Morning After Pill Side Effects

I’ve been having the same problem. I took the morning after pill within 72 hours. Right now it’s been 9 days and I still have abdominal pain and occational back ache. I’ve been reading trying to figure out what wrong and so far my symyoms are matched with ectopic pregnancy. I’m not 100% sure but you should read up on that. I’m still not sure if this is normal and I would really appriciate any comments on this. I’m really worried.

About four days ago I took the morning after pill and have been experiencing the same discomforts. My back is very sore on the left side and I also have abdominal pain. I am not sure whether this is normal and have recently made an appointment with my gynocologist. It comforts me to know that other women are having similar symptoms and these uncomfortable side-effects may be normal.

I took the morning after pill 4 days ago and i am still suffering from abdominal pain i feel pressure on my abdomen giving me an urge to pass urine. I also have noticed some vaginal spotting ( little bit of blood). I don’t know if this is normal and how long it should go on for, everyone i know has never experienced these symptonms.

A week after taking the morning after pill (2 pills taken within 12 hours) I was fine, but after a week, I started menstruating, with bloating, discomfort, breast tenderness and lower back pain. It’s now the 12th day of bleeding, no clots, but enough blood to say I have a medium to heavy period each day.

i was planning on going to the dr tomorrow to get the pill, i had unprotected sex about 20 hours ago and my boyfriend for some reason is very worried about it this time, I am more worried too because he has never acted liek this before…but after reading all of this i dont think i want to take it…I am very sensitive to pain and cramps and sont know if i can take two weeks of a period..I just dont know what to do now…..

I took Plan B about 10 days ago, and 4 days later, I have been having very bad cramping, backaches, and my breasts are very tender, they kind of hurt. I have been spotting, this dark brown-orange color since. After reading all of the previous comments, maybe these are just “normal” side effects?

I took the pill yesterday, and fully expect to suffer some of these symptoms. I always find taking the pill causes me to get period cramps, spotting, sore breasts and a really low depressed feeling for sometimes as much as two weeks. It isn’t usually too painful to cope with, it just feels like my regular period cramps only at the wrong time of the month. I guess if it hurts a lot you should talk to your doctor. I always get morning sickness when I take the pill as well – really frightening if you think you might be pregnant, but apparently also a side effect of the pill. Not a lot of women get these side effects, so the drug company doesn’t consider them ‘normal’ side effects. This happens to me every time I take the pill, so I guess it is ‘normal’ for me.

This month my period came a week early, im usually never early or late so i dont know why this happened it lasted a week! I took the morning after pill 2 weeks ago.After coming home from a holiday I got I believe my period but it was dark very brown with light tummy cramps.Weird thing is I had my proper period on the 8th feb.So having 2 periods at the same month is weird right?? I have taken the morning after pill twice now and my period is always late-not good when that is what you are waiting for, plus i get sore breasts, bloating and feel very emotional and depressed I’m pleased that this seems to be a normal reaction, the general advice from chemists seems to be that it will have no effect on your body or mood, i think this is very misleading especially as the symptoms experiences can be attributed to pregnancy

I took the morning after pill on sunday 2 hours after having sex with my boyfriend, we used a condom but the condom got stuck up there a little but I pulled it out straight away and everything was ok, but when I went to take the other pill I lost it, so I only took one pill. I am feeling a little sick today, and I am worried it is beacause I didn’t take the other pill. i took the morning after pill on friday night i had finished my period that thursday started bleeding on the monday and it started off light every now and again but now its heavy and feelslike a normal period i have no stomach cramps, i had did feel sick on saturday but was not actually sick…. is this whats supposed to happen is this just my period again because i took the pill….. its kinda scary because it feels wierd like not a normal period please comment am i the only one is this supposed to happen)

I took the pill almost two weeks ago. it is feb. 16 and i was supposed to get mine on the feb.2, but i took the pill on that day and it never came. i was having sex with my boyfriend and after we did it, he went to pull out and the condom was still inside me, i pulled it out, but i was scared i got some in me, so i went and got the pill. My period does come about 3-4 weeks late normally, but it is scary to think of what could happen. i haven’t been sick and have only had a little discomfort in my lower area. Please comment. I don’t think i am pregnant, but there is always a chance.

hello i took the two pills 12 hours apart and since then i have not had backache or anything just wierd bleeding and yes zome blood clots type but mostly a wierd brown discharge. i don’t have time to go to the doctors unless it’s serious can anyone give me some ideas as to what it could be or why it is still happening after 2 weeks

I took the pill 4 days ago and my period ended 5 days before taking the EC pill.I am now experiencing abdominal pain that is unusal to cramps because I don’t normally get cramps during my period, and now started bleeding? From reading all these comments it appears to be normal? would it be possible i have aborded a fetus? according to the normal biological cycle I am considered safe of conceiving 5 days after my last period and taking the pill 10 hrs after having sex where the condom broke? please comment..i would appreciate some comfort.

I took the pill about 2 weeks ago and 6 days after i took the pill my period started and it was on the day that it should have. Well it’s been about 6 days after my period and my boobs still hurt and i just started to bleed a little again. Is this a sign i could be prgnant or is it because of the pills? If you have considerable bleeding you are not pregnant. Your period may show up a week early or late and will be considerably worse. Another method you can resort to is having an IUD implanted by your doctor within 72 hours (I think). Trust me these methods are better than the alternatives. Hang in there!

I took the Morning After Pill and started my period a week later; my period lasted for 3 weeks! A month has passed and I am on my next period and it is going on the 7th day and I passed a big clot that looked like a damn miscarriage. I am very worried; I hope it all goes away soon. I also have fibroids, so I wasn’t sure if that was the problem. I am very grateful for all of the info shared by others because now I understand that all of my symptoms fit the criteria of the Morning After Pill side effects! I took the pill March 28th. 3 days after conception. It is now April 22. My side affects are really taking their toll! I felt dizziness and abdominal cramping the first coupld days. I felt hungrier than usual.. has anyone else experianced that?!? I got my period April 8th about 2 weeks after the pill. Its been almost a month now since i took the pill. Im very worried. Could i be pregnant any way? I will take a home pregnancy test this week. I took the pill March 23rd after my boyfriend and I had sex when the condom broke during climax. Two weeks later I had severe cramping with a period which lasted twice as long as usual. I’m now experiencing headaches, dizziness, and nausea on a frequent basis. I have a similar incident as the previous comment. Is this perhaps only coincidence that we have experienced the same side effects?

I took the pill on wendsday april the 25th. But now im gettin worried becuase the side affects are bad. I get nausea and sometimes i get dizzy but the thing that is killing me is the stomach pains. I dont have lower stomach pains but just stomach pain. My period hasnt come but im expecting it in 2 weeks. I know im not pregnant but the side affects are horrible. its been 5 days allready. I’ve taken the morning after pill about 3 times now and never had any reactions until this time. Now, I seem to be having a period only a week after my last one….is this nothing but a side effect? Am I right in thinking a considerable amount of blood means you are not pregnant??

I had my period a week later (2 weeks earlier than i was due) and had stomach cramps and back pains. i too feel unusually hungry all the time and i have started to have quite a bit of brown discharge and some blood 3 days after my period has stopped. Im only 17 and im bricking it because of the paranoia of pregnancy.

I took Plan B within 12 hours of what may have been unprotected sex, but darn that booze, I don’t know if we really did it or just messed around and he didn’t finish…alcohol is good at impairing THAT too.
Took pills 13 hours apart 11 days ago. Had some spotting, major emotional crises every day, major gas and appetite. And super tired.

i took the morning after pill 6 days ago and since then i have been having alot of pain. ive also been experiancing, little lumps of blood, viginal discomfort, stomach aches and its very painful when i urinate.
i dont know if this is normal and the symptoms sound like chlamidia :s, but i know for a fact thats its not (luckily)

i had sex on my fertile day… he pulled out but i got paranoid, i took the morning after pill and 8 days after i took it ( a week early for my period) , i bled out and soaked up 2 pads no clots. then a week later after the bleeding, which was where im supposed to have my period, i bled out again. 2 pad with the same amount of blood and color red. I freaked out at the first bleeding. Ive been trying HPT’s but all are negative – 14,19,21,23,28,and33 DPO. i even had ultrasound on 24DPO, doc says my lining was thin and she didnt see any embryo. IM STILL PARANOID. can anybody please comment on this. Can I STILL be pregnant? the hardest part is to convince myself. i need help. bad– and FYI, hes not my bf so dont want to have a kid from him.

