Chronic Pain After Tubes Tied
Thursday August 28, 2003
Women's Health Forums: I have been having pains in my ovaries and uterus for months now. I had an ultrasound but nothing was found. I don't know what else to do. It seems the doctors are looking at me like I'm crazy but I really have pain. I believe it has something to do with my tubes being tied 2 years ago
but I don't know what else to do or where to turn. I just had the sonogram today. I feel helpless because I hope I don't have to live with this pain. The Dr. who did my sonogram said that the pain could be coming from scarring of my tubes but to find out I will have to have a laprascopy done (I don't know if my Drs. office will even do it). My Drs. believe that there are no side effects from a tubal but there are. How do I find a Dr. that is more sensitive to women after a tubal? Anybody with advice-please help. I'm so scared that I will have to live with this pain. Just to add, no the pain is not excruciating but at times it can be but it's a low, dull, chronic pain that radiates from my left pelvic area to my lower back. Have you experienced anything like this after having your tubes tied?

I have had my tubes tied for 11 yrs. and am having alot of pain every month and have had longer and heavier periods.. I went to docs and ran tests.. my uterus is swoolen to the size of me being 3 months term.. but i am not pregnent.. One month I was 8 days early and now I am 6 days late.. I have always been on time until now.. I am 34 and worried.. thank you
hi i dont know how much i can be of help but i am experiencing pain on my left lower side where the ovieris is located or uterus what ever area but the pain is located there and it is a sharp pain and somethimes i feel it in my right side as well and i was thinking tubal preg or a cyst on my ovaries but no test results was tooken cause i dont have insurance or money to go check and the emergency room dont do it and well thats what they told me but it hurts and i guess it could be worse but i crammp up constiently so i was wondering all of your symtoms and maybe between us we can figure it out it has been a little over one year since i had my tubes tied plus i had 3 preg and all was c sections feel free to email me at tigereyez1131981@aol.com
I am experiencing the exact same thing you are describing. I had my tubes tied almost a year ago and have been living with the pain since. I also had the sonograms done and still to no avail. My sisters tease me all the time that I am always in pain and now it is to the point where i just suffer in silence. Atleast I know that I am not alone.
Hello I have had my tubes tied for six years and have been living in pain since. I have been to the doctors and have had x-rays of my stomach and there is nothing they never find. I don’t know what else to do. Some times I have pain so bad I can hardly walk. And some times I have pain but it’s not so bad. I had no choice but to get my tubes tied but if I knew what I know now I would have never done it.
I had my tubes tied in Feb of this year and I am having the same problems. Also I have also gained weight. I hurt almost every day. I had no choice but to get my tubes tied my uterus tore when the doctor was doing the c-section. I have made an appointment with my doctor and hope to get some answers.
Mine was done late January 2006, I have the same problems however only on the right side the same time every month. I stopped having periods all together. The pains is so bad at times I can’t walk the pains shoots down my leg. I have been sleeping with a heating pad since March 2006.
If anyone has a any info please share.

Hello Ladies! I have been thinking about having this procedure done but after reading all of your comments I have been think twice about it. I was wondering these pains that you are getting are they when you do a certain gesture? I’m 26 and I have 3 kids and I really think this will be a good think to do, but now I’m scared. Do you ladies have any advice?
I had my tubal ligation done in 2002, have also been in pain since then. I went to several doctors both in canada and the USA who told me that my tubal ligation and the pain are not hand in hand. I was diagnosed with Irritable bowl syndrom, with endometriosis, and several other ailments that lead to multitudes of tests that came out negative for anything and medications that either made me sick or so lethargic I lost a job. I now am seeing a gynocologist who is giving me some answers. He told me that sometimes in tubal ligations that fluid builds up and can be helped by reversing the ligation and in extreme cases of abnormal build up the tube maybe reopened or removed. I have lived in this pain for several years and was told I was wrong and chastised on several accounts that I was not a doctor. When they do the laproscoptic surgery they are also going to be doing a look around (up close and personal) to make sure that my symptoms are not ovarian cancer related. I was told that these two problems are symptom similar so be careful that you are not misdiagnosed. There is a reason you are all going through pain and I know how it felt to have someone tell you for years that you are a hyprocondriac or something unrelated is wrong. Trust your body no one knows it better then you darlin.
Breeze,
Thank you so much for leaving you comment. I had a tubal done almost a year ago and I too have had the same pain as the above women. It’s hard and you are so right it’s not normal and we know our bodies better then anyone. I am printing your comment off to bring it to my doctor.
Thanks for your input….I think it will help a great deal of people!
Im so glad i seen these comments.I have been seriously thinking about having it done because i too have had 3 kids vaginally and now i have prolasps (where the cervix opening is hanging outside of my vaginal opening)and was hoping that maybe they could try to place my cervix where it is suppose to be during the process. It is irritating and i am more prone to infections, but otherwise it isn’t uncommon so my doctors say,and mostly happens to older women in their 60’s,but im 28.I have thought about the alternatives and im currently on Depo-Provera shots.I seen a commercial for a new contraceptive implant Minerva.

Im thinking about talking to my doctor and see if i am a canadate for it.Thanks for your comments.
Sorry Ladies this is the correct url for the new IUD Mirena.

Thanks ladies for your comments and information. I have four children and a tubal scheduled for the near future after child# four. After reading all the info from you the experts I most definitly am reconsidering.
Thanks to all for sharing. I am considering a tubal after 5 pregnancies and 4 births (my first a miscarriage at 27 years old,a c-section and 3 v-bacs) . Oddly I have always had really bad cramps that time of the month. I now know that they are like labor pains, it radiates from both sides of my ovaries down my back and down my legs. To where most the time it was hard to walk. I was diagnosed with endometreosis when I was 18 and told I should have a hysterectomy and that I would probably have no children and/or it would be hard for me. I didn’t do it. I took prescription motrin for the pain every month. Which only helped with part of the pain. I just learned to live with it. I am now 35 I and have lived with the pain each month since I was 15 years old. And I still can not handle it. And after taking strong doses of Motrin all this time I think that has done things to my esophagus and other parts of the stomach that are now causing pain. I am not sure if I could handle the chornic pain a tubal may cause. It is interesting to me though, I have not had a tubal and the doctors don’t really know what causes my pain either. I wonder if my body is already doing what the tubal causes in some women.
I had a tubal a year a go and started having pain immediatly. I was a fortunate woman to have never had bad cramps while menstrating but since the surgury, it kills me every month. I am only 24.I have three kids and was afraid of having more so I had the proceadure done. Now, I wish that I would have just risked another pregnacy rather than to deal with this horrible pain. I can’t work, or do basic things becasue it cripples me for five days. It hurts to just do normal stuff like change the baby or walk to the kitchen to make meals for the kids. I am seriously thinking of haveing it reversed just so I can go back to a normal life.
Hey ladies,
I had my tubes tied in 1991 after my second child. I have had problems ever seens,I could not stand the pain anymore after all these years there must be something they can do. I just saw a GYN Dr and he was telling me about this new surgery they do, it is called NOVA SURE! Really all it is a DNC! They also did another surgery too look at my insides and he said everything looks good. The surgery was nothing, not alot of pain at all! BUT now the Dr called said I have blood in my tubes,if any of you ever had this please let me know! So bottom line is if you have this problem with bleeding and cramps really bad talk to your Dr about NOVA SURE or DNC!
hey i just had my tubes tied 3 months ago and every night when i sleep on my tummy the pain hurts so bad and i also have been bleeding out of no where is this normal i’m only 24 i have 3 girls and didnt want anymore but i was never told about having this pain
I had my tubes tied 6 years ago, my pain started the week after I came home. My pain is different, I get Bladder infections and UTI’s. I had never had one in the 31 years that I lived before this operation, and now I get them every month. The pain with my cramping is so bad I take lots of meds and ice myself in bed. I have gone to doctors about the pain and I was told I have endometrios, but nothing that they do to treat it seams to work. Does anyone else get the bladder infections?
