow) in the other posts I read over the internet. I am convinced it might be these 2 substances because I stopped drinking tea and coffee and taking anything containing soya on my 3rd and 4th day of having these aches plus the antidepressant ampytriline and the constant aching stopped. So if you can start taking note on these 2 substances and see if you get any positive results. Please update us if you do see any difference so other people may also get assistance to warding the symptoms away. Keeping praying bcoz God is the one and only cure,

(85) Lu says:

I have the exact same feelings. It started around the end of November 2008 a few days after my period. I was so stressed, I waited a few days before I searched frantically on the net for some hope and came across this Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS) and I started to panic, literally hysterical crying before I confessed all to my mum. As an ex-health visitor she’s very understanding and wanted to get me examined but I wanted to wait a few more days to see what happens. About a week later it stopped and I was so so so happy! I didn’t see the doctor.
But now it returned nearly a week ago, again a few days after my period and I’m afraid again, I promised myself I won’t tell mum until Tuesday as I’m hoping it might go before then. It wasn’t as bad as the first time
I’m 19 years old and a virgin, I’m really really scared and I NEED a cure! I’m already suffering with depression and this just makes me feel worse.
I’m afraid it will keep coming back again and again for years :’-(
What shall we do? Is there any hope?

So I woke up in the middle of the night with this pulsating, throbbing sensation and so I immediately started to masterbate, due to the fact that I just thought I was aroused. Which was very disturbing to me. My husband is deployed and in two weeks i’m having surgery.I have endometeoisis, hyperthyroidism and polycistic something or the other. I wondered if this was due to something with my menstral period and hormones. I did get immediate release. I felt like a perv because I don’t believe i’ve ever had a orgasm and I actually am afraid i might be infertile. So call me bazzare when I was excited that this happend because i thought it was an orgasim. Definately going to ask the OBGYN about. It and also look into some of the suggestions of PGAD (persistant genital arousal disorder)and see what the causes are. Thanks Ladies.

Oh thank God! I thought I was losing it! Im 42, never been on the pill, no discharge, no pain and nothing else out of the ordinary except im also feeling the tingling in my hands and feet. It feels like a tiny vibrator is attached to my clitorus and upper vaginal area just humming away with NO OFF SWITCH making me nuts! Any friction (even simple walking) makes me feel like im gonna orgasm right then and there! Pretty embarassing when shopping at Target! LOL! Even wiping after I urinate is enough to set me off! I have a gut feeling this has to do with nerves. I think we should all list any and all medications were taking (if any) and see if any match up? I know this tingling started soon after my doctor perscribed (SEROQUEL 50mg.)for insomnia. I also take plain over-the-counter sleep aid (DIPHENHYDRAMINE, 50mg.) I did read that DIPHENHYDRAMINE can cause “tingling,” but this is RIDICULOUS! Start listing your meds ladies. Lets try and fix this!

I also experienced the same thing and for bout two days. A tingling sensation and then the urge to urinate every 15 minutes. I thought it was just because it was after my cycle but it was something that i never experienced ever. i have only ever had my husband for a partner so I was wondering what the hell was happening.

Candid V Gel for broad spectrum fungicide and trichomonacide to be applied at night and an antibiotic called TINIMA 300 twice a day – ingredients being tinidazole IP 300 mg, excipients q.s.and CETZINE once at night ingredients being cetzine hydrocholoride BP 10 mg.

The gynac said it was a bacterial infection and advised me to check the water that we used as the water for the flush and the small hand shower to wash your bottom came from the same source, which was recycled water. I guess recycled is ok for the flush but not for washing your privates. She said these things happen in ones coital life. she said there was liquid along the walls that had collected.

Over night i felt better. she has kept the antibiotics up for the 5 days. So i hope many of you ladies will benefit from this.