Hey all, I took the morning after pill about a month ago now.. I took it on the 12th about 14 hrs after unprotected sex(which i am not quite sure if the deed was finished or not, the night was kinda a blur) but he is not my bf and wouldn’t want a child to him so we both decided i get the pill. i took the morning after pill 5 weeks ago. i got my period 3 weeks later (1 week early) and it’s been 2 weeks now and i am still bleeding. i’m not really sure if it is even my period because it has been so light, it hasn’t peaked like it usually does where i will have a couple of heavy days towards the beginning. its just been a constant dribbling of blood. its making me worried because it’s been 14 days today and just when i think it’s going to stop, it doesn’t. has this happened to anyone else?

I had unprotected sex on Jun 9th 2007. I took the the 2nd pill on the 11th of the same month. Now, Its July 3rd, and the main side affects I still get is the tender breasts. but I am concerned that I have not received my menstrual cycle yet. I should’ve gotten it on June 25th. The ends of the month are usually my time of the month. Should I be concerned that I haven’t gotten my period? Or is this also a side effect?

I took the Morning After Pill four days ago and I haven’t experienced any vomiting, nausea, no bleeding or anything. Just some weird smell when I use the bathroom. I haven’t heard of anyone with this side effect and I can’t realize if its the pill working from all the chemicals or not… Ahh!!

im having some of the same problems as most of the other women on here i took the pill 2 days ago and im MISREABLE i feel the urge to pee all the time and it STINGS when i do , i went to a clinic for a pee test for stds and im waiting for the results

I took the morning after pill 72 hours after unprotected sex. 9 days later i experienced itching(like frm a yeast infection) and then a blood like discharge. My breast are tender like my period is coming and i feel bloated..my legs/feet are soar/swollen. The discharge went away after 2-3 days…but my breast are still tender and my legs and feet are still feel a bit achey…Is this normal?

hi i took the morning after pill on last week and my menstruation started 10days early this week.it is not associated with the severe stomach cramp which i generally have during my regular cycle and the blood release is really less, and instead of blood i’m passing blood clots.is it normal?

You ladies could really mess up your bodies like this with using that morning after pill all the time. If your going to be having intercourse like that then you should really get the birth control shot or tell your partner to strap up or get lost. But even those can break so get on the shot.

i had unprotected sex on tues. night. took the 1st pill friday morning and the last friday night (i was late taking it cause i didnt know it was OTC yet) but anyway, i started my period 3 days early.. i am having a very irregular period and stomach pain and bloating… my period is usually thicker, darker blood and usually has more clots in it and this time its like water and there alot of it.. for the last 4 days, ive been heavy heavy bleeding but its so thin and watery.. ive been worried something is wrong where i took it the 3rd day maybe it didnt work.. been feeling nausea too… not a good feeling.. its good to know im not the only one whos having trouble though.. dr gets in at 10am and im calling her then… good luck to everyone..

Well, ever since I have taken the orning after pill, I have been experiencing irregular periods. I mean, I had my period and a week later I had to take the morning after pill, and a week later, I started to bleed again. So I had my period, and two weeks later, I had it again, but I had no cramps or any pains that go with a period, so I am really confused. And this happen a couple of times. I mean when I bleed two weeks after having my period, it only lasted two days, then it happen again, a week later, for two day again. Now it is around the time when I am suppose to have my realy period and it has not come yet. So I am wondering fi that was considered my period.

I took the pills 8 weeks ago… I still haven’t started my period… I took a home pregnancy test & it came out negative. I went to the doctor and another test came out negative. I feel nauseated and have no clue if I’m pregnant. At this point, I’d rather be pregnant than have something else wrong.

After taking Levonelle, I experienced tiredness, morning sickness, breast tenderness, excessive salivation and my nipples secreted a kind of wierd waxy stuff. I asked a pharmacist if this was all normal, but he only knows what the companies tell him.

The company information about side effects is very vague and I believe this is for marketing purposes. If we knew how sick it would make us, we would be less likely to buy their over-priced products!

I’ve taken this pill once and I will never EVER taken it again. My body is SO screwed up!

I took the pill back in the end of March of 07. I had a very heavy period with lots of clotting a couple of weeks later that lasted 2 1/2 weeks. I didn’t have any nausea or back pain like that has been mentioned here though. The period lasted from end of April through Mothers Day weekend (which is in MAY). I did not have another period until September of 07 that lasted for almost 2 weeks of heavy bleeding and passing clots. It’s now the middle of January of 08 and still have not had a cycle since Sept. All of my tests I’ve taken (home and at the health clinic) have been negative for pregnancy. I need to get an appt with my gynecologist, but have any of you experienced LACK of periods as a side effect with this pill?

i took the MAP yesterday. so far i haven’t had any of these symptoms. i fear of them!!! my periods are always so jacked up anyways!! so i really don’t look forward to any of the cramping, clotting, vomitting, etc.. hope everyone that has commented bad side effects are ok.

Well, here is mine – my girlfriend has been on the pill for the past year. She forgot to take her very last pill on time before the 7 day break period. She took the pill 15 hours after her regular time.

Unfortunately, she did not read the instructions properly and went straight onto her 7 day break. We had full intercourse on the Sunday and we felt it better to get the morning after pill which she took 6 hours later. It is now Tuesday and she is suffering from very bad lower right side abdominal and back pain. I hope to god she is not pregnant.

However, from reading all of the above comments, it looks like this is quite a regular side effect.

Hey, i took the morning after pill 5 hours after un-protected sex two pills 12 hours apart. i had my period one week before taking the pill. And one week after taking the pill my period is back. I have sore cramps and weird discolouring of blood, I am a month early. I am really scared because my period has never been early. Please can anyone advise me?

I TOOK MORNING AFTER PILL THE FOLLOWING DAY AND I HAD MY PERIOTS BUT AFTER THAT MY STOMUCH IS FULL OF GAS AND I HAV CRAMPS AND SOMETIMES I FEEL NOSIUS IS THIS NORMAL.

with regards to plan b based on clinical trials side effects experienced include nausea(23%), abdominal pain(18%), fatigue(17%), headache(17%), breast tenderness(10%), and menstrual changes. also states that possibility of menstrual pattern irregularity is increased with use of these pills. “If there is a delay in the onset of menses beyond 1 week, the possibility of pregnancy should be considered.” menstrual periods can also come a week earlier than expected. This is my summary of the context i read from the little paper that came with the pills. consult your doctor if you have any other concerns. hope this helps. all copyright credit goes to dura-med

addendum: webmd.com also suggests that common side effects(of plan B) such as abnormally long or heavy periods, bleeding not to related menstrual period, high blood sugar -to which all can occur to a severe extent- may be experienced. also, consider that what you are taking are synthetic forms of hormones, these things can cause an imbalance in your normal hormone levels. each experience is individualized so the effects abate at different rates. my advice is: if there is anything that causes you too much distress as to negatively affect your daily mental and physical functions, seek medical advice(doctor or advice nurse). abstinence is still the best form of prevention/safe sex. hope this helps.

Okay – I really need some advice and input at the moment.

Heres what happened:

On January 2nd 2008, i had my period. it lasted 5 days as normal. the bleeding was normal.

on February 1st (friday), it was day one of my next period. the first day of my cycle is always light, so my boyfriend and i had sex anyhow.

the condom came off, and he came inside me. we immediately went to the chemist and had the MAP within an hour of the sex. and then again 12 hours later.

now – whats concerning me is that it has been 4-5 days, and i should be bleeding heavily from my period: BUT – i havent bled at all!!! I had about 8 drops of blood on the first day, but then nothing at all after that!!

Whats happening to me?

i called the company that makes the pregnancy tests called “first response” and they told me that i had to wait 9 days after the sex, before i can test my self using the “in-stream” tests OR 14 days before i can use the “dip-it in a cup of pee” test, so to speak.

i know that testing myself this early is a waste of time – as apparently the egg doesnt get fertilised until 9-14 days after sex.

can anybody please help me? id like to know if anyone has experienced this.

i had unprotected sex with my boyfriend on my 14th (peak) fertile day so i took plan b on the same day (and the 2nd pill 12 hours later). i wasn’t nauseated or fatigued but i had to sleep off a headache the next day and my breasts have been tender since.
it’s been 10 days since i got my period, which would normally last for only 4-5 days. i don’t get clots but it’s been a light/medium bleeding since saturday. i’ve recently gotten abdominal cramps.

I taken the pill Jan 11,2008 and the 12th. The first few days was fine.. Even a few weeks later. I got my cycle but it was a few days late, now I am experiencing horrible stomach pains, tender breast and my menstrual is screwed up. I feel like I am having a miscarriage at times. I took the morning after pill (plan b) about 6 days ago and now i am bleeding as if i am having my period again, but i just finished my period like 4 days before i took the pill. Could this mean that i am pregnant or is it just the way that the pill works?

