Pregnancy and Varicose Veins

Monday September 8, 2003
Women's Health Forums: I have had 7 pregnancies and from the 4th on have gotten progressively worse varicose veins. Some in my thighs are as big around as my thumb, and with #7 developed some in the vaginal area. They only bother me when I am pregnant. With the last 2 pregs. I have had to wear the super thick medical support hose to even function. My legs ache so bad if I don't wear them during preg. I noticed after I delivered #7 on the back of my rt. knee it was buldging really bad and very painful. Took a good 2 wks for it to go away. Only time my legs ache now is when I am about to start my monthly and sometimes after I have intercourse.

My question is are there any serious problems that these veins could cause if I get pregnant again? My husband and I have never used any form of bc, except once after a miscarry, and now. He sees how they always are watching my legs during preg., and said he didn't think he could live with himself if something were to happen and we could have prevented it. With my last 2 preg. also my iron totally drops out and I get iron deficiancy anemia and have to take iron pills to funcion. This goes away after I deliver. I have had no other problems with health or deliveries other than these two things. Have tried to research this and can't really find much on the risks of the veins during pregnancy. I know there is a risk of a clot forming and heading to the heart, but what are the possibilities of that happening? Can't find any answers. It bothers me using bc, but I don't want to not be here for my 7 and my hubby!
What do you think?

I had a similar problem. As I prayed, the scripture in Jeremiah jumped out at me- “I am watching over My word to perform it”. I took that to mean His word about healing too- “bless the Lord oh my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your sins, and heals all your diseases.
I am believing with you for your body to be whole.

I have had 2 children and developed varicose veins. After searching the entire Tampa Bay area, I found an excellent doctor at the Vein Center of Tampa Bay. Dr. Hunt performed the latest advanced procedure, foam sclerotherapy and my results were AMAZING! Make sure you do your research and find the most qualified doctor in your area because I have heard some horror stories.