Okay, I am 20 years old and this has been going on for me for about 6 years. It is a tingling sensation that just goes on and on. I have tried everything to make it go away but nothing works for very long. The hot bath helps for one day but the next time I go to the bathroom it starts up again. The tingling gets so bad sometimes that I start to sweat. The only thing I find to make it feel alittle better is to take Azo. I know it is not any type of infection because I have been tested for them when the tingling first started. I also find that if I apply pressure to that area then the tingling sensation gets a little less intense. It is driving me crazy and I would really like to know what the hell is going on. This happens about 4 or 5 times a year. After a couple of days it just goes away. It makes standing around at a job for 8 hours pretty miserable. When I lay down to go to sleep that is when it gets really bad. Sometimes when I have sex it goes away for a few hours but I can’t have sex all day so I need a real treatment. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

(103) Ashley says:

I think it’s herpes. It’d explain why no one posts back after they go to the doctor. My symptoms started after I started dating a guy with HSV-2. I just checked the symptoms for hypothyroidism and a lot seem to fit (i.e. abnormal menstrual cycle, constantly cold, memory loss, etc.). So maybe a combination of hypothyroidism and herpes? Also, don’t count yourself out for herpes just because you don’t have any skin lesions. It’s not uncommon for the rash to be very subtle (resembling an ingrown hair or pimple) or it may even be sub-dermal. I’m making an appointment with my gyno tomorrow because it’s getting rather ridiculous, so I’ll let y’all know what she has to say about it. Also, I experience no pain with urination, and I’m very aware of what a UTI feels like, so I doubt it’s that. I’m taking birth control–the generic form of Yaz–and I was molested as a kid, but I highly doubt that has anything to do with it. Come to think of it, I recently consumed quite a bit of Keva and it seemed to accentuate the sensation. Gotta admit though, it does make orgasms amazing. I’ll keep you guys updated.

(104) ashley says:

ladies, i’ve left two previous comments, (88 and 94)two weeks after my last comment the tingling pulsating sensation has been accompanied by guess what? none other than….pain. Extreme excruciating pain. I went to my family doctor, then the hospital who then sent me to a urologist. If you’ll look above to num. 48 and 49 by Tammy you’ll see mentioned IC, now when I first read this I automatically dismissed it thinking these are not my symptoms this doesn’t pertain to me. I am not in pain so how could I have painful bladder syndrome? Well let me remind you from Sept08 to Feb09 i never had pain just tingling throbbing and running to the bathroom. Beginning of March the pain started, so therefore the tingling throbbing onset could be the first signs. I still get the tingling and throbbing but also have pain neither of which happens at the same time. I was told today I have IC. I would recommend that if your problem bothers you a lot pain or no pain you should see a Urologist, I seen my ob/gyn for 6 months with no resolution I walked into a urologist and out with a solution today. Also DON’T think cranberry juice will help, i just found out today there are things that can trigger symptoms and one happens to be cranberry juice. If you have been tested for uti’s bladder infections and all other things have been ruled out consider thinking about what I have mentioned. Because IC is relatively new, there are many undiagnosed symptoms, which could be why we read about this and feel we don’t have it. Hope I helped someone will k.i.t. with details also to the girl above also named Ashley, you might have herpes but we don’t our problems are all unique so remember if your gyno can’t solve it try your urologist just because it doesn’t seem like a urinary problem doesn’t mean it isn’t gynos specialize in vaginal work so they might not be able to solve your problem because they don’t know how.

I have been having weird sensations as well. It almost feels like intercourse, but there is no physical stimulation. It is worse when I am trying to fall asleep. It starts as a light deep pulsing. Then a swirling motion. Then it goes into a push/pull movement, maybe like a thrusting back/forth sensation. It completely freaks and weirds me out! I don’t know if it’s muscle spasms, blood flow, or a nerve thing maybe. Or maybe I am being haunted! lol I don’t know, but I wish it would go away. It is an unwanted feeling whatever it is. There is no pain at all, but it does give me a bit of anxiety because I can’t figure it out. I’m not panicky or anything, just concerned I guess. I tried to concentrate on my heartbeat, but it’s not in any rhythmic pattern to that. It’s just doing it’s own thing down there! I am 30yo, I don’t have children, and am not sexually active. Anyone have any more thoughts on this? Or maybe some helpful links? If it’s this PGAD/PSAS syndrome wouldn’t it be happening more than just at night? Or maybe I only notice it when I’m relaxed? I don’t think it’s IC because I don’t have any problems with my bladder or excessive runs to the bathroom.

Reading that last post seems so silly now, but I did have a urinary tract infection – so much for thinking no probs with bladder. The uro I saw said there was quite a bit of swelling (probably the culprit), and some blood. When he told me that, I neglected to tell him of the symptoms I posted here. A bit embarrassing to say the least! Seem to be clear of infection now and no more weirdness. Hope you girls find out what’s going on with you, too. Best of luck to you!