I took Lovell on Saturday 9th Feb night after an accident on Thurs 7th Feb afternoon. Since Sunday I have had light bleeding of a brown colour and the most horrendous cramps.. this has been going on for 5 days after taking the morning after pill. I was due for period, but sore boobs have gone, in replace I have dizziness, cramps, and tiredness all the time, how long does this last after taking the pill?

Here is my story
I had my last period on 25 January
On the 3rd February I had sex with my bf and the stupid condom slipped, he didn’t finish but is still was worried and next day I took a morning pill, and no side effects.
Then on 5th he had sex again and this time the condom broke. You see that I am unlucky. The same day within one hour I took another morning pill. And again no side effects right away. I know that this two pills must really mess up with my menstrual cycle. By the way I took levonorgestrel in a dose of 1.5 mg
I should start my period on 21st February. But on 14th I had some weird bleeding, today 15th I still have this bleeding. I don’t know if this I my period or it is the implantation bleeding. I hope it is my period, and that I am not pregnant.
But I see that many women and girls wrote here that they had bleeding, so I guess this is ok. I also my boobs hurt pretty badly for 5 days, I am tired and pretty sick, but I didn’t throw up yet. Anyway I am sill waiting some days and I will take a pregnancy test. I promise I will write again and tell you what happened.

So I had unprotected sex with my on and off again partner… We were basically just getting started, when he barely put it in, and then climaxed a moment later.. It all happened so quick.. I was just reaching for the condom. Anyway, I panicked all night, then ran to target about 12 hours later and took Plan b, as directed… It’s been an extremely rough week…I’ve experienced fatique, cramps daily, a head ache here and there, loss of appetite, chills, shakiness, anxiety, sharp abdominal pains, gas… Not a single bit of spotting, until today. It’s been 8 days, and I started my period… Thank GOD!!! All I can say is I’m pretty sure all is well.. But Plan B is definately hardcore stuff. Another update…

I posted a statement a few weeks again.. Everything I experienced is not as bad. All my horrible pains are gone.. But my concern is the bleeding.. I stopped bleeding for a few days and boy was I lucky.. After a week went by, I started bleeding all over again and here comes the cramps and bloating and very bad gas.. I am so tired of this, if I knew this would have taken my ody through all these changes I would hve never consumed the pill.. I always had a regular menstrual, lasting for only 3-4 days and now bleeding for days and weeks at a time, makes me feel very disgusting and I have no control over it.. Can anyone please tell me how long have they been bleeding since consuming the pill…

I had unprotected w/my boyfriend on Feb. 3rd. Took Plan B. I was scheduled to get my period, 1 week later and I just spotted. The week after that, Feb 17th, I got my period. I would think that taking a pill that’s designed to terminate a possible pregnancy would of course be filled with side effects. If you’re that worried, take better precautions.

I too took the MAP on the 1st day after UP Intercourse, 5 days later, I too started spotting, accompanied with headaches, feeling sick, pains, dizyness and breast tenderness. about 14 days ago i had PROTECTED sex with my boyfriend, but still used the day after pill because we both get very paranoid about pregnancy. i got my period a week after i took the pill but the period only lasted 2 days (which is weird to me, i think). the day after my period i started my first pack of yaz birth control pills and my boyfriend and i kind of fooled around and PREcum may have gotten on my vagina, but he for sure did not go inside at all. but 3 days after this happened i have been feeling pregnant. i have been having very bad low back pains, and pretty nauseous.. do any of you think i have anything to worry about, or am i just being paranoid? please answer, thank you guys. btw all ur posts are making me feel a lot better that im not the only one out there like this

I took the morning after pill last tuesday after the condom split on the sunday. THis morning (monday) i started to get really dark blood, with black clots in it! i was scared that i may still have been pregnant after taking the pill and had a miscarriage, thankfully i have read people’s comments on here and i am pretty sure that it’s just the pill thats making me bleed. i took the morning after pill about a week and half ago and i’ve had the most intense cramps of my life. I haven’t had any spotting or breast tenderness or any of the other syptoms, just horrible, horrible cramps. I don’t have a doctor and can’t afford to go to one. What do I do?

My period is 3 weeks late. I am 40 years old and my period is always every 28 to 29 days. I had unprotected sex on April 10th which was right after my period so should have been an infertile time but I took the morning after pill 12 hours later just the same.

Could I be pregnant and still getting negative results?

I’ve ben having lots of symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, chills, shortness of breath, swollen eyes…) and also night sweats. Has anyone passed through this? It’s been almost 3 weeks since I took plan B. I am 39, I took the pills 12 hours after unprotected sex and no immediate bleeding like the pharmacist said there would be. I got my next period 2 days earlier than usual and have now been bleeding 19 days. Not a normal flow… it is an unusual brown/pink colour, chunky and clotty. Might use my brains a bit more next time…

Yes,after having ipill on 4th June 08,I got my periods.Even after my periods, I get night sweat,breathing becomes fast and terrible anxiety sometimes.
Its all because of the hormone according to my doctor.
It might stay for 1-4 months.
My doctor said this pills contain heavy dose of hormones and it starts acting weird.

I’ve taken Plan B like six times within the past two months. My last period was during the end of May. I’ve taken two at home pregnancy tests and they both came out negative. I took Plan B on June 10th. Had my period twice that month. It is now July 28th, and I still haven’t gotten my period. I know I’m not pregnant because I have no symptoms of anything. To everyone else, I’ve taken the morning after pill twice now after the condom had split. The syptoms most people are describing are pretty normal and are pretty horrible and your cycle may be messed up for a while, but trust me they do go away and you do get a normal cycle again. Of course if it’s worrying you or your symptoms have lasted a while I would speak to your doctor.

I was using contraception pills, but decided to have a break, because i went overseas. While being there, i didn’t finish the whole course of pills, stopped taking them approximately in the middle of the pack. My periods started earlier. Then i had an accident with my bfriend on 1st of August and next morning took a morning after pill… Today is 7th of August and my periods suppose to come, but instead for last 4 days i have the pains which feel like monthly pains, but there is no menstruation still…. Im pretty sure im not pregnant as i’ve allready had a period and looking at the other comments everyone has left it looks like this may be quite a normal. i just hope this spotting doesnt last too long.

I took the day after pill on the 26 and now its ben 3 weeks. I been having spotting bleeding. though I notice it only when I wipe. I am expected to have my next pireod on the 21 or 24. Is it normal for wipe little dots of blood?

Hey. After having very drunken sex with not a regular partner nearly 3 week ago, i took the emergency pill as soon as the chemist open the morning after. Since then about a week later i had what i thought was a period, but it was only light and lasted 2 days. After only jus finishing my period the day before the incident i thought this was rather strange. My next period is due on saturday, and i’ve been having servere stomache cramps since monday? I’m now beginning to stress as i don’t really understand the whole light period thing. Being only 16, it was one stupid silly mistake, which i regret. I’ve decided that if i don’t come on by the weekend then i’m going to take a pregnancy test anyway. I’ll keep u posted. If anybody’s had any of the similar symptons, please feel free to let me know. after having unprotected sex with a friend of mines (very silly of me)…i got the MAP 25hours later..i was told only about some nausea within 3hours of ingestion..nothing else..that evening i felt fine till about 1am(way passed the 3hour marker) i felt the urge to vomit and dizziness and a fever going hot to cold…having never taken the MAP before i just want to know its not something serious….its now 28hours after taken the pill and i still have the same symptoms but noticing my back is starting to hurt the constant need to pass urine but nothings being passed and im hungry but unable to eat at all….i noticed some of these symptoms seem to be a normal thing…but the rest is it just me being over worried and stressed or is this also a side effect…any help would be gratefully appreciated….thanks..x

i took the morning after pill 9 hrs after unprotected sex. and then a couple hours later got really bad dihorea. i was meant to take the next pill at 1 am 12 hrs later, my alarm didnt go off and i took it at 5 am. i have fatigue and vomiting and nausea..what does this mean?

I used to be on a regular form of birth control and use condoms as a backup method. But i stopped taking them about a year ago after having bad side effects from them. I have had PROTECTED sex with my boyfriend three times in the last month and becasue I have such a fear of getting pregnant decided to take the morning after pill each time. Now I am spotting and I just ended my last period a week ago. I am freaking out right now becasue I am scared that using them that much may cause serious long term medical problems. I am never taking this pill again becasue I am sooo scared of what it may do to you. Has anyone else taken it often regularly and experienced any problems??

