Clomid Conception

By August 16, 2003

Follow me on:

Women's Health Forums: Looking to talk with anyone who is currently on a clomid regimen. I conceived my first child after one cyle of Clomid. I had been trying for two years prior to that. I now have been trying for almost one year to conceive my second child. I start my clomid the end of August. Anybody out there have any success stories or are currently on a clomid regimen or about to begin?

(2) Amanda says:

I have been on Clomid for two cycles now. I am taking 100mg, begining day one through day five. I have blood drawn on day three, an ultrasound on day three and then a second blood draw on day 21. Blood draws are monitoring Progesterone. Last month no sucess, severe pain with ovulation, hot flashes, moodiness and I wake up a lot during the night. This month I ovulated and now am two days late in receiving my period, but home pregnancy tests come back negative. As far as having sex, we were told to abstain on day 10/11 (depending on your lutel phase), use fertility strips days 11-15. Use the strips twice daily: for example 8am and 8pm to keep an accurate time frame as to when you surged. Then have sex twice within 24 hrs of your surge. This is what we have been told. No sucess last month. I guess we will see for this month. Don’t be afraid to ask your Dr/Specialist any questions. They have heard them all:) Good luck and God Bless.

I just took my first cycle of clomid. No serious side effects except my cervical fluid was constantly sticky/hostile. Although I ovulated it makes no sense for me to continue taking clomid if it’s going to make a hostile environment for the sperm. i would be very surprised if I am pregnant. Please read Fertility Awareness book…I am 36 and I just read it and learned so much about my body.
Good luck!

Hi there, I was put on Clomid due to having PCOS and Endo. This was the cause for me not falling pregnant, I was told to take Clomid ( 1 x 50mg tablet each ) on day 5,6,7,8, & 9. Have intercourse on day 10, 12, 14 & 16, than a blood test on day 21 to check if I had ovulated. One the first month I did ovulate but did no fall pregnant, we repeated the above on the following month and did fall pregnant, We now have a 3 year old beautiful boy. We have been trying to concieve naturally for the last 12 months but it just didnt happen, I have now just started Clomid again as per my previous use and hopefully it will work, Just keep in mind the when you get your ovulation results dont get to excited if its a high reading, my first month was really high and I didnt fall in, my second month wasnt very high and they said not to get my hopes up… and that was the month that we conceived. I did know when I was ovulating as I felt slight period like pains on the side that I was releasing my eggs, no real mood swings or bad side effects.Good luck and I hope that you are blessed with a little bundle of joy

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost three years now…I have had every infertility test under the sun ran with no answer as to why I haven’t fallen pregnant. I recently switched doctors and they have me on my first cycle of Clomid. I had blood drawn on day3 then started clomid on 5-9 then had intercourse day 10-21 on day 21 they took blood again… today is day 22 and I am still waiting to hear back. I took a few ovulation tests because I was experiencing awful right abo pain…they all came back negative. So I don’t know yet if I did infact ovulate this cycle. I am anxious to get checked out for endometreosis as it runs in my family and I have all of the symptoms…my new doc isn’t interested in doing a laproscopy she just wants me to concieve. I am still experiencing really strong pains in my abo…they want to do an unltra sound to see if they’ve hyperstimulated my ovaries. But I’m thinking it’s just a bladder infection because I’ve had them before! I will pray for all of you to get pregnant! Please say a little prayer for me! As I AM desperate to start a family with the love of my life!!!

(19) Chance says:

hi everyone,
My name is chance and i’m 25 years old. I have been trying to concieve a child for almost 2 yrs now.My PCP sent me to a fertilty specialist. The Dr. had me take some test with all came back good. the only problem was since i didn’t get my period regularly she said i have what are called anovulatory periods which means i don’t ovulate. she started me on clomid (50mg. my period started on june 20th-27th. My Dr. has also concieved using these same pills. I started clomid on the 25th-29th. From the 30th to july 2nd she said to do nothing. she told me to have sex every other day starting on the 3rd of july ending on the 13th.. on the 14th i had to go and have blood drawn. i went to see my doctor on the 23rd and to my disappointment there was no ovulation so i’m not pregnant. she up my dosage to 100mg to take the same way when my menstual started. i was afraid that it would be another couple of months since my period is irregular coming every 4-5mths, so she gave me provera to take 1 tab a day for ten days if my period didn’t come by the following week. to my surprise my period showed up on its own on july 27th.. i’m eager to see where these pills will lead me. she said 3rd times usually the charm sometimes the second. i hope that’s the case because i really want a child and i can’t afford other exsensive treatment such as IVF which i read can cost anywhere between $10,000-$12,000.