(107) Sarah says:

There seems to be two (or maybe more)types of throbbing/pulsing/tingling that people are experiencing here. I started to get this pulsing/tingling about 5 weeks ago, I felt it in the vaginal wall, right near the opening but it did not feel like a mini orgasm like some have commented and did not make me horny in the slightest! I just found it very annoying and worrying. I visited this site at the time and just hoped it would go away. Then, about 2 weeks ago, I had the most horrendous pain whilst urinating, I went to the doctor who diagnosed cystitis and prescribed antibiotics. They, with a truck load of cranberry juice got rid of the problem within a few days. The tingling hung around for a couple of week afterwards but now appears to have gone. Though you may have no pain at the moment, it could just be the onset of Cystitis.

I have been treated for everything possibile just in case it was an STD but every single one of my tests came back negative. I am so glad that I’m not the only one experiencing this. I will be willing to participate in a research study if docs could just find the source & the cure. I’m FED UP with this thing. I don’t even enjoy sex anymore.

Also this is only affecting the left side of my vagina & rectum. I really think it had something to do with a colposcopy & biopsy(which came back normal) that I got in Dec 07. Because the pain started in Feb of 08 & I have been back & fourth to the OB/GYN with these complaints. I think they damaged something when they took the biopsy(which was also in the left side of my vagina). I’m just losing hope.

(113) SMFL says:

THANK GOD I FOUND THIS SITE. I have been trying to figure out what this is for YEARS. I am 28 years old and this has been reoccurring since GRADE SCHOOL. When it gets so bad that I can no longer sit still (I find myself grinding into my chair), I go to the bathroom and apply pressure to my clitoris. It’s the ONLY thing that seems to alleviate it (for a short while). Every time I’m in the bathroom, I flash back to my FIRST GRADE CLASSROOM BATHROOM, where I sat for almost 30 min. one time after I rushed through a test because it was bothering me so bad.

I read a few things about hypothyroidism and I’ve been getting tests done to see if I have it or not. I’ve been heavy all of my life, and if I did have an under active thyroid as a child, this might explain why this vaginal tingling has been going on since then. I went for an ultrasound of the thyroid Monday and I’m waiting for the dr. to call me. I think I’m going to call her now and tell her about this and see if that’s something.

I am 23 years old and I just wnet to my Dr. and she said it has a direct correlation with crohn’s disease, ulcerative Colitis, Irritable bowel syndrome, and any other problem that inflame’s the colon. Because of the colon being inflamed it stimulates the clit area and creates the problem we all complain about. Also, it’s auto immune so the more stress on your body the worse the problem. Good luck all.

(115) wit says:

Hey gals, I have read your posts and I just wanted to throw my condition out here for yall, incase it matches you- I have Vulvar Vestibulitis. Vestibulitis is more common in men, but 10% of women have it. You have “vestibule glands” on either side of your vagina, and with this condition, they become swollen and inflamed and cause pain. My sensation has felt as if my vagina fell asleep- dull, achy pain that just throbs and doesn’t stop. If you read about the conditon, experts have explained that it cause you to be unable to engage in sex- which is the opposit for me, so don’t discount this theory once you research it. My condition causes pain AFTER sex, but it happens all the time, randomly throughout the day, and it hurts as if I have to have sex. This is why I am posting now; yall sound like some of my symptons, but I can tell you this: my ob/gyn did not believe me when I came in and told her I had the symptoms of vulvar vestibulitis. She then proceeded to do an internal exam where she pushed on either side of my vagina and I screamed out in agony. She has never seen anyone with the condition. There is a Private Practice episode about it; addison gave the girl lidocain injections and it relieved her problems. My dr was an idiot, and gave me external lidocain cream- which I thought wtf am I supposed to do with this? Rub it on my abdomen? Anywooooo, look it up, and note not all ur symptoms may match up, but yall def sound like u have it. I had just had my daughter when I developed it. I described it as feeling like I was needing to “push” out another baby. And also, months later, I’ve decided it is most common to the “black Snake Moan” movie- where my vag just needs release and I have GOT to have sex. Masterbation wouldn’t be enough. But, there is a remedy and it is a condition that is treatable. Lidocain Injections will numb the vestibule glands and I believe I was taking amitriptaline for a lil while for nerve pain. Hope it helps!