I had sex on Aug. 8 (my fertile peak) and I don’t think he came in me but I dont want to take any chances. I took the pill on Aug. 15th (Didn’t think about this pill until I started freaking) I don’t know if it is going to work or not but I have taken the pill and my breast seem a bit tender but they also seem to have shrunk. My cycle is due to start on Aug. 23th. I haven’t had any of the symptoms anyone else seems to have and it has been 6 days. I have no idea what will happen. my first time taking the pill (Plan B) was about a month ago and i did not experience any of this side effects that ya ladies say to have.i got my period a week after and it was normal. im so thankful. but i think that the reason that some women have those severe side effects is because maybe ya take the pills as a routine birth control and it is for emergencies only, it says right there on the box, that you should not make it a routine to take the pill everytime your partner nuts inside you. also it clearly has the side effects printed on the back so it is just normal.

Ive taken the morning after pill within 48 its been a little over a week and im heavy bright bleeding, looks like blood clots as well, and sick to my stomach!

umm.. i took that pill 5 days ago 19 or 18 hours after the incident. my bf thinks i’m not since we used a spermicidal condom but it ripped. he didn’t come though and we did it 5 days after my period stopped. everything was fine after 3 days but then i got an immunization shot for tetanus. and now i’m worried that the shot would somehow coincide with the pill and make it not work. i’m so scared that i am pregnant now. now after 7 days, i’m bleeding. i’m not sure if it’s implantation bleeding. i’m so scared.. someone please help me.

I got my period normally in july and then the condom broke the day after my period ended…so i took the day after pill 2 days later….i then got my period from the pill a week later….liek usuall…so that all was fine…but now its been 27 days and i havent gotten my period again….Ive had sex inbetweeen but there havent been any problems…does it usually take long to get ur period after u take the pilll??

I took a morning after pill some time in june, and I never had any symptoms from it, I had my period as normal about 2 weeks later. A week after my period, I started my period again… It was normal lasted 3 to 4 days as usual, how ever 2 days after my period was over, my boyfriend came in me!! PUNK! So I took another morning after pill, I know its not good to take them like that, but I had no other choice. Its been almost 2 months and I have not had my period??…. I have had some stomach pains that left me crying all night long, and lower back pain; i have taken 4 prego test and they came back negative….What do you suggest? Plz need advice?!??!!

My husband and I had a slight accident after a night out, and we have a 9 months old so we are not ready for baby # two yet…so I took the 72 hour pill july 20th I got my period a weeka nd a half later, it’s now September 15th and I have yet to get it again. I am still having lower back pain and lower abdomen pain occasionally…I have taken several preg. test and they were all negitive, I am hoping that this is normal and there is nothing wrong with me, if I am prego then great we will just deal with having onther baby…but I just hope its nothing serious..Help!

I took the morning after pill two weeks ago and got my period a week early but it was more like spotting not my normal period and only a little discomfort in my abdominal area (normally I have very heavy period with very uncomfortable abdominal pain). my menstrual cycle (which was perfect before the damn pill) is totally disturbed. i had periods after 4 days of taking the morning after pill. 2 days – then – just two drops the next month – that too, quite late. again, two drops – the month after that – again later than the previous month…the third month, now running – no periods! i have gone mad. done three preg tests – all negative! It seems to me that we have so many questions that no one is answering. I am experiencing the non stop bleeding and abdominal pain as well. I finally called the Plan B information line and they told me that wasn’t my period since I just had one a week and a half ago. They said all you can do is wait until you’re supposed to have your next period. Apparently the only way to know for sure if the drug was effective is if you get your next period.

I just wanted to take some of the fear away for some people. I had no side effects at all from the morning after pill. I scared myself silly reading all these comments before I took it. I had a normal period, 3 days later than normal.
The doctors told me there is no normal reaction, some people get a heavy period straight after and some people dont, some people feel sick, others dont..
But going to a doctors, sexual health clinic or something really helped me answer those questions and to get tested for STD’s etc.

Took the Levonelle one step pill nearly two weeks ago. 2 hours later I had moderate cramps for a few hours and have had mild cramps and the occasional sharp pain nearly every day. Had breast tenderness for a few days and felt hungrier as well. Took it a couple of years ago and don’t remember having all these side effects, have been lucky though cos I haven’t felt sick off either of them. It’s comforting to know that it’s not just me experiencing side effects – the company that makes it is grossly misadvertising these.

my friend told me that you were only suppose to take one pill, but i was given two by my doctors, and it been 5 days and all day today and some of yesterday i have fell like throughing up but cant.

and i had read most of the comment above and out of all of them i only found one that has the common side affect as me, the thing that really scards me is that i havent experanced any bleeding of anykind, just sick to the stomic.

I took the 1st pill of the plan B and now 6 hours later I have been having pain while urinating and always feeling the need to go and worst of all there is blood in my urine. I am totally freaking out and i saw others had similar side effects and i just want to know how long this is going to last because i am going absolutly insane. Please HELP!

I took the morning after pill almost 3 weeks ago. About 4 days after taking it I had a small cycle with few cramp. Now it is the time that I really should be starting my cycle I feel bloated, I have pain in my upper abdomen, I fell sick at the stomach daily, I get terrible headaches, and I am way too emotional up and down with happiness and sadness. I am really starting to worry.

I took levonelle about a month ago and since then have had 3 heavy periods? with painful cramps and blood clots. Never had any problems with my period before. Will never take this again.

My daughter took the morning after pill in Sept and had a period Oct1 to 5. Suddenly she started bleeding again Oct 17. She has always been very regular (almost always to the day). She bleed lightly for the fist day, stopped completely the next, and on the third day started bleeding so heavily she went through a pad and tampon every hour for about 12 hours. She was very pale and weak so called the doctor. Her gynogologist said this is normal side effects for the morning after pill and can last up to three months after taking it. He still is going to see her this week because she is still bleeding and passing nickel size clots on a regular basis.

FYI I was also took by the gynogolist the only was to know if your symptoms are from a early miscarrage (spontainous abortion) or etopic pregnacy is by a blood pregnacy test. (some health clinics will do this for free even for minors). She also has very black colored blood which I was told is also quite normal. I will let you all know if he is going to do a D & C to rid the clots or just have her douche occasionally and ride it out for months.

I took the morning after pill in the early part of october, i took the two pills at the same time. A week after my period came,about two days after my period was finished i had to take the morning after pill again…and i took the both pills at the same time…i had rough sex a few days after and now im bleeding which looks like my period again. I’m a little nervous cuz i took the pill exactly 24 hours after unprotected sex and the nurse told me to take both pills at the same time. I took them last nite and I had a few craps about an hour after and since that I haven’t had any other pain or discomfort. I do pee like every hour and its not yellow its clear like water.

But I’m nervous, does this mean that the pills aren’t working? Usually the EC pills cause discomfort and pain but I’m not getting any!

I took the MAP the day after I had sex. This was the last weekend of october. I took both pills at the same time. I felt sick a few hours later but it passed. only a few days later i woke up and felt like hell. I took the pill Nov 10, 27 hrs after having unprotected sex. After taking the first pill I begun to have symptoms of a unrinary tract infection, and a yeast infection. Then 6 days later my cycle started for the second time this month. I am having a breast reduction surgery thursday, will this affect my pending procedure?

Exactly one week later I my cycle came with these huge blood clots and very heavy bleeding. then I started having extreme stomach pains the worst I have ever experience. Diarreah and I became very nauseated and vomiting, now a new symptom has arrived a very bad headache. This pill has some horrible side effects and I will never take it again. Do anyone know how long these symptoms will last.

i have heard the symptoms could last up to 3 months…i haven’t got my period yet..not supposed to for a few more days..but i hope i wont have nothin like that..i cant believe just because we dont want to get pregnant..we slip up once..they make a pill that mess you up something firece…its horrible

unfortunately i have had to take the morning pill several times over the years as i can’t seem to be able to take normal contraception. i normally wouldn’t post anything like this but after reading all the bad affects people have, i must report that mine have always been rather mild, no problems. however this time my breasts are very sore & much bigger after taking the pills two weeks ago. i hope its not pregnancy as i had a normal period around the normal time. anyway will take a test tomorrow.

I must say, i have taken the MAP probably 2 times previously and the only symptom I have experienced in the past is probably having 2 periods in one month. I have not experienced any pain, or sickness/nausea, headaches etc. But this time is definately different. I am still experiencing nausea which to me seems like morning sickness. I went to the doctors today and they took blood from me. I should get my results on Monday. How unlucky can a person be to use condoms and the MAP and still get pregnant.