(20) Leah says:

Sometimes I feel really dumb talking on these things but most of the time I just really have no one else to talk to. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost a year now. We were lucky last October and conceived naturally and then the end of January this year I had my second miscarriage (the first was two years ago September). They said the fetus died at about 8 weeks so if you do the math I carried the baby for almost another month after it had died. I was very depressed and very angry because after the miscarraige my doctor said he would look into it which just meant he would biopsy the fetus to see if there was something wrong with it. So naturally I switched to a different doctor, who since April, has diognosed me with homozygous mthfr defciency and pcos. The amount of pills she has me taking every day has reached an alltime peak and although most are vitamins and other hormones my body should produce it kind of freaks me out. I will begin taking clomid the next cycle along with steroids, progesterone, and some other kind of hormone, all that need to be taken at different times of the month, still on top of everything else i am taking. We have a daughter who is 6, we had her when we were both very young and the only complications were with her parents being young and stupid. Now that we are adults and are ready to have a child again it seems like my body has just said no. I know clomid can work a friend of mine just conceived using it, but there is only a six month time table in which you are allowed to use it. How do you keep up hope?

(21) Jessica says:

I start taking my 6th cycle of clomid tomorrow. I started at 100 for 3 months and now 150 for 3 months. Some months it has worked good and some months it has hardly worked at all. I used to stress alot about trying so hard to get pregnant, I’ve had one miscarriage 2 years ago. We havn’t been able to get pregnant since. Don’t give up on it though, I almost called it quits last month. My sister conceived on cycle 3 of 100mg. And she’s due at the end of November. So when God decides it’s time, he will bless everyone!

hi, i started my first round of clomid between 6-10 of august. i did my charting on “fertilityfriend.com and it looks like i ovulated on my first round, but my husband and i were unable to have sex around that time due to a funeral. i want to know, do i have to continue taking clomid every month to ovulate?

September 3, 2008 at 12:02 am
(24) Jennifer says:

The clomid can be taken on days 3-7 or 5-9. Both are recommended. Go by what your doc said. As far as the sex thing, I was told the last pill or last day skip sex. Then the very next day start having sex every other day. Example if you do 5-9 you would start on day 10,12,14,16,18. Or if you do 3-7 you would go day 8,10,12,14,16.

I have a fertility monitor that is showing I’m ovulating ok every month but since we have tried for over two years now to become pregnant again my doctor said they are going to treat me with Clomid anyway. Hi, girls!

I’m 24 years old and my husband and I have been TTC for about a year and a half… we would go to doctors and couldn’t find anything wrong w/me, and my husband had a sperm count and everything was fine. A couple of months ago, our doctor referred us to a specialist and now I’m about to start clomid (50mg/5days) in a couple of days! I’ve heard that it takes from 4-6 months for it to work… is there a chance that it takes less than 4 months? For those who have taken it, does it really work, it’s just that I’m worried that it won’t work and I don’t want to get my hopes up. It’s been really frustruating, and I’ve been praying so much for this baby! I just hope that clomid works for me :> thanks, and God bless you all, I will keep you all in my prayers, so God can bless you w/beautiful healthy babies :>

Good luck to everyone x

Well I am on my 3rd cycle of clomid and just did 10 days of progesterone. I go back on October 10th for my 21 day progesterone check. This will be the last month we can try for 6 months at least if not longer because hubby is deploying. Luckily we have 2 little boys ages 10 and 7 and I conceived the 7 year old with clomid on first try so gets frustrating. We were hoping for one more child, maybe a girl, but I don’t care as long as healthy. I just turned 36 yesterday and that was our goal to be pregnant by. Well good luck all and will keep all posted.