Hello! I am so relieved to have found you guys! I am 27 and have twins and a baby. I had the twins in 03′ and the baby in 05′ which is when I decided to to the tubal. Since the twins were a C-Section, they said I had to have my last one as a C-Section too, so I just had the tubal done then. Anyway, now I have this sharp pain that is mostly on my right side but sometimes on my left too. I will be fine, and then I will turn only the top part of my body to look at something w/o turning my hips and it will hit me like a ton of bricks. It is sharp, like I was just stabbed, but then when you turn back around it goes away. I have extreme mood swings now that begin sometimes 10 days before my period even starts. Also, my period is somewhere between the 22nd and the 6th every time, so I never really know the exact day it will hit. I can only judge it by the mood swings. My biggest complaint, though, is the sharp pain. Even when I sleep, if I roll over half-way, I will immediately wake up in pain and have to roll my hips over to make it stop. Sex is a real pain too. I’d simply rather not, because I just have to bite my tounge because of the pains in my side. My doctor told me a couple years ago when I was preg. that I had cysts, but he assured me, they would magically go away with the my birth. Do you think it’s that I still have cysts??
I am 30 and had the surgery done 3 weeks ago (before I found this site) I have been having unbearable pain in my pelvic area and lower back since 1 week after the surgery the Dr. said it would go away well it’s worse I can’t sleep sometimes I can’t move! If anyone finds anything out please post!!!
I had the procedure done during a c-section 4 weeks ago. No pain as of yet, but this scares me and I wish I had investigated beforehand. I have experienced a mucousy discharge that is bothersome and I am wondering if it is normal. Has anyone had this symptom after having their tubes tied?
hello, ladies i thank god that i had found this site. i had my procedure done two years ago. i have experienced just about the same symptoms as the others. i get severe pain in my pelvic and my lower back and i haven’t had a period since i had the procedure.i’m for tests on wednesday. i really thought that it was all in my head, and people would look at me like i was crazy so i just bear my pain in silence. i thank every women who spoke out on this matter.
Hello everyone. I am 24 and have 2 children. After my daughter was born I had the Marina (IUD) put in. I have had it for 1 yr. and 2 months. I have sevear pain, miagrains, hair loss, Sevear dipression, anxiety attacks, and I went from 110 pounds to 175 pounds. My Gyno confirmed that all these symptoms were caused from the Mirena (IUD) there for I have going in to have my tubes tied on the 22 of October. However now that I have read some of these post I fear that no matter what I do I am going to have to live with pain. My husband and I don’t want anymore children. We have 2 together and he has one from a previous marriage. I am scared to death now after reading these posts. Does anyone have anyother suggestions? The pill does not work for me, I got pregnante with my son on that and I got pregnante with my daughter while on the shot (Depo). What do you all think?
Another Thank you for all of your comments. I had to C’s and a tubal after the 2nd. Now I have a pain on my right side at least once a month. Like someone stabbed me. I have just been suffering through it. Someone said maybe it is scar tissue from the C’s? I had always thought it was the tubal, but never mentioned it to my doctor. I will now.
I had my tubal last year after my third child. It was very painful, but no considerable pain as described above. Now, I am experiencing bloating, I thought I was pregnant again, and discharge. I am also starting to have the cramping on both sides. I did not know that having my tubes tied would have so many symptoms. My husband told me it was all in my head, but thanks to this, I know that its not all in my head.
I had my tubes tied 8 years ago and prior to this I did not know what cramps or pain was. But, after having them tied WHOO the pain is brutal. I ahve had to laproscopy surgeries and they find nothing, I feel like the doctor thinks that I am nuts. I just don’t know what to do, any suggestions.
I had my tubes clamped (not tied) June 2006 after having my 3rd child in April,2006,unfortunately my husband was too chicken to have a vasectomy(and yet he was the first one to say “No more kids”)Soooo me being the loving wife that I am or just plain dumb as h@$! now is my better choice of words, I went and had my tubes clamped the fortunate thing is unlike tubal tying it is a little more easier to just get the clamps taken off, however I experienced the “Oh my God is it my time Lord” pain from day one. It got so bad that I couldnt stand or hardly walk and I would bleed very heavy as if I were hemmoraging. Finally in Aug 2006 I went in to my doctor and they told me I was hormonally imbalanced and immediately put me on birth control pills and motrin to balance me back for a month and it worked no more pain.I went in for my yearly pap in June 2007(this year) and he told me I had fibroid “nothing big it’s normal most women get those, I wouldnt worry about it” said the doctor..well screw you if something is there that wasnt there last year when i had my yearly why shouldnt I be worried?? Ohhhhh that’s right you’re a man, and you’re not spreaded across an examination table with your legs spreaded in a V-shape..Gee thanks!! Well the plot thickens after being pain free for a year and finding out that now I have fibroids, my pain has come back, you know the pain that you feel after you have your baby and the nurses tell you thats the pain of your Uterus contracting back to its normal size? Yah that pain!! Cant you tell that’s why I’m enlightening you ladies tonight, the pain has come back and its brought more ammo with em’ this time,I had to beg my 13 year old daughter tonight not to call 911 by it being so late and my husband being deployed to Iraq and no one to watch them if I have to go on the ambulance and that (like one of the other ladies mentioned) pretty much I dont wanna be making a bogus trip just for them to give me all these lil tests and them not find nothing wrong in their case and send me home the same way i came in…still in pain and with questions that either dont get answered or cant be answered with a rectifiable answer. So moral of the story to all the ladies that may be considering you can tie a bow and it’ll be okay, you can tie your shoe and it just might stay, you can tie the knot with the man of your dreams someday, But when you tie up dem’ tubes there is H3!! to pay !!!! Be careful make the right decision for you, dont let no one make it for you. i hope my TRUE but humorous comment helped someone decision tonight and not hindered or broken their spirit. God Bless
Okay Ladies I can’t believe what I’m reading here, I have been asking my husband if I’m crazy or something about all of this, I now know that I am not!!! I think that everyone of you are onto something and I do NOT remember anyone warning me of this before I had my tubes clamped shut. My c-section was Feb of 07′ and I have had the most erratic periods and pain like fire, (I’d swear I was giving birth vaginally) except it was in my pelvis and back. I am considering a reversal and wondering have any of you had one and did it help after the fact? I hope that you all get to feeling better and get some solid answers. Oh yeah and for the ladies that are suffering with there Dr’s, I have a female Dr who has 2 children for that exact reason! Take Care:)
I just left the Dr.s’ Office. After having blood work done and an ultrasound, he told me that my hormone levels are just barely normal and that my ovary is swollen. I immediately got on line to find out more! It is amazing to me the similarities in each comment. I, too, have had severe pain in mainly my right side, but the left as well. I had my tubes tied after my third child, just five and a half months ago. My first girl by the way. My sons are fifteen and ten, so I had at first written the pain off as results of a late pregnancy (I am now 35). Never before had I cramped during menstruation. My periods have become irregular, spotting just days after a five day period, extreme bloating and swelling (at times I look pregnant again), and unbearable pain! My doctor has been understanding about this pain, but I know that some doctors automatically think a person just wants the pain medication. There has become so much abuse in that area. I was unable to work for three days last week, I stayed at home with a heating pad. The doctor is going to put me on Yaz for 3 months, gave me an antibiotic, and prescribed provera to hopefully cause my cycle to finish. He too said it could be endometriosis. If this medication does not work, he says a DNC may be the solution. My concern is the pain. I have to be able to work. I did not do research on side effects of having your tubes tied before making the decision to have it done. I would have reconsidered knowing what I now know.
i wish i would have read this before i got mine done. i have a 2year old and twins that i had on sept 20 2007. so i decided to have my tubes tied, thinking ok, no more kids thats it. well i noticed that my stomach right under my navel is kinda hard and i still look like i am at least 4 months pregant. i expected alittle pouch after having them. i have like sharp dull pains were my doctor did my c-section but i believe it has something to do with the tubes.the pain comes and goes mostly when im playing with my little boys and i am in an indian style, leaning over. i just wanna know if anyone still looks pregant after having a c-section, my doctor said it will go away in 6months and it looks that way because the twins really strecth my uterus. well my twins will be five months on 02/20/07 and my stomach is the same. also has anyone had it rev and now its better? i pray to god that its noting serious, i dont remember the doctor form that they make you sign, mentions any of these symtoms and if not can we all take some kind of legal action?
I had my tubes tied in Feb. 2006 after my third baby was born. I have some pain when I am ovalating. I can tell when it is the 14th day. That is basically all the pain I have. My periods seem to vary. I was early last month and then this month I am late. I was reading about other people that had found out they were pregnant so I got worried about that. Took a test, negative but still have not started. I guess the pain just depends on the person. My motherinlaw has never had a problem or pain one after her tubes were tied. Hope this helps!