I took the morning after pill this morning, and I’ve experienced slight minor discomfort in my back (very slight) and slight discomfort in my stomach too. I took Plan B for the 4th time in about 7 years. The first time, I either got sick from the first pill or was scared to get sick from the second and got pregnant! I’ve taken it a couple other times just to be on the safe side. In Sept. I honestly felt like I had morning sickness the morning after sex which lasted the 3 days until I took the pill…I haven’t felt that way, well, since I was pregnant! I had a strong feeling I would become pregnant and didn’t want to take it but my partner wanted me to so I did. I took it just about at the 72 hr mark…not sure if I made it or not. Once I took it, the “morning sickness” feelings went away. However, when I’ve taken Plan B before, I never cramped, clotted, spotted and always got my period on time. This last time nothing happened until a week later (btw…we had sex 2-3 days after I ended my period). I started having a weird color bleeding or spotting (very light, no pad). I woke up one morning with a tiny red blob in my panties. Another day I had a long dark black “string”. I continued to have weird color “spotting” and the people at Plan B had no answers. I started my period about 4 days early. Apparently my cycle got screwed up and I got pregnant the next month a week before my “Plan B” cycle period was due (well, we had sex a week before then). I got a faint line at 9 days post sex and positives at 12 days. I believe the pregnancy was meant to be (both times) but i am now going through a miscarriage and the things I’ve seen resemble what I experienced after taking Plan B but on a larger scale. I now believe either I miscarried naturally REALLY early or Plan B had something to do with it (I tend to think the latter). I think there must be some point (maybe just as the fertilized egg is implanting) that Plan B will cause an early miscarriage. I’m suffering massively, but mainly from my actual, confirmed pregnancy because I don’t know when I or if I will get the chance to become pregnant again and I was soooooo ready to become pregnant again that I had sensed it about a month prior to Plan B. I will say that after Plan B, I was sad as though I’d lost my baby and I’d never had those feelings before from taking those pills. Just as I felt I was going to get pregnant and that I’d lost a baby, this time I strongly believe I was to have a boy- I had NO morning sickness but had cramping…which I’ve never had with prior pregnancy or even with periods. Anyway, I’ve always felt that there is just NO WAY you would know if you were to get pregnant or not so I never understood the controversy with the Plan B pill but I do now think it can cause early miscarriage in SOME situations. Hi everyone. i have been reading the comments and i wuld also like to know how long the side effects of the emergency contraceptive pill last.i took it 5 weeks ago and still feel really pooly. my doctor says this is normal but how long will it last? i have all the classic pregnancy symptoms but urine and blood tests are negative and i have been bleeding and clotting. i just want it all to stop, i have even been lactating milk from my nipples. anyone had these symptoms and how long did it last?

Please take a pregnancy test. I was on birth control for five years and used condoms all the time. I was extremely adamant about not getting pregnant. I took the morning after pill the day after my boyfriends condom broke and experienced many of the same symptoms you women are all having. Turns out the morning after pill did not work. i took the morning after pill on Nov 28th about 7 hours after unprotected sex with my boyfriend. The following morning the 2nd pill was due, minutes after taking it we had unprotected sex again (dumb.. i’m so dumb!) and then again the next morning. (this will NEVER happen again!) After realizing that the pill wouldnt protect from future acts, i freaked out and went and blew another $40 on another set of pills. This time I took both at the same time, about 11 hours after sex. So this is a total of 2 sets of pills within 3 days…
I assumed I would get nausious, maybe bleed a little.. nope. I didnt have any side effects at all. To me that meant it wasnt working and obviously i’ve been freaking out since.
Thank God this morning i got my period, 2 days before it was due! i wonder if i even needed to take that second set of pills.. or the first ones even. But since it was a week after my period, everything I read said that was my ‘prime baby makin’ time so obviously i felt the need to take the pills.
I dont believe i was ovulating when we had unprotected sex, but i do know i was close because about 4 days later i could feel the pinching in my left side from ovulation (that i’ve become so familiar with in my 22 years).

It’s not as heavy as a period but still very annoying, i get back pain, my breasts are very sore and sometimes feel sick. This is the first time that I have taken this pill and i’m never ever taking it again… I have been to the doctor’s so many times and they have put me on birth control pills to try and make the bleeding stop after a blood test confirmed i was not pregnant however it’s still going! Girls i thought i was the only one going through this, i feel your pain and i wish that there was something we can do just to make the bleeding and cramps etc stop now! Hopefully my bleeding stops as I am getting very depressed about it and hope you all will be okay soon too …

OMG!! you all are freaking me out!! I have M.A.P right here beside me, and im wondering if i should really take them. I had UP sex this morning and got this pills tonight. I don’t know man!! So I took the M.A.P around 4 this morning. I know I said I’d do it at 2:30 but I was still too scared. Now it’s 11:50am. I feel fine. I think im feeling discomfort in my tummy but nothing dreadfully painful at the moment. One thing I noticed so far is that im super tired. Im at work right now and I can barely keep my eyes open, luckily being tired has no pain invovled. Im still worried though, I have to take the other set at 4pm….what if then is when the pain will really start?! My plan is to drink Ginger Ale and eat crackers, I heard that helps the the nausea. OMG guys! I’m totally freaked out after reading this! This afternoon (like less than 3 hours ago) I had unprotected sex and my BF got all freaked out and INSISTED that I get a MAP, which he’s NEVER done after ejaculating! I was terrified ’cause about 3 years ago I took one and bleed heavily for 14 days! It’s almost Christmas and I don’t want to go through THAT again! But at the same time, I also don’t want to ahve a BABY right now! So like you, Danielle, I’m going to take that pill! It’s right here beside me! And the most frustrating thing is no one is responding to the dozens of “Is this normal” questions. Hi everyone. I was never able to use hormonal methods of birth control because a) I am anal about what goes into my body and b) just thinking about all the unnecessary hormones circulating through my blood stream. My husband and i have relied quite happily on condoms since we began seeing each other. However, an accident with the condom forced me to the plan B since i am absolutely not ready to be pregnant. As much as i hate it, this was my second time taking the pill. The first time i took it, it was after i had already ovulated for the month and i had ABSOLUTELY NO SIDE EFFECTS. no nausea, no unexpected bleeding. nothing. my period came and went on time. The second time i took the pills ( a week ago) its a different story. It was before i ovulated for the month and needless to say, i unexpectedly started bleeding 5 days after taking the pills. The bleeding is not bad in the sense that its not painful or too heavy, but it IS taking a big emotional toll on me. I feel a constant fatigue and completely alien to my original active self. I have a weird constant discomfort in my lower abdomen and back like ALL the time. I feel severe mood swings. Extremely happy one moment and extremely depressed the next. Its been 3 days since my “unexpected/fake” period started and i feel SO miserable like i have never felt before. But anyway, whats happened has happened. I keep telling myself that my body is strong and it will heal itself. I have been trying to do everything i can in desperation and hopes of getting this whole pill BS over with. I meditate and try to think as positive as i can. I have been trying to eat right (lots of “organic” veggies and fruits). Lots of water and fluids (in hopes of peeing the nasty hormones out) and relying on herbal medications. I found this Asian menstrual support formula that is meant for women experiencing hormonal imbalance due to contraceptives. Will it work? i have no idea but i am just trying to have faith. I looked up on some home remedies to get rid of hormonal imbalance and here’s one- boil coriander seeds in about half liter water and strain the seeds of, drink the water while its still warm (this stuff tastes really REALLY horrible). And finally, i have been praying and promising myself- NEVER AGAIN will i take this pill!… hope this helps and i am a comforted to see that there are other women going through the same thing and i aint alone.

i am worried because i took the after pill a day after i had sex without protection. a week later i notced spotting and it was only for one day why did this happen? please help!!!

Erm…. so… I have taken the morning after pill 12 hours apart and about 4 days after I started to have heavy bleeding. I’ve had slight cramps… and slight back discomfort. I’m just curious to know how long it will last, because I took mine on the 7th day of my menstrual cycle which is about when the uterus lining in building back up and ovulation is about to begin. So does it last a certain time depending on when you took the pill in your menstrual cycle? I know everyone is just saying their symptoms.. but does anyone actually say what’s going on or how long it will last? Because as far as I’ve read.. it has ranged from 2 days to 6 weeks, and that’s a pretty dramatic gap. I’m just hoping this doesn’t last longer than 2 weeks because it is very disturbing. I’ve also been really emotional, crying for the smallest things and not very hungry when I usually am a vacuum cleaner. I hope this goes away sooon, and I can safely say I will never take this darn pill again.

i took plan B an hour after having unprotected sex. and then the second pill 12 hours later.
i haven’t had any vomiting, stomach pains, back pains, none of that.
I just got my period again..The last day of my period was the same day i took the plan b pills.