Hi:

I’ve been having the same problem for a few days now and saw my doctor right away. Has anyone recently tapered off of Lexapro or other anti-depressants? There may be a link to Persistant Sexual arousal disorder and having been on anti-dpressants. Parts of the brain get over stimulated and send signals to create arousal feelings. Currently, I am perscribed numbing agents to stop the constant feeling and more SSRI’s. Seems to be helping, but if it comes back I’m going to a specialist. Trust me….I understand! I am a teacher and wanted to jump out of my skin while trying to get through the work day.

Wow, I am so glad I found this. This has been driving me insane! It started about two weeks ago. At first, I though I was horny until I noticed the dull “throbbing” on both sides of my vagina. My boyfriend and I were enjoying this for awhile, but now it’s just annoying. It doesn’t really cause me any pain, in fact sometimes it feels nice. But, the constant pulsing is getting old…

This week I’m going to start downing a lot of water in case it’s dehydration (which can mess with your muscles anyway). I’m 24 and have NOT been diagnosed with hypothyroid.

I’ve been having a tingling feeling on the outer part of my vagina for almost a year now. It almost feels like when you get a chill down your spine (sort of ticklish)or when you are aroused (even though I am not aroused when this happens). Although it doesn’t hurt this is seriously getting annoying because it happens all the time everyday and it doesn’t matter what I am doing. It mostly happens when I am still…sitting, standing, laying down watching tv and lasts for anywhere between 5 seconds and 15 seconds. I do have Thyroiditis, Hypothyroid, and Sciatica so I am wondering if these diseases could be causing it. I have told my Dr about it but she didn’t seem overly concerned and just told me to keep watching for any changes.

I too am amazed to hear of all these women with this problem. I never heard of anyone experiencing this. It started with me about a month ago and lasted for almost 3 weeks. It was driving me crazy. I would have to agree with the one person saying it is like a rythmic palsating feeling. I was already at the time going to the doctors for problems bleeding. Of which I found that I have to have a hysterectomy. I had every test imaginable. I have no diseases so I know it’s not caused by that. I tried to explain to my doctor. He acted like he never heard of it before. But he did tell me that it could of been gastinal. I said, down there!?! He said yes we can have gastinal problems way inside the vagina. Sounded crazy to me… But for that three weeks I thought it was going to drive me nearly insane! It stop on it’s own. Never found out what it was.

As a follow up to my post – mine has gone away. I am fearing that it may return…

After reading an earlier post about this site (www.twshf.org/anotherStory.html) and my own personal experiences, I think this is a nerve problem. I work in customer service (a desk job) and I sit in a crappy chair that isn’t meant for an 8 hour work day. Fearing I was pinching a nerve, I switched out my computer chair. It’s gone away and I think that helped.

If you are doing something that could be pinching a nerve, maybe that’s it. I don’t know if this advice will be helpful to anyone, especially those who have had this for a long time. But, it’s at least something to try.

I’m really happy to see that other people are, at least in one way or another, experiencing the same problems I am.
For starters: 25, no STD’s, no kids, no hyperthyroidism, no meds outside of daily birth-control
For several weeks now I have had an EXTREMELY annoying tingling sensation in both the left inside vaginal wall and in my rectum. Along with that, not thinking they could be related, for several months now I have had increasing urgent trips to the bath room. ANNOYING as hell. Swear to god, just went to the bathroom less than 5 mins ago occasionally and right back in I go.
Mind you, I DO NOT have pain of any kind. Nor does this tingling sensation make me aroused in any shape or form. It is just straight up annoying. Laying, sitting, standing…it doesn’t matter.
Now, I know that I do not have a UTI or yeast infection or any of that because I do have PCOS and have had problems with those for a good chunk of my life now. Those are not what this is!! (for me that is)
Anyway, I do NOT currently have medical insurance and can’t afford to go to the dr. So…like everyone else, internet here I come. Days of searching and NOTHING! I’m hoping what I’ve read on here is correct with the possibility of IC. Now with the no pain issue…some say yes and some say no. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get med insurance soon and figure out what’s going on.
I’ve been a medical test dummy since I was 14 and I really don’t want to be playing games all over again.

You should look up white knuckle syndrome. Men get the similar pulsating and a feeling of vibrating from using power tools. It ruptures the blood vessels and damages the nerves. I would suggest that you may be using a vibrator too much and you have done the same kind of damage.