Check into Fibromyalgia – I was just diagnosed. I have had my tubes tied for eight years and now that you mention it I would say I have been having issues for about that long. check it out!!!
Hi I’m 42 yr old and I had my tubes tied in feb.1998 I have had pain in my right side every sence then as with alot of you sometime the pain is so bad i can hardly walk i had a hysterectomy in 2004 but they left my ovaries i still have chronic pain. I am glad to know i am not crazy I though maybe it was just me but its not. I copyed a few of your comments I am going to show them to my Doctor tomorrer thank you…
I had my tubes tied after the baby was taking out by c-section 6 months ago. I experienced pain and the doctor’s told me that it was my uterus contracting. That pain finally went away when it went back to it’s position or size. I have been breast feeding and while I breast fed all my children I never had a period. Will this pain you are all talking about come when my menstruating starts? This was my 6th pregnancy,4 live birth all by c-section. I have had two D&C from a twin pregnancy I lost and a early miscarriage. We didn’t want to lose anymore babies and the doctor said I have a lot of scar tissues inside also with a huge hernia repair I didn’t want to take anymore chances of ruining the repair. After reading this, I got really scared. I hate pain and have gone through a lot with all kinds of surgeries.I’m not looking forward to experience this pain everyone is mentioning. Was it sudden or came in time unexpected?
hi im 23 and i just had my tubes tied for almost five months now. and i had it done cause i’ve had 3 c-sections . but 2 weeks after having it done i had an absces on my left side ..but now i do feel pregant i evan began having morning sickness? all (preg)tests say neg. its werid. i look 3 months as well?
Hi I have been having pain in both sides by left and right when my tubes were done I had one ovary stuck in my pelvic region called hiasions I still suffer pain thinking it has been appendicitis but to find out my body was doing somersaults it is related to the pelvic region I go in hospital again this year to have all parts of abodmen checked I am also having a device put in to easy the period pain and heavy bleeding it gets inserted into the uterus
I’m 44 and due to have my tubes tied on friday this week. After reading all the messages I have seen I’m seriously thinking of changing my mind
I had this surgery on March 24th of this year. My pain started when I first came home and lasted for about a week. It then returned last week, and has had me in the bed on a heating pad every since. I have a post-op appointment tommorrow, and will discuss this with the surgeon. If I would have know that I would be experiencing such horrific lower back pain, I would have never opted to have this surgery. I will write again sometime this weekend should I get some definitive response from my DR. If not, I want to be the first to tell any women who is in mid-decision about procedure, “Don’t do it.”
I also wish I would have read this first before I got my tubes tied. I hadit done in March 2008. I was so excieted about not thinking I’d be pregnant each time. I m not good at taking the pill so, I did the Depo I lost Bone mass and Im only 31 so the Drs said I had to get off the shot.
Since I got my tube tied I’m tired, I get aggervated easily, my stomach is still swelled up, and just last night I was lying in bed on my stamach and I had the worst pain ever on my right side. I jumped up I couldnt walk, lay down, or even sit, it felt like a knife going in my right side and hurting through my back, my but was swelled up and I also have discharge. Now, my husand says it will be ok and its in my mind about it being from the surgery because the Drs said nothing would happen. It was my first time dealing with that pain. I’m so glad to hear that there are others and its not just in my mind.
I had my tubed tied after my eight miscarriage(which i had a chocolate cyst that was 9 cm and had erupted) then after the recovery period was over they did the tubal, I wanted a full hysterectomy because since the age of 12 I have had severe endometriosis but due to other health reasons they said no. Anyway I had double severe pain but didn’t stay in bed than more than a day because I have three small ones who require me do everything and a husband in the field all the time. well now I have this burning pain all the time on my right side in front of my scars, there’s a bump like the tubes are popped out, when I wear my low cut jeans its brutal, and now the left is cramping and I am so so so tired all the time physical. i know i haven;t suffered as long after tubal, but I have suffered all my life and pushed to hide it to all I cannot take more problems, like the urinary, yeast infections, the pain, the periods enough is enough and people out there experience the bleeding or burning feeling?

I am so sorry you ladies are going through this horrible pain. I did not have my tubes tied. I had my husband fixed instead. I was worried for him, but I Knew it would be less likely to hurt him.
I’m outraged the doctors are being such a$$es. You definately have to take them by the balls and tell them you respect all the time they spent getting thier education, but something is wrong and they better take you seriously.
I know a child they wanted to take her apendix out, and the father had to throw a fit (throwing furniture)to get the specialist to confirm the diagnosis. guess what, it was gas. what are the odds they would of done the operation and said “oh well she didn’t need it anyways.”
I wish you the best in finding a solution, and or, a better doctor.
Sorry forgot to add this link

I had my tubes tied in 99 after my 2nd child. I have had pains every month since then. The pain feels like someone is inside me stabbing me with a knife. My pain was on both sides, but now its only on my right side. At first I would have the pain just about everyday I had my period. Now it’s only on the first day. As soon as I start spotting, the pain starts. It is so unbearable that I can’t do anything that day, but lay in bed with a heating pad. I’ve been to several doctors and to a specialist..they tell me to pop motrin or mydol a day before my period starts. But my periods are never normal. Even though the pain is only one day it still isn’t normal. Its so frustrating because they do look at you like you are crazy when you explain it to doctors.
I have been reading these comments and I too have experienced alot of the similar problems having my tubes tied after my third pregnancy in 2007. I have been checking things out on line and I came across a very interesting site….if you have a few minutes take a look and see if these symptoms sound like you…http://www.tubal.org/symptoms_of_pts.htm
The article is about a thing called PTLS…Post tubal ligation syndrome it has some interesting things to say.
Hope this helps!
Dear Ladies, I had my tubes tied in 1997 and ever since I have had excruciating pains that drop me to the floor, i was in Walmart one evening and my husband had to finish checking out and help me to the car. I went to my doctor and he did a pelvic exam and about brought me off the table while palpating my overies, it was everything that I could do to drive myself home after the appt. I spent the night rolling around in so much pain that my family wanted to take me to ER. I called my Dr. and told him that what ever he did hurt me and he stated that “At least we know what is wrong now” You have a female problem!NO KIDDING? I have been trying to tell him this for years. He sent me for an ultrasound and it came back fine. I need to know what is going on, I am now in nursing school and from what I have learned I know that there is deffinately something wrong with me. My advise to anyone thinking of getting their tubes tied is that I don’t think that it is natural to interupt your bodies normal flow. Your eggs are ment to be released from your overies and if they aren’t they are backing up and have no where to go. Today they have those IUD’s it goes in and prevents pregnancy but if something goes wrong it can be removed. My Dr. told me when I had my tubes tied that it would be very hard to reverse it.I need answers or surgery or something but I am just relieved to know that I’m not the only one THANK YOU!!
does anyone have any positive results from a tubal? I have an appt. on Thurs. for a consultation, now I wonder if I should cancel.
Hi Im 24 years old and have two children. My first I have a very bad delivery where she had shoulder dystosia and I suffered 4th degree tears….so I opted to have a c section with my second last december…I had a tubal as well had like many of you on here I am having the same problems. I have never had pain like this before. Nothing seems to help. Im going to my dr. soon and will be talking to him about this…
I have the sam pain as most of you i am 24 and have three kids i got my tubes tied in 04 and have had pain since i cramp in my right side lower part of my tummy and goes down my right leg it hurts so bad at times i cant walk or even stand up i have never had cramps like this before 04 i wish at times i would have never got them tied
I have been on the depo shot for about 9 years. The doctors want me to get off of the shot and get my tubes tied. Before reading all this I was thinking about it but now theres no way I would have it done. Thank you all sooo much for saving me all that pain.
Wow..I wished I had looked all this up before I had mine done..I would have never done it…Like a lot of you, I have the same pains…I had my tubes clamped in 05 after having two kids and a molar pregnancy…and have had some very bad pains ever since…I could just be walking and and stop dead…But I guess I am lucky went to my dr with my problems and he’s said it could be different things and will do surgery again too look around..said some things could be my clamps have come off..or they could be irritating my uterus or my overies or other things in my body..and that if need be he will take them off…It’s amazing a male dr could show so much concern for me and my feelings…I hope everyone gets better and gets answers!!