I am currently on my first cycle with clomid. My Dr. has had many of her patients conceive with this medication so I’m hopeful it will work for me as well. My directions were to take the clomid on day 5-9 of your cycle and have intercourse every other day from day 5 for 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. So far I haven’t really experienced any unusual symptoms. I did however experience a little blood the day after starting the clomid along with extreme tenderness in my lower abdomen. I can only assume it is normal due to the ovulation brought on by the meds. I go for my blood test in just a lil’ over 2 weeks. I’m nervous, scared, and excited – - and i’m hoping and praying to God for a blessing!!!! Best of luck to you guys!!!

(36) Sarah says:

Hi to everyone. I have had PCOS since I was 20. I am now 32 and ttc for the first time. My Md ran numerous blood tests to check all my hormone levels first. He put me on yaz for 4 months to shrink my ovaries down from the cysts. I am now off of the yaz and I am taking progesterone cream once a day for 2 weeks then 2 times a day until my cycle. Next month after my cycle starts I start with the progesterone once a day for 14 days and on days 5-9(which day five is considered the 5th day after the first day of my period)I start the yaz from day 5-9. My doctor told me to get a calendar and write at the bottom the time of my cycle how much progeserone to take the days on clomid and then use the ovulation prodictor kits starting day 12 after my cycle. Continue to use with the mornings first urine until you ovulate. THen he said have sex that day and the next and the rest is just fun. I hope this makes sense. The calendar i printed a blank one from microsoft word and i am keeping track on that otherwise I would be really confused. I wish everyone luck on there baby journey!

In 2006-2007 I took Clomid and had several inseminations. After many tries and lots of let down I finally got pregnant at the end of August. I bled almost the whole time and sadly I miscarried in November right before Thanksgiving. This year, I tried a new doctor (not an infertility doctor, but an OB/GYN). My menstrual cycle was messed up. My doctor put me on Metphormin (for blood sugar) I am not a diabetic but she said it was slightly high and this should regulate my cycle. So I did as she said, as soon as I got my period (which was the next month) I did one cycle of Clomid. My husband and I had intercourse every other day for almost a month (no ovulation checkers or anything). Then i was pregnant!! One try!! It was pregnant!! I am 10wks, hopefully history won’t repeat itself!!

Hi, my name is Jamie. I have two great children, both boys. They are three and five. We conceived naturally with my first and with my second we strugled a little but after 1year we were pregnant. My doctor had just gave me a script for clomid and I found out the day I went to pick it up that I was pregnant. In trying to concieve our third and final child, I was diagnosed with PCOS. We despertly want another child. I guess everyone has this dream of how many kids they want and how far apart they want thim. My dream has been shadered. Many tell me that I should just be glad I was able to have my two and not push for more. It hurts when people say that. I love my children and want more. Next week I am going to my doctor to discuss starting clomid after trying to concieve for 1 year. I am confused, am I asking for to much by wanting another baby after I have two that are healthy and beutiful? Should I take clomid? Email me and give me your thoughts! martin07@iland.net

(39) Krystal says:

I started taking clomid this month, the 50mg cycle, to me it felt like right before any period I’ve ever had. A little bloatedness, nipples tender, and mucus a little drier. Other than that I haven’t had any problems, and your doctor will tell you what you should do based on your specific situation. I took it on the 5th day of my period, 3 days after the last pill I was told to have sex every other day. The missionary position is the best, and putting your rear-end in the air, but have you gotten your partner tested? My husband was tested and his sperm are all morphed (disfigured). He has over the amount needed, but they aren’t pure*. Also, I’ve had an HSG, it doesn’t really hurt, its uncomfortable like any pelvic exam. It’s really cool, to see your insides, lol, but a little gross as is any GYN visit. Good Luck!

(40) Nadine says:

Hi Ladies,

I started taking clomid in 2006, I wanted to have a baby and I was diagnosed with PCOS. I was 31 and fell pregnant on 100mgs, second cycle. I ovulated well both cycles and I now have a beautiful 2 y.o baby boy.