Answers—-First of all levonelle 1.5mg (for UK) and planB (USA) are very strong progestorone ways to prevent fertilisation. I know I have taken about 7 in 2 years.
If you take the emergancy contraception twice in a cycle it disturbs your period. I had to take it twice this month and had a light period, I’m hoping it is to do with the amount of hormones is in my blood as I had unprotected sex again (3rd time) but started this bleed the night after so figured it’s my messed up period. Hoping it is this as I didn’t take the emergancy contraception for the 3rd time as the pharamacit said I cannot get fertilised as started period. It’s now past the 72 hour window and I’m worried this bleed might have just been spotting from the side effects of levonelle (never had any spotting b4), if it is a side effect then I am not covered for the 3rd instance of unprotected sex. Done a preg test for the previous instances and neg.

Also just to let you know if you have unproteceted sex and then start your period say a day later, you can still get preg. I spoke to a nurse on NHS Direct today (UK service) who said I didn’t need the morning after pill because I just went back on my contraceptive tablet yest (came off it in april) and this will prevent ovulation for januaray’s period so the sperm from sat night (now been in my body for 3 days) cannot fertilise a new egg. THE WARNING if I had not started the reg pill yest then the sperm could fertilise a new egg. So if you have sex then start your period soon, you could still get preg.

Only reason I’m worried even though I spoke to a nurse is this is a really light bleed. It’s only been 2 days but it looks like it’s over and the only reason health advisers have advised me not to go for levonelle is that I’m on a period and now taking the daily pill to stop ovulation. What if they are wrong and this is just spotting.

Here my story, I took the plan B pills in march 2008 spotted for two days (no big deal).A month later in april i got really sick like bad sinus somthing and had started what i thought was my monthly cycle, but about a week early, the bleeding was very heavy, i was changing every half an hour to an hour or if i didnt i soaked my clothes (which had happend a couple of times) even through out the night i would wake up soaked.A few days into the bleeding i started vomiting off in on , i couldent eat, i couldent drink. I was very sick, and had never been sick like this before,EVER! i couldent do anything (i thought i was on my death bed)And thats bad when i have two small children at home that depend on me to take care of them, and i couldent.on the 8th day of bleeding and vomiting and not eating or drinking. i went to the ER. the docter did nothing about the bleeding ,he gave me an iv for dehydration and something for nusia,told me i had cought a bug and sent me home.(B.S.) got home and was still the same,nothing had changed, next day went back to ER saw a diffrent doc. who did a great amount of testing, again was hooked up to iv,givin med. for nusia (which was the strongest they have, it is for those w/cancer to help w/ radiation treatment.)told i might need a blood transfusion due to the amount of blood i lost.the doc had been in touch w/my obgyn and they had put me on birth control pills to stop the bleeding,did work.anyway i was sick for a month due to that plan B.i had taken it one other time and had no problems,but for some reason this time was almost death. heres the thing, we all might think these are normal side effects of plan B, but let me tell you, there is nothing normal about this, as far as i am concerned it should be taken off the market. i am now stuck with all kinds of med. bills and dont have ins. this really sucks. and still to this day i get very dizzy felling around that time of month , for about two weeks.it seems as though i will never be the same again.if you are thinking of taking the plan B, BEWARE!

hie all.I also have most of these discomforts.I took the MAP on 23 nov 2008 and the second dose 12 hours later.my period started 6 days later and lasted for 6 days,normal flow.about 2 weeks later i had these terrible abdominal and lower back pains.then i felt gas and i belch even when i am hungry,i yawn frequently a sign of fatigue. i also suspect that i have constipation.i tested myself twice for pregnancy and the result was negative.I think these pills should be taken off the market.

I took the pill a little over a month ago and I am still yet to start my period. They say the morning after pill can cause early peiords and also delay periods. I’m very concerned at this point. As of now I’m about a week and a half late. Anyone else have this problem

I took the MAP about a week ago after having unprotected sex 20 hrs prior. My symptoms were some of the common ones listed on the label…back aches, strange spotting, headache, cramping….all of these side affects I pretty much anticipated, but what really has frightened me is how it impacted my moods and my over all feeling of self worth. I have experienced depression before at some moderate levels, but this was an extreme low for the last week…it is beginning to fade, but also made me feel afraid, angry, lost…some pretty extreme feelings that I had never experienced. My suggestion would be to NOT take it!!!! there is obviously some chemical reaction with the strong hormonal dose in the pills and the natural hormones in your body…..

I have taken plan B about six times probably. I always felt sick when I took it and sometimes had to go to the bathroom more than usual w/ loose bowel movements. Most of the time my period came within a week after taking the pills irregardless of when my last cycle was. It also was usually darker brownish or black. I took one back in December , I was a few days late but not prego. I took one last week and started bleeding today and it is black. I have abdominal cramping and pain in my legs. For everyone who has or is having these symptoms I highly doubt it is a miscarriage, I have had one before and the pain is different. But if you have been bleeding for longer than your normal period or are having very severe symptoms just go see a doctor and if you don’t have insurance they have to take you in the emergency room. Personally I think these pills are bad stuff. Hopefully in the future we will all be smart and safe enough to no have to use them again but like most of you I would rather have a little pain than become prego for whatever reason each of us has. Hope this helped you guys a little bit.

took map pill three fridays ago couple of days after last period (thought cindom had split night before)was ok until week later started bleeding thought period had come early still bleeding 13 days later and as heavy as first day very red and runny. went to gp today said its quite common.game me some tranexamic acid tablets to stop the bleeding. fingers crossed.also have back pain no energy and fatigue

I took levonelle one step. I morning sickness the next day, had breast tenderness for weeks, bled for about two weeks, and for the next 4 cycles had breakthrough bleeding and very strange periods-wierd clotting, sort of dry brown blood for the first few days of the period and then it would come in properly-but painfully and heavily. For the last 4 months I’ve had longer periods than normal. But the good news is, the pill worked, and I am finally back to normal. I think the scariest part of taking this pill is that you don’t have many people to talk to about it, and you don’t know if the changes are normal. The drug company makes it sound like taking this pill is no big deal and that dramatic side effects are unlikely to happen. Well, they ARE likely to happen, but they won’t kill you, they will just be annoying, and rest assured that your body WILL return to normal again.

I started bleeding yesterday. It’s really heavy and fills up my pad almost instantly. I don’t know what to do. I took the pill in february on th 14th. The next week or so I had a period but it was onlyn two and a half days long. My periods are usually 5 to 7 days. My period this month was the same length (2 and a half days long). Can anyone tell me for certain if that is a result of the pill or am I possibly pregnant? But, then again, I have PID and recently discovered that if you have that, you’re not even supposed to take the pill. I’m confused…

after having my girlfriend take the pill and experiencing with her the stress it gives, i found these posts kind of helpfull, like other people felt the same,a nd what happened to her wasnt unusual. me and my girlfriend had unprotected sex once, i gave her the pill the day after, we had sex 2 days before her period was supposed to come. after taking the pill, she menstruated heavily for 10 days, during this time, her body temperature was also elevated and she had large mood swings. she took a preganacy test 25 days after and it came out negative. her period is about 5 days late so far.

took the morning after pill less than 12 hours after having unprotected sex on wed night, it’s now monday. had just started my period right before i had sex, and i cannot find any material to say if that would affect the way the pill worked? my period would have normally finished by now, but i’m not suprised it hasn’t. but its really heavy and i’m experience abdominal pain i wouldn’t normally get. getting a little worried…

I took Plan B on March 15th (day 16 of my cycle); started my period on the 20th (about 10 days early); bled for five days, was fine for three days, and then began spotting red on the 28 which lasted for three days. My breasts are increasingly tender and feel swollen. Am I still experiencing side effects from Plan B? I’ve taken it before and have been fine. Incidentally, I also got a sinus infection a few days after taking Plan B — I read somewhere that that can be a side effect, as well.

I took the pill less then a month ago and have been having lower abdominal cramps when I stand, my breast are swollen and tender, bloatness and tiredness. I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive. I took 3 more to make sure and they were all positive. Any ideas?

i’ve been reading through all these posts and i realised that no one ever gets any answers on here.
well i’ll write my experience from the morning after pill..
i took the morning after pill nearly a month ago now after having unprotected sex with my boyfriend. he didn’t come and it was only for a matter of seconds but i was worried so i decided to take it, 2 days after unprotected sex. i didn’t have many symptoms in the first week except for tiredness and a really low depressing feeling. 5 days after taking the pill, i experienced a really heavy bleeding which lasted a few days. since then i developed a backache which has now gone, headache, really slight stomach cramps and vaginal discharge. it has now been a month since and i feel better. i get a headache occasionally but i think that’s due to stress over this whole thing. and as for the vaginal discharge, the pill plays around with your hormone levels so things are bound to be different for a little while. heavy bleeding a few days or a week after taking the pill is usually expected too. took 3 pregnancy tests and they’ve all been negative. all i can say is don’t worry ladies. from my experience, these things are all side effects of the pill. i know it’s hard but just wait it out.

also, i think the the ’side effects’ in the booklet are extremely misleading. they don’t mention half the symptoms that, i think, are really common from what all the women on here are saying. that’s why we all get so worried because we don’t know what’s going on. but all the smyptoms seem normal and quite common, don’t worry.