I have some of the same problems. I am 29 and have had 4 pregnancies (5 kids, twins first time round but lost her at 2 months) and all by c-sections. My youngest was born in Sep of 07 and when I had him, I had my tubes tied at the same time. My periods were always irregular so that didn’t change but my flow is definately way heavier than it’s ever been. I have to use a big pad and the super plus tampons. Also, I get the painful cramping a week after having my period like I am on my period again and it really hurts. When I skip months and have my period it is also much more painful and it wasn’t before. I cannot have anyone touch me below the belly button because it’s so painful inside and super sensitive. My kids like to jump on me and play around and I thought that I was dying one time when my son did that. Even during sexual intercourse it hurts me so bad I have to tell my husband to stop. I don’t have any insurance though, so I guess there isn’t really anything I can do about it. I just normally take about 6 liquid advils at one time, but that doesn’t really do me any good now. I wish I would have known but I needed something done.
After reading quite a few posts, I am wondering if I suffer the same symptoms.
I had a tubular done on June 24th, and the only problem I had so far was feeling a little sensitive around my belly button. Last weekend I got caught in the rain and my clothes were rather damp. I was visiting my sister, so we were sitting outside on her porch for most of the evening. By midnight, the weather had changed over to a very damp cold atmosphere. Still wearing the same clothes, I caught a chill, and finally changed into something warm and dry. It’s been 4 days now, and the pain is unbearable. I can’t sit for more than 10 mins then I have to get up, I can’t lie down flat on my back, and I can’t walk for more than 10-15 mins.
If I lie down on my side that seems to work. I’m popping T3’s like crazy, but can’t take anything else since I don’t know what’s causing this.
Up until a week ago, I was alright, but sitting outside with damp clothes, in damp weather really seemed to change this drastically.
I’m hoping it’s just a slight pinched nerve or possible some kind of muscle spasm, but in any case what I’ve read so far has been terribly shocking.
Has anyone else had the same type of reaction as I did?
thank-you so much for this information i was having second thoughts about having my tubes tied but after reading all of you ladies comments im happy i went into this sight before i had it done thank you again and im sorry that all of you are having so much pain hope you find a doctor that can help you get better i will pray for all of you
I had a tubal done in 96 after my 3 c-section. I have been having the pain and chronic yeast infections since then. I have also had CTI, MRI, sonogram, blood work. The dr. told me I should be checked for sexualually transmitted diseases. I have been with the same man for 21 years, you can only imagine how that went over. I am having the pain today, still after 3 tylenols an hour ago and still can’t stand the pain. What is wrong with dr.’s today? I have been treated for depression, kidney stones, you name it. And still nothing, just pain. I do know if I drink lots and lots of water it helps and I also take caprilic acid for the yeast and that seems to help alot. Good luck, if anyone finds a cure, please let us know.
Hello Ladies. I too had a tubal about a year ago. I gained 20lbs in a couple of months and became the devil. I was so moody, my periods got worse, pain in the lower abs all the time and felt like I was in a fog. I’ve been to the Dr. and they said nothing was wrong, I thought I was going crazy as well. About 2 months ago I had very bad cramps (like giving birth), I passed huge clots and a lot of bleeding like never before.
After that day I feel like whatever was causing the problem was gone. My body cleaned itself out of whatever was building up from the tubal. I’ve lost all the weight, my moodiness is gone, and I feel great!!
Hello.I had my tubes tied about 6 yrs ago.I have pain, cramps, uti’s,heavier bleeding, longer periods, sick to my stomach, gained weight, headaches, hot flashes, sweats, swelling, you name it.I am now 32 yrs old and it is only getting worse.I never had any of this til i had my tubes tied.I would not have it done if you are thinking about it.
Oh my goodness ladies this is so real I am reconsidering having a reversal tubal. I thought it was just me I just recently had my tubes tied im young Im only 26 will be 27 soon. and I have a nine year old it hasnt been a year yet and I have gained weight and get twinges of pain in my ovary region. Doctors seem to think they know everything I’m in school to be a surgical RN and I am here to tell you my body has fallen to pieces since my recent tubal I’m EVEN willing to go and spend money out of my own pocket because my insurance dosen’t cover. So yes It is true with any kind of surgery the body changes. Its just one of those things to get a doctor to understand that. GOOd LUCK LADIES!
I saw a comment on there about the Mirena IUD. You want to stay away from this type of birth control. this will only cause more problems. I was sick right after getting the MIRENA and then had to have surgery to have it remove. I went with the tubal since I had to have surgery any way
Hi ladies. I can feel for each one of you. Chronic pain is something that can stop you in your tracks. I had my tubes tied in 2002 when I had my third c-section. I have experienced problems since that time relating to menstration and pain. In October of 2006 I noticed that in my c-section scar site there was a bump. At first I thought it could possibly just be scar tissue and went on with it. By December it was larger and I was frequently having to stop to catch my breath the pain was so intense. After being misdiagnosed by a doctor, I had one surgery that did not correct the problem. Four months later I had another surgery to remove was is called an endometrioma. In July of this year I had a partial hysterectomy and finally I am pain free. For all the women who are considering having their tubes tied, I would recommend that you very seriously look into all the possible side effects prior to deciding on this. Most unfortunately doctors often believe that they know what it going on with our bodies better than we do ourselves. This is not the case. Listen to what your body tells you, don’t give up, and find a doctor that will listen to you.
Thank god for women like all of you.I have 3 children and was going to get my tubes tied. Now I have changed my mind.Thank all of you.
i too am having all these pains & symptons and then some. i have 3 kids(single & twins). had 2 c-sections and tubal at the birth of my twins in 2000. in 05 i started having pains from my belly buttons to my knees. plus all down my legs and all around my back. alot of pain along c-section line and groin area. i’ve been to almost every doctor and specialist. all tests are negative and they have told it’s in my head to see a shrink. it’s my body-i know what & how i feel and what i feel isn’t normal. my skins feels dead. i’m trying to find a doctor that will actually listen to me and believe what i tell them is true. i don’t know where else to turn. i can’t work and miss out on alot of time with husband and kids due to pain. i’m happy to see that i’m not the only one that feels what i feel. any suggestions feel free to email me saalza2215@yahoo.com
I have been having pains for the longest time i got my tubes tied in 2003 after my third child all of which where born vaginally with no complications. I have sudden sweat break outs in the middle of the night, bad pain on my side feeling like a contraction. I have been to the doctor several times never to have a diagnoses of what may be wrong with me. I was told that eating and drinking things with caffiene can cause the ovaries to have some sort of effect. Like you all it kind was something that i knew wasn’t normal never had any problem before having this procedure. I am so scared becuase i have had a laparscopy and was told that one of my tubes is open. I don’t know what to do?
i had my tubes cauterized back in 2001 when i was 29 yrs old and have regretted it ever since, not only do i have horrible cramps, but my periods last for up to 2 weeks now..heavy flow would be an under statement, most doctors deny there is any side effects but but i can say that is a lie,i was fine before my tubal never had any problems, another side effect is weight gain that is extremely hard to lose..if i could go back in time i would run out of that hospital!
Hi all…. I am 35 and living ALSO,,, W/pain on my right side ech month since having tubes tied. I had my operation in 1997 at the time I gave birth. I also should note that I had a vaginal birth after c-cect, which later I found to be NOT GOOD… Back then I was on medicaid, and my doc I suppose didnt think I should be “learned” about possible risks, etc. Looking back it was more or less a sign here, and no woory situation. Back to the subject,, ,I have had problems with periods, night sweats, pain, migraines, and just feeling flat out crazy at that time each month. Yes, I have had Sonogram, mri, blood work ups, annual paps and so much more. Just to be told its basicly in my head. Last year I was given an endometrial ablation to slow or stop abnormal bleeding which is,,, ” burning of the cervix”… To no suprise it apparently didn’t take. My periods are worse at times, same pain, and still night sweats. Im at my wits end… Doc aid it could be scar tissue, and given doxycycline, and provera combintion. Next it will be a hysterectomy he stated. I dont think I should have to have another operation,,, esp.. at my age. This month I am so sick, late, and so swollen in my abdomen. I look every bit of 5 month pregnant.. Any advice??? Thoughts…
Thanks to all.
i’m the same person as comment #61. i’m just curious how many others have been put on pain meds to find they don’t work. that’s when the docs really think you’re crazy. i’ve been on vicoden and percaset and a few others-only to find that they don’t work unless you take the whole bottle. not something i wanna do when i have to take care of 3 kids. any comments to that please let me know. i’m very curious. saalza2215@yahoo.com
Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one. I have been having worse pains after my tubal ligation than before. I am also having more UTI’s. I am really wanting to have a reversal. Would Medicare or Medicaid cover it?