I am now taking clomid again, hoping to fall pregnant with a second child. This time I didn’t ovulate on the first cycle taking 100mgs. My Ob/Gybo increased my dose to 150mgs, and I ovulated the second month but didn’t conceive. I am now in the middle of my third cycle – I have suffered many side effects, one of which was some ‘spotting’ whilst taking the clomid. I am concerned that taking such a high dose will cause additional complications. I read somewhere that high dose of clomid 150mg’s or more can cause you to produce less mucus and can make the lining of your uterus thinner – both can make successful conception more difficuilt. Does anyone know anything about this……good luck everyone ;-)

Hi Girls – I am actually on my 6th cycle of Provera 10mg and I was also prescribed clomid 100mg and the funny thing is I’m sixteen days late I was normal for about 6 months until now because before I was on a 55 day cycle and then being on provera jumped me to 28day cycle interchanging with 32 day cycle when I would stress out. I finally broke down and used OPK in February and found out I ovulated on Valentine’s Day but now am waiting I took the first pg test 3 days before my period and it came out negative now I’m afraid if I take it again it’ll turn out a BFN as well. I’ve narrowed it down though with Provera my period will start on an average 18 days from the first pill that I take. DH and I have been trying for four years now I am going insane if you have any advice or are in the same boat as well don’t hesitiate to email me. starbroomryder@yahoo.com

(44) Hope says:

Hi. I have a success story to share. My son is a clomid baby. He is now 3 1/2. I was given clomid to take in 2005 because I don’t make progesterone and therefore, don’t ovulate. I’ve never had a regular period and in Feb of 2005 I randomly got my period and took clomid 50mg on days 5-9 of my cycle. I took preg test on day 28 and it was negative. I took another one on day 31 and it was positive!

My husband and I decided to try for another child. I’ve had my progesterone tested again and I’m still not making any. I was given provera to induce a period and took clomid on days 5-9. I’m now at day 12 and having lots of abdominal discomfort. I hope that means I’m ovulating! I’ve had a lot of strange side effects this time around that I don’t remember experiencing last time. Hello everyone,

I am currently taking Provera for 10 days to force a period. I will then go on Clomid for 5 days. I have not talked to my doctor too much about it. I was just told to call the office on the first day of my cycle and that we would go from there. I have read a lot of these stories and was thinking of asking him if I could start at 100mg on days 3-7 or if that would actually slow the process down. My unit is deploying in about two months so I only have two Cycles to make this happen. My husband and I have been TTC for about a year now and I am just not ovulating on my own. He has two sons from a previous marriage so we havent even checked him at all at this point. I have 3 more provera pills left and then its on to the Clomid. I have read a lot of success stories and I am very excited to try this. I have high hopes. Good luck ladies.

Hi! I took a round of clomid and got a postive pregnancy test. I went in for blood tests to get it confirmed. Yes! I am pregnant, but… my HCG levels are lower than desirable. Does clomid affect HCG levels? At 4 weeks the level was 74 and at 5 weeks the level was 633. Should I be worried?

hello, I have now taken Clomid days 4-8 and I am on CD12. I am using ovulation detection tests to try to track when I ovulate. Once I get a possitive result I am to make an appointment to test my Progesterone level and see if I Ovulated. My docotor told me to have sex every other day CD11-21. My husband and I are doing great with sticking to the plan, so I really hope that it works. I will keep you all posted.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the clomid doses/timing. Last month, I took clomid days 3-7 and this month I took it 1-5 (without consulting my doc) and now he is telling me that my ovaries are enlarged but he says not to worry that I will just have a weak cycle. Please advise if you can.

(50) Heather says:

Hello everyone, I just thought that I would update you all on my cycle. After the Clomid I was using the OPK’s to predict ovulation and they just do not work for me. I would get a possitive one time and then the next would be no line at all and then the line would come back. So, I stopped using them. I did get a progesterone test done 7 days after that happend and it was only 2.8. I did however have a temp spike a couple days later and that is what Iam going with for my ovulation date. That was Saturday the 6th of June, 2009. Iam now on CD 33 and 12 DPO. I have taken a pregnancy test and it was negative. TCOYF software is telling me that I did have a Triphsic tempeture shif that could mean that I am pregnant. So, only time will tell. I will try to keep you all updated.

Hi – I have started my first cycle of clomid today (2nd day of my cycle) as instructed by my consultant. Please can anyone tell me which days of my cycle are best to have intercourse on so to increase my chance of pregnancy? I had regular periods of 26 days prior to this.

