Tissue, Blood, Cramps - What's a Normal Period for Teens?

Tuesday August 26, 2003
PMS Premenstrual Syndrome Forums: I am 15 years old. I just moved in with my aunt and I am not comfortable with asking her questions. I've had my period since I was 13 and each time I had it- it was like tissue and blood. I got my period in the beginning of August. Now it's August 24 and I have it again--this is the first day. So far there is no tissue it's just blood. Is that normal? I have cramps like usual. Is this normal or am I just being paranoid? What do you think?

I am 13 and have had my peroid since I was 11. I always have tissue and blood. I’ve asked some other people about it and they said it was normal. So I don’t think you should be worried.

(3) Owens MaMa says:

My period often comes at the end of each month so if its a week or so later it puts it in the beginning of the next month. and than its kind enough to come on time at the end of the month. so some times i end up with it twice a month. so for me i would say this is normal. and sometimes i will have tissue and sometimes i wont. my guess would be that because it was such a short time in between, there wasnt alot of linning built up.. for it to shed. however i am not a dr. and if you have a concern i would perhaps mention it to your aunt or a dr

i always have my period at the beggining of the month. So it is O.K. to see blood and tissue.

(6) Maddison says:

I’ve had 4 periods so far.
I started on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) of 2008… I started 14 days after I turned 14… (Weird) Anyway, My first period was like 24, or less, hours long. And it was just blood. And with each period more tissue has been showing up. But menstration is really just the lining of your uterus, which is set up for a baby, shedding blood and tissue. So yeah, it’s 100% normal. The heavier your period gets, the more tissue shows up. Check out http://www.beinggirl.com and set up an account (it’s free). It’s great! Lots of info on period, puberty, and life!

(7) Amanda says:

I’m 19, and have had them since 12. Believe it or not, the “inregularity” could be because you’ve moved in with another woman. Often times, women’s cycles change with other women around. Not sure why, just know it happens. My mom and I started having syncronized periods within months of my first period, and when my niece moved in with us recently, hers changed to sync with ours as well. It may have something to do with estrogen in the air, who knows? lol But yeah, it’s totally normal. Especially when you’re young, the lining can sometimes be a little weak, but it doesn’t mean anything is wrong. :D If you still have concerns, you can always talk to your gynecologist. Hope this helped.

i started my periods when i was 11 and i used to have problems just like you, rhiannon. i once had a period for 26 days and i swear it was like a waterfall. i used to be on medication because i was so heavy.. cant remember what its called but then i was put on this medication called NORETHISTERONE for 3 weeks to stop my period (since it wasnt stopping) and since then i have never had such a long period again (which is a good thing. i swear it was exhausting!) i’m 15 now and i wont lie, i’m not totaly regular but i’m almost there. oh yeah, the whole tissue thing is normal, although not everyone leaks tissue :)

It was VERY irregular then , once i got it in 12 days ….. but i guess thats normal and ive noticed early periods dont hurt as much as late ones

right now i have mine – went to check on cramps boy i wish these go away soon

so yeah i have had them twice a month

and as funny as it is mine and my mom’s are in sync ….. she moved in with me last year ….. thats when mine changed

guess younger ppl have more flexible period times

(28) Kirsten says:

I’m 20 and i started my period when i was 17.. I know wierd.. I was worried at first but the doctor told me since i am so tiny it is normal. and then i told her that i saw tissue in my blood and she said that is also common and to not worry about it unless it gets really bad and doesnt stop. It is very normal to feel funny the first time you get your period because A.) your not used to it and B.) your body is changing. and the very first time it comes out brown.. =]

(32) Kayleenavy says:

Girls begin their period between the age of 10 – 19. It’s normal, if you first begin, to have a little spots come. Please always mention this to your mother, aunt, whoever is closest to you, female please, to let them be aware of it. This is a stage, or cycle, of your body maturing. It is most important that you always get your menstrual cycle once every 22-27 days. They can last between 3-7 days. There are light days and heavy days. It is normal if your period comes heavy to light, from light to heavy, or from light to heavy to light. It is abnormal if it is always heavy, last for more 8-10 days. It is normal if that persists once every month and it last the 8 days and heavy. But always ask a professional like a doctor, if it would comfort you, ask a female doctor or female nurse. Dont just ask people around, they might only mention and know only their own. I never get heavy, mine are always light, they last 7 days and 7 nights, and always start once at the last two weeks of each month. it’s normal for me that it continues like this, then it’s starts on a whole new week. My changes of my period is because of stress, not sleeping well, not enough excercise, not eating enough vitamins and minerals, lack of vegtables, or too much heavy work on my body. Notice what changes your period, is it stress? Lack of excercise? Too much cafeine? Am I not sleeping well enough? Talk to a doctor.

(33) kayleen says:

Sara: if your period hasn’t come in 4 months, have you had sex? Are you stress? Have you been sleeping? Exercising or eating? Speak with your doctor.

Samantha: its fine, its your first time. Also let your mother know and ask her any questions you have about periods. She is the best advisor about periods. also have your mom ask a doctor about first timers with period.

Candy: some is normal to most, some isnt. Ask your mom and relate to her, or speak to a doctor.

Anon: let your doctor be aware of that and listen to her/his advice.

Brianna, that is normal. Don’t mix, when in the restroom, between your urine and waste with your period. Swipe one way, and dab.