I am curious about which type of tubal most women with this problem are having. I have titanium clips.
I am experiencing intense cramps, lower right and uterine pain, and bloating.
Is it the metal??? Are we reacting to the metal being placed in our bodies??
i’m glad i read this i was thinking about getting my tubes done but i can’t stand any pain i have 2 girls and a baby on the way i thik im just going to get the shot again
I have three kids i had my tubes tied in feb 08. i have had pain everysince. the doctor just looks at me crazy. My legs stomach and thighs feel like they on fire!
I had the same thing, my tubes tied back in April of 2007 and I get cramping on both sides all the time. And once a month they get really bad. But I don’t recall anybody having bowel problems. I am always taking stuff to make my bm’s more solid. Then when it is even somewhat solid it is terrible. So now that I know I’m not the only person going through this. Please lets work together to figure out what is wrong.
i will like to know what ages are all of you, because my two girlfriends and my mom (29yrs., 26yrs., 42yrs.)all had their tubs tied and they are all find. they told me they are very happy they got the procedure done and they have no complaints and no regrets. i had asked them because i am considering the getting the procedure done.
do anyone know what age you have to be, in order to get the procedure done?
I am so happy that I find you guys. I have abnormal cycles, but when it do decide to show up i get a bad pain in my right side. The pain hurts when i lay down , sit up or try to turn over in bed. I also get to the point I can’t walk or it hurts when I do. I have been put in the hosptial and have had several sono, cat scan , colon. and everything else you name . All the test come out normal. The only thing that is abnormal is a large amount of blood show up in my urine. I am not able to see the blood but it shows up in the urine tests. I am now 35 and this has been going on for about 2years. I had my tubial in 2001. I have two kids both c-section and i miscarrige. I am so scared. please advise. do anyone have the blood showing up in there urine also.
hi………I had tubal ligation 10 years ago; since then I always felt a light pain on the right side of my pelvic area, now it is a full blown pain,I feel it in my right side it takes my leg, i fell pain in the belly , i can’t sleep, i have to get the pain comfortable in oder for me to feel somewhat better. my right ovary is full, that’s what a E.R. doctor told me .I feel no control of my body.no pain killer takes it for good; yerterday i took 2 motrin 800 each nothing it did…..maybe the Gyn doctor pinch me a nerve during surgery.
I had my tubal done in August after my 5th child (and 5th C-section). It was heavily recommended to me to have my tubes tied this time around because I have a history of complications. My 5th was actually an oops-baby, as I already knew the risks that came with being pregnant again.
It’s been almost 3 months since then and I have constant sharp stabbing pains in my left side. I’ve had them ever since the pain of the C-section wore off after a couple of days. It’s not where the C-section scar is, it’s further out than that. Sometimes the pain is extreme and has me in tears, and other times it’s tolerable, but these sharp stabbing pains are always there. It feels like something is ripping apart inside of me. I can’t even pinpoint exactly where they are, but even just touching my skin on my left side can make it hurt worse at times. It honestly feels like I’m being stabbed from the inside.
I don’t even know what to do.
Hello,
I am 31. I have had 8 pregnancy Six live births. 5 vag 1 lost at 7wks one lost at 10 weeks dnc done my last was a c section. My last three I had to take pogesterone to prevent loseing them. Due to hormone levels not being what they should be. I has ill during most of my pregnancies. I lost weight 30 lbs or more each time my last pregnacy I ended up on bed rest and went in to preterm labor at 28 weeks I took medication for seven week. my doctor found that the baby has breech and she had to try to turn her. I went in for the turning and found that I was 5cm already and the baby was sideways. I was 35 weeks. My husband and me had talked about haveing a tubal and final decided that if a c section was a have to we would do it. on that day everything happened in 45 min no joke. the doctor said she was setting up a emergancy c section I mentioned the tubal she said ok and the next thing I knew I was in the operating room and she had delivered my daughter and was cutting my tubes. Ever since I have regerted haveing this done. But, my main problem is the pain I have sharp pains In my lower back and in my left lower stomach area sometimes on the right but mostly the left. dull and aching then the sharp bring me almost to tears. My periods are now 8 days or more and very heavy 6 days ( Like the day after birth), 2 days more like regular. and spotting for 2 to 3 days. severe cramps. and my hormones are more like full term pregnancy I cry at everything and overly emotional. I also get over whelming pains in my upper stomach off and on that can last 10 mins to hours. Sometimes I feel as if something is ripping apart under my scar. But everything I read on tubals there are no side effects.(ha ha) why if so many of us have these problems why do they still say there is nothing wrong? Has anyone found away to stop the pain? please help!
I JUST HAD MY TUBES TIED 1WK AGO AND I AM IN PAIN.I KNOW THAT IT HASNT BEEN LONG ENOUGH TO COMPLAIN. BUT READING THESE HORROR STORIES SCARES ME AND MAKES ME WONDER IF I WILL EVER HAVE RELIEF AGAIN.I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF ANYONE FEELS BETTER NOW.AND WHAT DID THEY FINALLY DO FOR RELIEF.
i just had my tubes tied 2 days ago and i’m
in so much pain i was scared but reading this i see i’m not the only one who is going threw this . i thought something went wrong but i guess not . i just hope it eas up some so i’ll be able to take care of my new born baby….
well i had my tubes tied a year and a bit ago, and again with all the symptoms you all have…. i am going to talk to my dr about getting it reversed i dont care how much it costs, i would rather chance having another child than dealing with this ALL the time. in between and everything. so i have had the ultrasound as well and it was inconclusive, they are talking about me getting a hysterecotmy ( i am 23 and have 2 kids) they wanna put in an iud.. ive been on and off different bc’s for a year, and nothing is working, i go to the dr every month sometimes twice always about pain, and have to get swabs done every 2 or 3 months. i also have to miss a day or two of work, and have to go to the hospital every month for pain to get some help with the pain. my cousin recently got her tubes tied and is having the same problem and her dr said after her telling him about my symptoms that they are rare! doesnt look like its all that rare!
Hi all…:)
I am 38 years old and I got my tubes tied(clamped) 13 months ago. I have not had any pain since then like the other people have been talking about on here. I got my tubes tied after being on the depo shot for 15 years. The only problem I have had since getting my tubes tied is that i recently missed a period. I went to the doctor and had a urine style pregnancy test done and it came back negative. My next period is due on Dec. 5, 2008…I guess i will wait and see if it comes. If not, then back to the doctor i go…:) I do not regret getting my tubes tied but i have heard of people getting pregnant after getting there tubes tied and that does worry me. I have 2 children(18 and 15) and i really do not want to have more children.
I got my tubes tied three years ago and I wis I never did it about a year after I started having unbearalbe pains randomly in the month I would miss work because I would be doubled over in the bed with a heating pad no over counter pain medicine was strong enough. I would be sore after the pain was gone and could not push down on my lower stomach I could not walk when the pain set in. It stopped after about one year, but it was the worst I went to every kind of Dr you can think of but no one could help me because the vaginal ultralsound came up negtive. I want to get my tubal reversed wish I never had it.