I took the morning after pill over three weeks ago which was one day after having unprotected sex. I had a period that was extremely light but have had spotting after having intercourse since. Not to mention my breasts hurted for days and frequent urge to urinate. Didn’t have any signs of depression but find that I get fatigued very easily. I have also developed a cyst on the outside of my vaginal area. I have decided that it would be best for me to go to see a doctor now that I see that one can have an eptopic pregnancy. I definately would not recommend this pill to anyone with a history of ovarian cysts.

Well i honestly have not had side effects. I have had to take it 3 seperate times, each time no problems. I DO HAVE A QUESTION though, as you know you have to take them exactly 12 hours apart. What if you took them 24 hours apart, i forgot to set my alarm to remind to take it, and i ended up taking it almost 24 hours later. Would one go and buy another packet???????

ITS BEEN 35 DAYS SINCE MY LAST PERIOD and it’s kind of worrying now. My breasts feel tender, my stomach feelz like it’s being punched and poked at and my vagina just recently started hurting like it usually does when I’m about to have my period the only DIFFERENCE IS, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 3 DAYS NOW.(very unusual and unfamiliar). I already took 2 preggy tests and they all came out negative….now do I have to push this monthly expected liquid out or what? cuz it’s really gettin to me now that it’s been 2 FREAKING MONTHS!

I took the 72 hour pill a few weeks ago, since then I’ve had real discomfort in my vagina, theres a lot of discharge and it sort of stings. I wasnt sure if this was because if the Levonelle One Step or because I might actally have and STI. I think its kind of obvious now though.

In most cases, with the whole period not coming for a few months, that is expected. Especially if you’ve taken pregnancy tests which have come out negative, they are 99% accurate. Don’t worry, i’ve heard about women who have not recieved their periods for 5 months after taking it! It just messes things up a little down there.

i took the morning after pill 6 days ago, i started bleeding yesterday but am not due for another 2 weeks, iv taken it 3 times in the past and have never had any side effects before, i am very worried and angry that i wasn’t told about any of these side affects and i will NEVER be taking it again!

I had unprotected sex April 2nd, and started bleeding on April 9th and it lasted for just about 2 days. And today I am having the worse stomach pains ever and my boobs hurt really bad. And does anyone know if I will get my period still at the normal time (which is around the 16th for me)? Or is it always 2-3 weeks after taking the pill? that’s normal to bleed around a week after unprotected sex if you’ve taken the MAP. normally it’s heavy too. i remember taking the pill, i was so worried it was awful. i’m fine now but the paranoia of pregnancy still scares me

So today I was totally worried about being pregnant. i took the morning after pill about just over a month ago now. i bled quite heavily around 5 days after taking it and have been paranoid about pregnancy ever since! until yesterday, i got my period a month and a few days after taking the pill. please don’t worry ladies, aslong as you’ve taken it within 72 hours i’m pretty sure you’ll all be fine. the pill can make you feel pregnant when you’re not, i know how you all feel. best of luck to you all!

I took the pill on the 27th, spotted a couple of days later. To date, no period….have taken three pregnancy tests because I am freaking out…all came back negative. I hope my body goes back to norman soon…I am never taking these pills again. Two weeks ago I had to go to the emergency room because out of nowhere I developed a Bartholyn’s cyst on the side of my vagina. Couldn’t sit or walk for two days….they cut it open and drained it in the emergency room. Why don’t men have to worry about this crap??!!!!

For all of my sisters out there who have taken this pill or are thinking about taking it, my suggestion is as follows; if you have a Planned Parenthood Clinic where you live, go there, ask about their morning after pill. I remember taking it two years ago and not having any of the problems I or any of you have experienced.

My concern is a follows the brochure that comes with Plan B pills is not very helpful or informative to the questions we all have. IF you are all these blogs, it seems like most of us have had the same side effects, fears and irregular periods afterwards. I don’t want to be some company’s guinea pig! As I said before, I don’t know when I am going to get my period. But I saw a show where a woman who took the morning after pill was pregnant…..didn’t know until she started having contractions, even though she took two pregnancy tests which came out as negative. My next advice is as follows, for those of us who don’t get our period for more than 4 weeks…go to a clinic and take their pregnancy test….explain the situation….usually before an abortion they will do an ultrasound to see how far along you are….this will let you know that you are definately pregnant and that you need to decide whether to keep it or not.

Yesterday the FDA approved giving Plan B pills to 17 year olds without a prescription. To any parents of a 17 year old or any 17 year olds planning on taking this, please do not take this pill. The side effects of this pill are horrible, read the beginning of these blogs. This pill stays in your system for a long time causing all sort of abnormal side effects not listed on the flyer. No young woman should have to go through what all of us have had to go through.

I took the morning after pill a week ago and was warned I might suffer side-effects such as drowsiness and spotting. The only side-effect I had was a drowsiness which lasted 2 days and then yesterday I started having abdominal cramp and spotting. Is this normal so long after taking the morning-after pill?

ive took the pill the week before my period and started feeling all the same pains after my period went off.And usually my period is on for five days and now its been on for bout two and half weeks.My boyfriend researched it too so were pretty sure im not pregnant as well. First question, did you guys use a condom? I hope you did. If it was your first time having intercourse it is normal to bleed a little. Keep your eye on the spotting,if it goes on for more than three days go to the doctor.

Second question, have you taken Plan B? How old are you? Hopefully your spotting will stop and you will be okay. If you are going to have intercourse…my advice to you is protect yourself by using condoms. No guy in this world is worth an STD. Hmmmm there seems to be some confusion here over what the morning after pill actually does. The reason women bleed after taking it is nothing to do with abortion or killing anything, its simply because they’ve taken a large dose of hormone. It basically urges the body to shed the lining of the womb (the same as a period), while also preventing the release of an egg (same as the contraceptive pill). If a woman was already pregnant and took the morning after pill, it would have no effect on the life created – this is why there is a totally different ABORTION pill for this situation. If you’re going to judge on the grounds of religion then at least learn the truth of what it does before inflicting your ill-advised beliefs on people who did not ask for your opinion.

The morning after pill. This pill is used to prevent the possibility of an unplanned pregnancy. It prevents fertilization…despite of the stupidity from some bloggers….it does not kill a baby. I have taken Plan B before and have only experienced minor side effects such as fatigue. I recently took the pill again and am now having more severe symptoms such as nausea, cramping, bloating and fatigue. These symptoms have lasted for about a week and a half. I know i’m not pregnant but these are the worst side effects pertaining to this pill that I have had.

Just so you all know, the Plan B pill is the abortion pill, just in a nice handy package. Any doctor will tell you this.

It will make you feel terrible no matter what. It is to ensure you did not get pregnant; even though I have heard of some women ending up pregnant anyway.

You will bleed and have discomfort for awhile and if you did actually conceive, it will be worse. If you’re bleeding with as much pain as stated here, I suggest you go to your OB/GYN to be checked to make sure it is not worse than you think.

i had unprotected sex on the 16,17 and 18 of april.. i took the morning after pill on the 20th..but i put it under my tongue and drank some water, then the tablet started to dissolve and a little went down my throat and the remainders i spat it out, then 5days later i startd to spot, then the secon day i bled and the next but it wasn’t alot and my period wasn’t due till the 3rd of may which has not come yet and lately iv been having serious belly cramps, headaches, feeling nausea, and nipple feeling sore

Okay girls. When take this pill follow the instructions as they are in the package. Do not go out and have unprotected sex again. This only adds to the confusion.