Hi, Ive been reading all your comments because I too was having the same problems, firstly you need to go and see your doctor and explain to him/her whats happening. In my case I am having the menopause so my hormones where getting imbalanced, my doctor has put me onto HRT and thankfully it has stopped all those weird and unnatural feelings, for those who are teenagers I would hazard a guess that you will be put onto the pill, this will eleviate any imbalances caused by mother nature. I visited the doctor who said it might be VULVODYNIA ladies. Look into this as my symptoms were exactly what it is. There are no tests that prove you have got this but nothing else is wrong as tests have been done etc so this is the only solution and there is an anti-depressant to try to help it!Go to the doctors about it!

I think you should take the time to read some literature on female ejaculation. There is research out there which supports that the tingling, pulsating and feeling of needing to unrinate is a direct symptom of the need for the g-spot to experience an orgasm and for the glands associated with female ejaculation to have a release. Most women who have never cultivated the fact they are female ejaculators typically supress it and never really experience a full release. Best of Luck!

I have the throbbing in my Vagina also. Im 29, but it only happens after sex. I have read that this is normal if your partner is pounding away, or if you are having ruff sex. If you dont use enough lubricant it causes your vagina to pulsate or throb for a day or two, but then it should go away. It also can be a sign of a yeast infection. Most of the time this happens after sex. I havent had sex in several months so i was not used to anyone being inside my vagina, and now its sensitive. I honeslty hate the feeling, but I guess when i get in a steady relationship it will not be a constant problem, and my body will adjust.

There is a Yahoo group for women that suffer with PGAD/PSAS. You will find hundreds of women on here who suffer as we do. I’ve had this since I was a child and in my 50s now. Dr.s doing research are finding it is like RLS but of the genitals. I told my Dr. I had RLS and he prescribed me the medication. But now I have it during the day and the meds make me sleepy so can’t take it. I do take it before I get on a plane or a long car ride. Last night was having dinner with friends and had to get up and leave so I could walk. Can’t go to movies anymore. It has been hell the last five yrs. It is now recognized as a real medical condition YEAH!! but still no cure…sometimes I just want my clitoris removed but will that help? Not even sure if that is where the sensations are coming from.

Just this past weekend I started to have a vaginal tingling, itching sensation. It is VERY similar to what a lot you all have mentioned; tingling, comes and goes, no pain, etc. It was driving me nuts, to the point that it was affecting my sleep when I woke up at 3am to it and wasn’t able to sleep for an hour. I have had a cystitis years ago and this is nothing like it. There is NO pain, just a weird tingling sensation almost like arousal. No back pain, no smell, no need to pee, etc. Finally I just got up and drove over to the Pharmacy hoping to find an over the counter solution. I was about to buy a yeast infection medication when I saw my answer. An anti-itch creme. I thought this is too simple. But as I read what it treated it hit me: Antibiotics. Just last week I started taking an antibiotic for a Staph infection I somehow managed to get in my left armpit. The medication is meant to treat fungus infections since thats what a Staph infection is. My guess is that the medication started to affect the PH balance in my vagina. I bought the anti-itch creme and applied it as soon as I got home. So far its working. I don’t know if this will help anyone else, but your conditions could just be a simple PH balance problem. In any case here is a link to the drug information of the brand I bought. I hope it helps! http://www.drugs.com/mtm/vagisil-feminine-cream.html

I too am having the fluttery tinglies…..I read someones post on here saying it might be connected with herpes and/or a yeast infection. I am 23 almost 24 years old, and have been recently diagnosed with genital herpes…… and there is no telling how long i have had it but my first outbreak caught my attention and i went and got checked. everyone says its not the end of the world, but right now im having a really hard time coping with it and i still have yet to tell my boyfriend. the tingling started about a week after i found out. its really bothersome and i am praying its not another outbreak dropping in to say hi… but girls even if you dont have symptoms you can still get tested for it but you have to have a blood test. and sometimes girls and guys will find a pimple or ingrown hair and think its herpes and if the doctor swaps an infected pimple or ingrown hair and sends that off to get tested it will come back negative even if you have herpes. so all im saying is if you have a choice get the blood test its more accurate. Good luck!

Hey gals, I’m 20 and have a very similar feeling, though mine feels like it comes from the urethra. I’ll get it for days after masturbation (not sexually active). It throbs as if I need to masturbate, but if I’m able to hold off for a few days, it’ll get much better. I feel like I need to urinate all the time, and when I urinate, it becomes worse as well. The throbbing drives me nuts!