I had my tubes tied about two years ago. This last year I have had so much pain when I would have my period that it felt like I was in labor. I went to my OBGYN several times and we tried several things and nothing seemed to work. She sent me to a specialist to see if I had endo or adenomyosis. I described everything to the specialist and he just knew I had endometriosis. He told me that we had three options. The first would be to have a Lscope, Hscope and a DNC. The second would be an ablation. The last would be a hysterectomy. Seeing how I am 28 I was not really sure that I was quit ready for the last two steps. So I opted for the first choice. I had the L, H scope and the DNC three weeks ago. They found a lot of scar tissue on both ovaries. The right side was the worse. The scar tissue was pulling the ovary out of place and my uterus had adhered itself to my colon. They went in and cleaned all of the scar tissue out. I started my period two days ago and I do have some cramping but nothing as bad as it was. I believe if you are having pains like I was having ask your doctor about any of these procedures. If you would like to contact me feel free!!
i need some help ladies. i’ve had this pain for over 3 years. i can’t get a doctor to believe what i’m telling them about the pain. they all say it’s “NOT A WOMAN THING”. i know where i feel the pain and it is a woman thing. how does anyone get any help from docs when they don’t listen to us. it’s our bodies.
had my tubes tied in 2000 and this pain started in 05. the pain is so widespread and intense at times that at times i don’t wanna get out of bed. but all the docs say is that since all the tests are negative that theres nothing wrong. and when i tell them pain is worse during my periods they say it’s still not a woman thing. i don’t know who to turn to now. do i contact a lawyer-what??? i just don’t know where to go now. any suggestions????? i’d love to hear from anyone with help. don’t know how much more of this i can take!!!! saalza2215@yahoo.com

I had my tubes tied four almost five years ago and ever since I’ve had problems. My periods have been wacky and heavy and I have blood clots and sometimes twice in one month. The cramps get so bad that I can hardly move. I also get pain thru the right hip and leg. I have gone for ultrasounds a few times looking for uterine tissue and nothing has been found. I even had a scope done about three years ago with no luck. I have been put on numerous medications as well as birth controls to try and help regulate me but nothing has worked. The most recent doctor has me using a birth control called Merina. Now its knocked my periods down to a five on a scale of 10 where before I was at a 12 in pain during my periods. Up until today when I started researching tubal reversals it had never dawned on me that all of this mess started after I had my tubes tied and that all this mess could have been because of that. They can reverse the proceedure which also might help insurance to help pay half if not all of it. Its something I am looking into now. I’m glad I’m not crazy like most other doctors have made me feel in the past!
hello, i suffer from alot of these symptoms and have not been able to get help yet. i’ve been suffering for over 3 years. i’m curious to know if anyone that has been suffering with this has actually had their tubal reversed. and if you did are you now pain free. do you notice a difference. saalza2215@yahoo.com
I am right along side of you women. I had my tubes tied right after my daughter back in 2005 and since than my periods have all been coming sooner, heavier and more painful! I keep getting UTIs as well…talk about a pain in the ***, its a monthly thing now, light bleeding, cramps like i’m going to start, a very PAINFUL feeling mainly in the right side like i’m being stabbed or someone is ripping out my lower body parts…its almost unbearable at times. My kids can’t jump on me, heck the 5 lb cat can’t even pounce near the c-section scars it hurts so bad…I feel like part of my life was taken away after having 2 c-sections…its nice not to be pregnant but i’m wondering if birth control would’ve just been better!! Keep the chin up and your eyes to the sky and plenty of good pain killers handy….Thanks for sharing ladies, I hope these bonehead doctors can figure out some ‘cure’ soon!! Take care all of you and be healthy as much as you can!!! Amy
Seriously, Go in to see a massage therapist ALL OF YOU that are talking about these pains. I suffered them BEFORE and AFTER I got my tubes tied. I can not remember the name of the muscle she did but she rubbed the muscles right in the hip/stomach areas-had me let my leg(s) hang off the side of the table when she did it and WOW. She told me that MOST women have problems like the pains I was having because when youre pregnant those muscles are stretched and beaten up like crazy. And seriously, I go in to see her when needed- a 2 year old is kinda heavy to haul around and that also ‘pulls’ my back/neck out and gives me these stabbing pains again and each time she does it I am 150% better. I dont have ANY pains in my neck/back/stomach and it is SOOOOO nice. But, if you guys want anymore info on exactly what the muscle is and all that let me know and next time I go in I will write it down. (sweet_1_1983@yahoo.com)
I went and had surgery thinking I had endometriosis and had them tie my tubes while they were in there and well, after I healed from that the pains were back and everything! I went in and saw her and BOOM I felt better then I felt in years. I had these ‘pains’ after I had my first daughter and she is 8 now so I had these pains for YEARS.. it effected my everyday life so seriously try that before you waste money like I did having tests done for something they couldnt even find an answer to.
WOW I wish I would have read about having my tubes tied before I did it. I had my tubes tied three years ago and have been in pain ever since. My cycles are very long 8 days or longer and some months I have them 2 weeks apart. I never had this problem before my tubes were tied my cycles were very regular. I have been to several doctors and they all think I am crazy they have done test and nothing ever shows up. I’m at a loss as to when the pains will ever go away. It also does not seem that I will ever have a normal cycle again.
Hey everyone. I got my tubes tied in November 2007. Every since then I have been have pain on my left side. Sometimes it get to the point where I can not move at all when the pain strikes. My cycle has been on its own schedule and I bleed so heavy to where I have to wear two pads at once. I never had pain like this before I got my tubes tied but one thing that I do know, I am going to find out what doctor can reverse it. Like one of you guys said you gained weight. Before I got my tubes ties I was losing weight and now its coming back on. Also when any of you got your tubes tied, when your cycle came on it felt like you was having contractions? But anyways I am so happy that I found someone who is having the same problem as me and I am not alone. Maybe one of us can find out what can be done.
Same thing with me…It almost felt like I needed to push..lol! I swear I thought I was going to die. Then when I went to the docs she told me it was very common after having ur tubes tied…ok, so why didn’t u say that b4 I did it?? I’m 26 with 3 kids (2 are babies – 20 months and 5 months) and I seriously do not want to deal with this forever!?! I went back on the bc pills and it seems to have lightened up…but Why do I have to take the pill after getting my tubes tied?! Wasn’t that the whole point? uggg
I also had my tubes ties about 3 weeks ago and am experiencing this pain on my left side, but it just started 2 days ago. I thought it was kidney stones so i went to the Dr and got a prescription yesterday but reading this I am thinking different. I’m going to ask my OB when I go see him next week and see what he says but this pain is awful!
Then I will be trying the massage therapist and see if that works.
just had my tubes tie in feb . but i have bad pain on my right side . still not had a cycle but now i hear you could still get pregnant. is this right.
hey i just had my tubes tied january of this year and i have the same pain except mine bring me to tears sometime. i dont know what to do
hi im 20 years old with 3 kids all were c sections. i got my tubes tied january of this year and i have menstral like cramps almost all the time. sometime it hurts so bad it brings me to tears. i wish i would have found this site before.
I’m having the same problems that I’m reading about all over this board…stabbing pain over my left ovary, weight gain, pain in my back, and I feel like there is something THERE pressing against my hip bone. Saw the doctor yesterday. He says that he thinks I have a hernia there. I had my tubes tied 2 years ago after being told in delivery that my womb was like tissue paper and it was dangerous for me to have children. I’ve regretted it ever since. If I could do it over again, I wouldn’t have done it. I would have requested my husband to get a vasectomy. I also fear that some day these backed up rotting eggs are going to haunt me. I should have trusted my instincts. HUGE regret. Broken hearted for all of you. I’m in the same sinking boat. RATS!
It will be 2 years in Nov since I got my tubes tied. Been having pains as well. I thought I was going crazy til I started doing my own research. Been having a new symptom though. Has anyone have been having pains during or after intercourse? My family doctor has transfered me to the OBGYN department, I go Friday to see them. Just getting tired of not knowing.
I had my tubes tied in 1994 and it definitely changed my body. I went from hardly no cycle to having horribll painful heavy cycles.I too have dull pains throughout the months,I cant keep track of when my cycle should come cause it’s never the same from month to month, heck I’ve even gone months w/o one.Unlike the rest of you, I do not regret having my tubes tied. The pain is worth it because I have 2 children that I struggle to care for now with one of them in college. I’m only 36 so at this point in my life although married don’t want to have to worry with birth control and the side effects from that.
I have had to have biopsies done due to abnormal paps that haved cleared up and yes my doctor said the problems I have could be from my tubal and yes I have had yo-yo weight.
Irritable bowl syndrome is another thing I have found is common amongst all of us. When I decided to have my tubes tied I was only 21 and people said oh you’re too young but no one offered the information on the issues after the tubal. So with saying that to all of you who are trying to decide…the information people have shared on here is truthful, but if you truly don’t want more children just have it done even if you are married who’s to say you will always be with him so him being fixed will do you no good.