July 29, 2009 at 7:25 pm
(52) Heather says:

My doc tells us to BD every other day CD 10-21. Or every other day CD 10 until you O. Also, Clomid can dry you up so pay attention to your CM and if it seems thick or dry then take Mucinex daily until after O. It is fine to take with the Clomid.

I am on my third cycle of Clomid now and it is frustrating to read so many stories about Clomid and how other people get this test and that test and my doc doesnt do anything. Frustrating!! But I have requested a Progesterone test 6 days after O this time and I hope the doc says yes to that. I think I O’d last night but not possitive. We will see if my temps stay up tomorrow or not.

The first month I was on Clomid 50mg CD 4-8 and I think I O’d CD 20 and AF showed up on CD 35. Second round 50mg again CD 3-7 and either no O or I O’d really early. This round I am on 100mg CD 3-7 and I think I O’d last night, CD 14. I hope it works better for you than it has for me.

I did that every month till june and upped thed dose to 100mg just to find out i didnt ovulate the month of 100mg. I am so upset! Now I’m on 100mg 2x a day for the first time days 5-10. The scary part is I feel nothing really. No pains just a BAD headache. Does anybody have any info for me. I can’t afford the expensive stuff so I’m scared if this doesnt work

Also b/c my periods are crazy i started on day 20 and will take the clomid on 24 when she i start to have sex day of my last pill???? can anyone help me?

(55) Heather says:

Hello ladies,

I am on clomid as well with no symptoms. I feel nothing wither so you are not alone. However, I do know that it is working. You need to get a progeterone level check on cycle day 21 if it is above 10 you def. ovulated.

When can you take it again, you take it every month for 6 months. You up the dose until you Ovulate and then stay on that for the 6 months. If you are not prego in 6 months then move to fertility treatments and further testing.

Also, you take Clomid on cycle days 3-7, 4-8, or 5-9. Day 20 is way to late. The pill tricks your body into ovulating. My periods were crazy before I started the Clomid and now I ovulate on day 14 and get my period 15 days after that every month. This is my second try on clomid after finding the right dose.

Good luck to all.

MD recommended I take clomid, but am a bit scared because I don’t want multiple birhts – have found side effects for me, but can’t find any information on side effects to the fetus – anyone know anything? I don’t want to take any meds until I get more information.

November 4, 2009 at 8:17 pm
(59) karri says:

T Diaz- Clomid will not have any effect on the fetus, because you are not yet pregnant while taking it. Don’t take it unless you are positive you are not pregnant. Also, multiple births are very rare. I’m on round 3 of 150mg. Apparently i ovulated on cd27 last month but had pretty much given up by then. i’ve been charting my last 2 rounds and find that this helps me track where i stand in my cycle. Now we just bd every other day until i notice a spike in my temps. Hopefully this works! Good luck to all of you!

Hi,

I was diagnosed PCO earlier this year. So, he refer to 50mg clomid but I didnot respond to that. Then he told me to take Provera which I took ard cd28 and I has period. Then I went for ultrasound but my doc told me that I have cyst. Unless I get rid of that cyst I cannot take clomid. Now I am in birth control pill hoping for that cyst to go away. Then my clomid dosage will go up to 100 mg (I think). I want to know does anyway had this kind of situation??

(62) Heather, Indy says:

Hello everyone, wow there a lot of Heathers on here. It has been awhile since I have posted anything. BD is sex, I forget what it stands for but that is what it means.

I was on Clomid for6 months with no luck. I am pretty sure I ovulated but I never feel it when i do so our timing was always off. We were referred to a fertility specialist. They put us on Femara which is like Clomid except you take it twice per day. You still take it about CD 4-8 ish. Followed with an HCG trigger shot andIUI. IUI is where they put DH’s sperm past my cervix. I figured it was a sure thing. But nope its not. So the next cycle we took the Femara for 7 days followed with an HCG trigger shot and IUI. Again it had failed.

At this point we wanted to talk to the docor again and at the apointment he suggested Femara overlapping injectable meds with US and HCG trigger shot and IUI. At the US there were 4 follicles that were big enough to have mature eggs in them. So, DH gave me the trigger shot that night and 36-42 hours later I had ovulation pains for the first time. I do not know if that was because there were 4 eggs or what but I felt it. The IUI wasperfectly timed and we sat and waited. The 2ww always sucks. In the mean time we had decided that this was going to be our last cycle as DH and I are both set to deploy and the deployments ae overlapping with me leaving first. So, we needed to plan for that and put Babies on hold.