I’m seeing both a urologist and a gynecologist.

The gynecologist has diagnosed me with Vulvodynia and Vulvar Vestibulitis. This was after a very painful q-tip test. Unfortunately there is no ‘for sure to work’ treatments with this, but it can be managed. I was given a steroid cream to try, and told that if that does nothing, they can actually try pelvic floor therapy. I was also given an Elival prescription, but told not to fill it until I talk to my urologist.

Now I’m also seeing a urologist due to the urination aspect, and the fact that this, believe or not, feels like it comes from the urethra. I have a cystoscopy and possible dilation scheduled for November. He believes this is either urethritis, and if not that, Interstitial Cystitis (as one woman here already mentioned!)

I have no idea if I have two things going on, or this is all the Vulvar Vestibulitis, but I know it’s very worrisome and annoying. This is the last type of thing you want to see a doctor for, but it brings hope when they give names of what they think it might be, and what might make it better. Please ladies, see your doctors. It’ll get better. :)

If you want my email, let me know. It always helps to talk with someone who knows the annoyance.

I am 24 married with 2 kids. I have had this problem 4 a while. Throbbing pulsating, constant arousal of my clit?. It is causing me distress because it happens at inappropriate times, it made me overthink a lot and second quess myself like am I turned on by this person (who ever I am looking at or with) and when around my kids and other kids I am so uncomfortable and I know its causing me to withdraw from my kids, I just don’t know what to do. I orgasm with sex sometimes I cannot though, but it always comes right back. I am wondering if its linked to a bladder problem? When I have to pee really bad it’s a kinda similar feeling just further up there and warming inside, I get releief when I peebut sometimes I am trhobing while I pee and it doesn’t help, I have frequent urination also I pee sometimes when I really let go and have a good orgasm. Is this normal or related? Anyone else? I am not on any pills at this time but I was on topomax and had horrible side effects I have not been the same since, I feel like it made me OCD, (intrusive thoughts) I took paxil after that to help control them wich it did but I gained weight so I came off it. I have tried lots of depression/mood medicines for depression and anxiety and possible bipolar one person thought I may be bipolar allt eh rest thought bad depression. I am still depressed I just am so done with meds I am scared to try new ones because of what topomax did to me mentally. Its been a year and I am still suffering I believe its from topomax that I have anxiety and OCD disturbing/sexual unwanted thoughts.

I may have an answer for some of you. specifically to the ones who only feel this on one side. Or to those who also have tightening of buttocks. It could quite possibly be that you have a disc in your lumbar spine that is rupturing or herniating and the nerves in that general area are being compressed or mashed so to speak. I would recommend you all to ask your doctors to get an MRI, because x-rays don’t show up soft tissue such as disc. An MRI will show if you have a ruptured disc. I have had this problem before and I have been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and only my left side of my vagina was affected. I do have hyperthyroidism too, but the tyroid problems come from autoimmune diseases. Look it up ladies, autoimmune diseases have many symtoms. You don’t have this vaginal problem because of thyroid problems. Another place you can find answers is at the CES website. Cauda Equina Syndrome is the nerves that are around the lumbar and sacral spine. I have had 4 back surgeries to date and possibly face many more. This may not be the answer for all of you but after reading all the comments, I am pretty sure it is the answer for a majority. Also check out CESSG. This site has lots of answers. I really am sorry you all have not found answers yet, but keep looking because you are your best health advocate. Many prayers.

I’m Emily, 30 and I love this earlier post…

Ok I posted in the past and ladys we have PGAD (persistant genital arousal disorder). It was first reconized as an actual medical disorder in 2001. Alot of doctors havent even heard of it yet. ladys there is also a support group for this.!

You can call it a persistent genital arousal disorder if you like, and i love the idea of support groups. All of us, sitting in our chairs, trying not to grind our hot, throbbing vaginas into them, while we all talk about our hot throbbing vaginas with each other, and talk about how we’re all trying not to grind them into our chairs.

Oh GOD!!!

This is exactly how i experienced my first ever lesbian group sex! OH GOD!!! All women get it, it’s normal, and it feels so good once all our vaginas are persistently aroused in the same room together!

Please GOD, Set Up Those Support Groups Now!

I promise you girls, the only thing which eases it is each other. Feels so good to have it eased to by each other!

Do It! Do it! Do it!