Pain with intercourse, before or right after your period. menstrual cramp, pain or burning with urination but no UTI(urinary t. infection) and if you had U/S(ultrasound) and no findings.
Please talk to you Dr. about possible endometriosis(only diagnosed by laparoscopy).
Good luck
I had my tubes tied in 2001 after my second miscarriage. I have one child and docs gave me a really hard time about having it done. I was not married and only had one living child, I was not quite 30 years old. What I really wanted was a hysterectomy, but they just won’t do that if they consider nothing wrong with you. Never told me of any side effects though, just kept saying “what if you meet Mr. Right and he wants children?” I told them he could find them somewhere else. After dealing with the loss of 2 pregnancies, I could not bear the emotional pain again and my son was already nearing his teens. Anyhow, before my tubes were tied, my cycle was extremely regular, I knew exactly when it was coming every month. I did have fairly heavy cycles with pretty bad cramps from time to time, but I could deal with it. Also, several years before my second pregnancy, I started to be able to feel when I ovulated (not every month, and it was just a twinge, nothing major). Since I have had my tubes tied, my flow has gotten heavier, with large clots, and cramps have gotten worse, I never know when it will start, sometimes a week early, sometimes a week late and anywhere in between. I went to the docs a few years ago to complain about it, I was convinced there was enough wrong to warrant the hysterectomy now, but no. Docs did sonogram (belly & internal) and said that nothing was wrong, it is all in my head. Well, I kinda gave up for a little while, just decided to deal with it. Not sure if I just got used to it or if it really did fade, but that was only for a while. Now, I have only one week pain free a month. I have the worst mood swings ever. My breasts are tender the 2 weeks before and the week of, sometimes they don’t stop hurting. I get physically sick during my flow like morning sickness, and to top it all off now I am getting the most excrutiating pain during ovulation time (2 weeks after period). It feels like someone is cutting my insides out, and this pain lasts for at least a day. This past time it woke me from sleep and I am a heavy sleeper. Before now, I had considered this tenderness to be my uterus swelling for ovulation, and the slight pains from my IBS (constipation), I figured that the pressure from my colon on the swolen uterus caused the discomfort. Well, now this ovulation pain is unbearable. So back to the doctor, I go. First thing she asks is if I could be pregnant. I told her I would hope not since my tubes have been tied nearly 10 years. She told me it is normal for women to feel this. NORMAL??? Is it normal for a woman in her late 30’s to miss work several times a month because she is ovulating and then again when her period starts? This kind of pain can not possibly be normal! Well she gave me a pregnancy test and, after some convincing, she scheduled me for a new sonogram. She never said whether the test was positive or negative, only that she wasn’t going to give me an antibiotic right now. What is that supposed to mean? Oh by the way, I do get frequent UTI’s, but I had gotten a couple of them before my tubes were tied. Well, I hope this sonogram finds something and I can finally have my hysterectomy. My mom had 10 pounds of fibroids removed during her hysterectomy.
Oh, forgot to add the my doc said that many women experience additional pain after their tubes are tied, but this fades over time. I have been nearly 10 years, how long is “time”? And is it supposed to get worse before “time” has passed?
I have been reading this board and I thought I would be the only one in this boat. I am 24 years of age and have two kids and had my tubes tied in March of 08. I have lower back pain, cramping like no other where it would bring me to tears, and my cycles are all over the place. Like this month I was a week late and 3 months before it was normal started on same day around same time, but this month was all weird and it always has me worried that my doctor didnt so something right. I have some pains in lower stomach like contractions but its really bad cramping that will bring me to tears. My lower back has been in pain for the past 2 weeks and nothing helps it. I wish I knew about the pain that comes after getting a tubal or I wouldnt of done it I would of got an IUD put in. I have been having IBS(runs) for the past month and a half which I have no idea what is causing it. When I do ask my doctor she thinks I am stupid and thinks I am just imagining all this pain b/c I am young and dont know what I am talking about.
I’m glad to know i am not alone, i had my tubes tides in 2007 and it’s been hell ever since.Firstly my periods are not consistent anymore. The pain is so bad and the bleeding is very heavy and to top it off whenever my period is close i get anxiety attacks my doctor told me that my body builds up stress due to the irregularity and to boot my last baby was c-section and sometimes i feel as though the cut is being ripped open again.Every month i have to visit my doctor when the time is near.
Hello,Ladies
I have the same problem my tubes were tied in 2005.I went to a GYN in 2006 and to my surprise she told me she thought it was a bladder problem. After exploratory surgery I was diagnosed by a Urologist with a bladder disease called IC.You should look it up.You have alot of pain and discomfort cramps and bladder spasms and sharp shooting pain from the belly button down into the groin area and ALOT of pressure.I would have never thought my pain was from my bladder I thought it was something to due with getting my tubes tied.So if ya have alot of urgency to empty your bladder and alot of UTIS and bladder infections its worth it to have it checked out.Their is no cure for IC either you have it for the rest of your lives its were the mucous ling in your bladder has hemorrages in it.Hope this helps and good luck to all!
Wow, I am so amazed at how mant other women share in my situation. I had my tubal ligation after the birth of my 2nd child in March 2008, and I too have had unexplained cramps, pain, horrible backaches, headaches, extreme mood swings, abdominal pressure, dizziness on and off during the 2nd part of my cycle. This has been EVERY month for the last 7 months. A couple of months ago I was so nauseous and sick, even had food aversions, that I swore I was pregnant again. I am so tired of feeling so bad, that I totally regret having this done!! I was 35 when I had my tubal, and I did it, because my husbands dad talked him out of a vasectomy, stating that it could cause pain later. Needless to say I had an ultrasound last month, and the only thing they found was a small cyst on my left ovary, which DOES NOT explain the constant abdominal cramping on all sides. I get so depressed thinking this could be like this forever, and a reversal is not an option for me, financially or even considered because my husband would flip out. Anyway, for any of you that decide to do this, DON’T DO IT… I really feel I made a hasty decision while I was pregnant, and I feel that I should have considered other options to say the least.
I had my 4th baby 5 months ago it was my 4th c section and i decided i wanted my tubes tied as i didn’t want any more children and like all of you ladies i had no problems before i got my tubes tied now for the last 4 months i have been in extreme pain in my pelvic region and my back i have had pap smears and blood tests and internals and nothing so far but now they are sending me to hospital to have scans done and i pray to god they find the cause.
Being in this much pain all the time is starting to take its toll i can’t have sexual intercourse i can’t do anything to strenuous and looking after my 4 kids is a real task I have been so worried about it all i am really at my wits end.
My pain is almost exactly the same as all you other ladies its mostly in the left hand side but goes back and fourth to the right too! my back aces in conjunction with the pelvic pain and sometimes its in my right thigh too. it seems to be worse at night when i lie down in bed but i think that may be because when your busy through the day its a slight distraction from the pain and when you stop reality hits.
Do you think that having the reversal may fix the problem?
I don’t know if i can go through any more invasive surgery i feel like my body has had enough now!
ladies i had mine tied 22 years ago the pain onley gets alot worse mine started about 8 years after i had my tubes tied that was in1987 ive had to live with alot of pain since. in would not avise anyone to have this done cause you will have some bad cramps every month i cant stand my self some time it hurts so bad, so if you cant handle pain very well dont have it done.
I had my tubes tied in nov. 2007 after my third child. i didn’t want any more children. so i did it even though i was so scared. i had pain from the time he did it. come to find out he bruised my right tube and i got a inf. from it. still with pain today and it is getting worse. every month a couple of days before my period i would cry from the pain. but for the past two weeks i have nauseated and pain off & on on my right side. I thought i could be pregnant to because this i show i felt with my last child. i go to the dr. this week so mybe he can give me some answers. Ive been wanting to have a hysterectomy due to all the pain & also due to my grandmother having ovarian cancer. but everone has told me they won’t do it. because im only 25. i just don’t know what to do. if anybody can help just let me know please. thanks katiesue181@yahoo.com
My wife and I have four beautiful kids, and we regret none of them, however we have decided it was our time to move on to the next phase of life, so we were talking about having me get a vasectomy. After looking at all the side effects I was scared off, and was just browsing around to see what the side effects of her getting her tubes tied might be in comparison.
After reading all of these comments, there is no way in hell I will even suggest it to her. I can deal with another form of contraceptive if it avoids either of us having to go through something so awful.