AF is now 2 days late. It worked!!!!!!! We are so happy and excited. Now we just need to find out how many there are. I go in for blood wrk tomorrow to check my numbers and see if they have gone up. HCG was 27 and Progesterone was 51 on the first blood test.

I wish you all luck. For me the Clomid was a waste of time. Our infertility was completely unexplained. I think it was just a matter of me ovulating and Timing and putting the sperm past my cervix, which is slightly hooked.

(65) Virginia says:

First, let me pretext this by saying my husband is in the military and therefore I recieve most of my healthcare from them. My official diagnosis is unexplained secondary infertility. My first child, my son, was concieved within a few months of actively trying despite a slightly irregular cycle. He is now 4 and we have been TTC for 2 1/2 years now with no success. I’ve been reffered to a RE who basically contradicted herself anytime she got a chance- first telling me after having no medical proof that taking metformin would regulate my cycle, then saying I misunderstood and that was only a bridge to having IUI which we never agreed to do. I stoped seeing her and discussed with my GYN what my options would be. They said since I had no medical reason for secondary infertiltiy we could try Clomid but since this is a military GYN they give you 15 pills, tell you the options for taking them and leave you to your own divices. I took one dose of 50mg. with no luck. The period I got after was extemely light and only 3 days instead of the normal 5 I get. After that we decided to try an herbal route which for the past 8 months has not worked and been a bit expensive. I am now at the point where if I don’t get pregnant within the next month or two I will have to wait I don’t know how long becuase we will be transfering in a year and I can’t go pregnant and I don’t want my husband to miss the birth of our child. I am thinking about taking the rest of the clomid I have (wich would be 100mg per dayx5days) but am slightly concerned about multiples and also concerned that the lining would not be thick enough and therefore it wouldn’t work anyway. I have no explaination for what happened last time because I had no monitoring. I have looked for support groups in my area (which there are none) and have no one to talk to about this… husband is down at this point that its taken this long already- we had hoped to use the 3 years he was home to have a baby and experience everything he missed with our first by being away but now its not looking possible. If I wait until hes home again all the time its another 4 years and my son will be almost 9 or 10 then :(
Sorry for venting so much, I just really have no one to talk about these things with. Any ideas or opinions are appreciated.

My doctor prescribed the medicine to me because i requested, but has really not given me any further directions besides taking it days 3-7 of my cycle. I have done research and there are a lot of tools to help me. So i feel that is only a matter of time before this works. They (net research) say that it takes anywhere from 4-6 months for you to conceive. Lets hope thats true.. Hoping the 3rd times really a charm. But i said all that lol to say this… I don’t know everything but i would love to talk and trade info with ppl who have the same goal.. Guess i needed to vent too lol well, baby dust to you all!

Hi ladies, I hav always known I had “problems” as I hav never had regular periods. I hav normal hormone levels but numerous cysts on my ovaries. I have been having unprotected sex for the last 3 years with nothing. I am currently taking my first course of clomid 50mg days 2-6. Period is not heavy so not sure it will last until day 6 but I’ve been advised to finish the course. I have purchased some ovulation tests from chemist which I plan to use to help me see when I’m ‘spiking’. I believe the optimum time is days 11-16. Like everyone else I cannot wait to be a mummy and my partner cannot wait to be a daddy either. I am excited, nervous, scared and every other emotion. But I have read many positive stories of success. I just pray it will be our turn this time, good luck everyone. Stay positive x x x

My husband and I have only just decided we still start trying, my doctor put me on Provera for 4 days, then clomid from day 5-9 (i have 2 more days to go on my clomid).
Ive been reading many of you have been trying for many many years…however my doc has put me strait onto these meds from the get go! No waiting! So Im praying to god that we are successful first round. Its so hard when you want it so badly and it seems everyone else around you is pregnant.
Even though we have only just started trying, I have wanted a baby for 2 years!!!!! Hubby just wanted to wait, now hes really keen!