Thanks for posting what you have, it really helped me make an informed decision, and I wish you all luck, that you might find a resolution to your discomfort and misfortune related to your individual situation.
I am so thankful to have found this site. I am 22 years old. And two weeks away from giving birth to my second child. I signed a paper to get my tubes tied. But just started to hear bad things from family and friends. I decided to research it on the internet and found you guy. I have seriously changed my mind. And am now getting marina put in. It will keep me from getting pregnant for five years. And I can always keep going back every five years to have it redone. I am a stay at home mom and can’t aford to be in pain. Thank you all for being so helpful to me.
Ladies I understand all to well what your all have went threw I decided that I would get a tubal done here a yr and half ago and I’m 29 with 5 kids and I have more pain now and longer cycles than I ever had before. I think it would of been better if I would of sent my husband in to get fixed.
Sorry to hear about all the pain you guys have been in. There’s one website I know of to find gynecologists that will not lie to you!!!!
It’s called omsoul.com
They actually specialize in the Creighton Method, a form of natural birth control.
To all of you having problems…. This may help. I have expereinced the same thing and I had my tubal over a year ago. I have had constant pain every sense. I know that I have ovarian cysts that can cause pain, but any of you are experiencing the pain I have then you can relate. I finally got a diagnosis today and it may be something you want to check into. It is pretty painful to test for it, but it may be an option because it is not picked up on ultrasound etc. I have IC which is interstatial cystitis. Check it out on the internet. When the doc tested me for it today, he had to insert a cath(and I was awake
) and it did hurt. But, they first empty your bladder, then inject it with water, and then inject it with potassium. If it really hurts when they inject the postassium, then IC is the outcome. It may not be for everyone’s case, but I figured this bit of advice may get you somewhere. ITs worth a shot. I just know I experienced pain in the right side, but also stayed tender where your uterus would be constantly. I also experienced severe pain during intercourse. So, this tipped my doc off and he examined me, and finally I am on the road to treatment YAY!!! I hope this helps, and if anyone else has any questions, you can email me at dreewright@hotmail.com. Good luck.

Yes yes yes I have the same pain but mines is on my lower right side every month before I come on my period and all while on it..It became worse after I had my tubes tied. I have 4 kids & had I did get PG in the tubes after I had them tied & burnt. It is a pain that hurts so bad on my right lower side feels like my side is going to cave in. PLS. Help
I had my tubes tied in Dec. of 1997 after my thrid child was born. I too started having pain, messed up peroids, sever cramps, and large clots. It was to the point that i was bleeding for a month straight and having to wear pads and tampons in hope that i would not bleed through my clothes.I went to several doctors and all of them said i was fine. Your cycles change over time and what not. In May of 2007 I had to go to the ER because I had been bleeding since 4-1-07 and i was getting weak and all i wanted to do was sleep. This ER doctor actually done a pelvic exam and noticed my uteruswas inlarged. He then got me an appointment with an ob/gyn for the following day. The gyn done a sonogram(vaginal) and found lots of stuff that should not be there. They then done a D&C to remove everything, plus sent off the items removed to get checked out. I found out i was in the 3rd stage of cancer. Two weeks later i had my hysterectomy done. They removed everything.(ovaries, cervix, & uterus) I felt better after surgery than i had felt for years. I took the hormones for almost a year, but i did not like the way they made me feel. I even lost weight after the surgery. So please all of you women stay on top of it be blunt with them and keep at them! you never know if it is cancer… wish you all the best of luck with your case.
IF YOU ARE THINKING OF A TUBAL AND HAVE ANY DOUBTS, DON’T DO IT!!!!!
I waited a year and a half after my 5th child to get my tubes done. All was great with my health, periods like clock work.
I have had pain on both sides, just above my pubic bone ever since. I can’t stop gaining wieght, my periods are flooding for 1-2 days, my periods are unpredictable and I spot after sex sometimes. My breast are sore, my moods are all over the place. I can cry at the drop of a hat.
The doctor who did my tubes took photos for me of the procedure. He cauterized my tubes. The awful things was, I researched the procedure. My doctor, “to ensure I don’t get a tubal pregnnancy” burned my entire tubes away. I had no idea that is what he had in mind. There are only short stumps and one is burned clean to the fallopian “flower”.
AGAIN, DON’T DO It!!! And Good luck finding a doctor who believes you when the pain and health problems come. If you had a hole in any other organ, they would certainly believe it caused pain. I don’t know what the problem is with doctors…
If your husband doesn’t want anymore kids, tell him you’ll hold his hand and still love him when he gets his vasectomy done.
I feel so bad for all the ladies going thru this pain.. I had a tubal 9 mths ago after my 5th child. I have no pains but I can really see a big difference in my mood swings( I get sooooo emotional and depressed)around the time my period comes-When ever it decide to come. I bleed heavy flow for 7-8 days..I never ever had it like this..I also think it may be link to me not being able to lose my weight quickly..After giving birth I always dropped weight soo fast.not the same.. well we will get thru this..SOmehow
My mouth is on the floor right now … I had no idea other women felt the same way I do. I had my tubes tied 9 years ago I have been complaing that the doc tied my tubes too tight from day one. Lol …my husband thought I was crazy and a hiypercondrate…Over the years pain has gotten worse I am now 44. I have irritable bowel syndrome which has progressively gotten worse over last 9 year. I do feel like I am having contractions all the time…. I sleep on heating pad always…periods worse than when I was a teenagers. Weight gain was unreal after my tubes were tied… My stomach looked like I was 3 month pregnant and still does. (Doc said it would go down never has) Over the years the pain has gotten worse I have such severe pain in my lower back and ovaries, like so many of you on the left side all the time. Sometimes so bad I double over… lower back hurts like when you have an epidural. Difficulties after sitting and trying to stand up. When I last saw doc. I told him about my concerns he said do you expect me to fix all these problems? I told him yes and I never saw him again… 9 years is a long time of thinking I was crazy this has given me a peace I just hope I can find someone to help with relief now… I know now I am not crazy…ladies do not have this done find another solution.
Hi-well unfortunately im glad that im not the only one feeling this pain after the tubal procedure. It 5yrs almost 6 for me that i had it done. I constantly feel the pain in the lower area (lt and rt). I have mentioned it several times to Dr. but doesnt seem to find anything. Now, i just dont even mention it b cuz i get those funny looks also. Has anyone been given a straight answer yet?
Hello ladies, I had my tubes tied in 07 and let me tell you it has changed my life for the worst. Every time around the time I ovulate I get these terrible pains I can’t breathe it’s in my pelvis area usually on one side or the other and when I get my periods wow it’s excrutiating pain in my pelvic area and in my back down my leg that I can hardly walk. I asked my dr. if it could be due to the tubal she said we say no but a lot of women have the same complaint so we’re studying whether it has or not. I never had bladder infections before and now I get them every 4 to six months I have lost all control of my bladder when I get my period and am seeing a specialist this week for some answers hope he can give me some anyway this site is great glad that I’m not alone will print some of your answers to bring with me. thanks I’ll keep you posted with my answers.
After 10 years of living with pain I find all of these comments of my same problems. My uterus swollen as if I was three months pregnant stated by a doctor unable to go to the bathroom for days, pain that makes me feel like I’m having a baby to a point I’m unable to get up. With in the next couple of months I’m getting a tubal reversal I hope that will stop the pain i have lived with for 10 years
I had a tubaligation 6 years ago, and an ablation 3 years ago, I didn’t start experiencing pain until 6 months ago. I saw a pelvic pain specialist (ob/gyn) had an ultrasound, they found scar tissue and a small amount of fluid behind the scar tissue. However, not enough to warrant anything more than pain pills. If the fluid increases, I’ll have a dnc if not, I’ll just have 2 days of pain every single month and take a very strong pain pill. I hate this answer, the pain is so horrific it feels like I”m in labor for 2 days. I have to say, the ablation was one of the best things I ever did, I had heavy bleeding to the point that I would stay home on day 1 of my period, that has gone down to nothing. I basically have no bleeding and 2 days of severe pain that I use naproxen and in extreme cases vicodin to manage, it atleast lets me function like a human being during those 2 days. I will continue to search for answers, as I don’t want to take vicodin for the rest of my life. Good luck, ladies!