Hi Col, I am having the same problem as you. My husband and I use condoms because we have three kids and don’t want another(atleast not right now). The condom came off inside of me so we were worried enough that he got me Plan B. I took it about a week after my menstral only about 8 hours after the incident. I started my menstral again within 1 week which would have been 2 weeks early for my April period. Then in April I started again around the 15th but, keep in mind I haven’t had a really normal cycle in 2 years (since I have been off the ortho-tri-cycling pill) But, it is now May 21 st still no period in site. I always experience breast tenderness and severe bloating and mood changes with my period so I don’t know if I am pregnant unless I miss my period for a really long period of time or I start to become extremely nauseas. The morning after pill didn’t really give me any side effects besides the weird bleeding but, I am still concerned because I haven’t had my period for May yet. Just a little note to Alexandra the abortion pill and plan B are way different. Let me just say that Plan B is not an abortion pill which is why you can’t take it later that 36 hours after unprotected sex. All it does is prevent a fertlized egg from attaching to the uterus by making your uterus seem to alreading have an implanted egg in it hence the breast tenderness and nausea and bloating it makes your body think it is already pregnant so another egg can’t implant. The abortion pill actually makes you abort a fetus that is in the uterus hence the abortion part. An egg that is not implanted is NOT a fetus. So you might want to find another doctor if your doctor tells you any differenly. Hi to TJ as well I wanted to say to you that you need to wait atleast a year to become pregnant after taking any form of chemical birth control. (This is what the docors told me). I got off the DEPO SHOT when I was trying for my Third child with my husband. I was on DEPO for 3 years. We tried for well over a year before we finally gave up trying and I got pregnant. I don’t believe that you can’t have a child just give your body the chance to become “normal” without extra chemicals in it. I have a 14 mth little girl and me and her daddy are very happy, want loads of babies in the futre but had a little accident and the condom broke, i never went back on my pill after my daughter so comdoms are our only proctection. It is the first I have ever heard that you can take that many birth control pills and get the same effect as Plan B. I do know that plan B is the same thing as regular birth control only in a much more potent form. Just for refrence you could still be pregnant even if you bleed. I know for a fact it has happened to me before even after taking my pill. I didn’t know I had missed my pill and the next morning when I went to take the one for that morning I realized I had forgotten the day before so I took both just like you are instructed to do by your doctor. I ended up not haveing my period and went to doc found out was pregnant. I ended up losing the baby maybe because of the birth control who knows. So yes you can still be pregnant go get a at home test! Right away because you could end up having really bad complications brcause of all the pills you took. I wish you well and have a great day.

Hi Ladies, I wish to say that I felt and cried for all who had experienced such horrible times after taking Plan B, I read these comments only a day after I took both pills and have been scarred ever since, and still am a bit. But, I must say that I did take the pills only 3 hrs. after unexpected sex when a condom did break. I can not carry since my hemmorage 20 years ago, I have a beautiful 20 year young daughter but almost didnt make it, and I did have a miscarriage 5 years ago so I had to do the resonsible thing and buy Plan B. I had stomacheand side pains the first few days after taking it and yes was extra tired, but my period did come on 3 days early which is common for me. Today is my first day and so far so good. I have a very sensitive system and was terrified. I do not know if this is a normal period yet, I am usually very heavy for 5 days or so. I will post back if all stays well. I was never on birth control and just turned 40 years of age. All I ask is that you all be careful, I do not have a sex life to speak of becasue I am so scarred of getting pregnant and I do know it is taking away a normal part of life, but even with inserts and a condom I worry so much until I get my period that I do not have sex at all. Maybe I will find a man that will love me wihtout penetration as I am a very affectionate person but cant afford this kinf of fear. My thoughts are with all of you. I will post again.

last week i was on my period then i fininshed on the thursday took the morning after pill the friday and sat afternoon i started to bleed ive neaver had this before it aws a little bit at first now its got more worse but i feel fine apart from that

It has been almost 3 weeks since I have taken the “Plan B” Pill. Two days after taking this so called emergency Contraceptive, I started to spot, and then the next day I began to bleed heavily. I have read the symptoms on the websites, so I figured that this was one of them. However, I am still bleeding!! It is now almost 3 weeks after taking the pill and I am still bleeding as if I am reliving my menstrual cycles days over and over back to back. Anyone have a clue?

Ok, So…it looks like this pill causes a CRAP load of bleeding. You may possibly bleed for MONTHS! Almost to a point to where you have lost so MUCH BLOOD that you might as well check in to the nearest hospital! I mean come on! I have been bleeding for over 3 weeks STRAIGHT! I feel so weak from loosing all this blood that I seriously think that I need to make a trip to the nearest GNC and pick up some freaking IRON PILLS! This pill is obviously not very healthy to take. The side effects after taking this pill seem to be more of a concern than the actual affect that it was meant to prevent. This just goes to show that things like this are not NORMAL, I would rather have a child and live with him/her for the rest of my life than BLEED consecutively for MONTHS STRAIGHT! PLAN B is no longer a PLAN for me. I need to go back to PLAN A!!!

this is my first and last time taking this pill. i’m having really bad abdominal pain. its so bad that i cant even sleep at night and extra strength tylenol doesnt work. id rather just go with plan c and just have the baby.

I personally would not have a abortion unless I was in a situation where we were putting our other children in jeopardy! This was what my sitution was I thought we have three kids Oldest 14 years middle is 9 years and youngest is going to be 4 years in 6 days. So when we had an accident when the condom slipped off I made the choice to get plen B. I had just ended my period the night it happened and within a few days I bled again (from the pills) it was just like a normal period. It ended around the 29th 30th of March. Then in April I had another period started on 16th lasted 5 days so ended 20th of April. (These are approx. dates because me period is never normal) So I came to this forum because I needed some support I was scared to death about missing. So I took prego. test negative results. So I looked up on internet about inducing periods I assumed that the pills made me miss. So I found a website called angry for a reason about induced periods or for women whom think they are in very early stages of unwanted pregnancy induced miscarriage. Anyway I knew I wasn’t prego from the test so I decided to give the herbal remedy a try and guess what today is the 30th of May and I have begun to spot. The remedy is only to be done for 3 days and today is the day I woke up and I had to end so day 4 and I have begun to bleed. So anyway I don’t recommend doing a home or herbal miscarriage but if you know you aren’t pregnant give that website a look over and maybe it’ll be right for you. The way I figure is it has to be better for you than all those pills those pharmaseutical companies are shoving down your throat Right!

I took the morning after pill 6 days ago. I am married and I already have 2 children but we are having problems so I thought I’d better not take any chances. Being a single mom of 2 kids would be hard enough. Anyway, I have had serious fatigue,DEPRESSION, and serious anger since I took it. I mean I’m in a rage at everyone and I’m not usually like that. I’m positive the fatigue, depression, and anger are side effects I’m just ready for them to go away. I didn’t even want to get out of bed yesterday . But come on ladies -two weeks of moodiness or depression or discomfort is easier then 9 months – and then 18 years of a little one.

Hi Its April again, well I had what hope was a normal period, I so paranoid I just want to get my next period to be sure. I do however have back pain that seems to be getting worse,and left side pain. I will never take Plan B again I am disapointed in myself that I had to, but again if it did prevent a pregnancy that I could not nor want to see through anyway with my history, then I am going to hope for the best and wait out these side effects. ladies again please be so careful, we only get one body and trust me its up to us to take care of it, no one else cares.

(BF) it is great you are worried about your girl. Tell her to take vitamin C. Tell her to take the 100% vitamin C not the stuff with ricoflavinoids in it. Viamin C can cause an egg not to implant as long as it is caught right away. She should take 500 mg tablets ever hour no more than 6000mg in a day (it is water solubale so you can’t take too much you pee it out. I have done this and either I never got pregnant to begin with or it prevented it. She needs to drinks tons of water I mean so many and if she has kidney problems then don’t because this could cause kidney stones (very rare)! She can look it up on the internet there are many great sites about it. All I know is i’ll never take Plan B again! I also pray I never have to be in the situation ever again!

I usually take the levonelle morning after pill and I make sure I read the whole booklet that comes with the medication and the symptoms seem copeable but sometimes it is worse than they say.
The first two times I have taken levonelle i got two periods on the same month and spotting and the rest, but now when I take it I don’t get any side effects and it feels weird. I would also like to know how many emergency pills should be taken withen a year before any long term damages are done to the menstral cycle and fertility.

Start to relax and think positively. try to think that your cycle has paused and now u start to ovulate again, meaning period will come. I took the day after pill and I am now 2 months late for my period and really scared..i took about 10 pregnant tests and some of them where different tests but they all said I’m NOT PREGNANT. i don’t know y my period isn’t coming then. I thought maybe the pill and stressing just delayed my period so after my 1st period didn’t come I just wanted to wait and thought well maybe it will come late if not it will definitely come next month. let me start off by apologizing to all of you women who are on here for support, after using the morning after pill, for all the stupid pointless bickering that is of no use to you in SUPPORTING you through your hard times and serious questions. I’M SORRY!

i myself took the morning after pill back in early April. like most of us i had and accident with the condom. to be honest i didn’t have any side effects immediately after taking it. at least non that were noticeable. BUT, when May came around i was a week and a half late with my period. i wasn’t really worried about it i tend to have faith in medications. however after my normal period ended about five days later i continued to have discharge. large brown clots that i knew was old blood. i was like “ok, a side effect” i was fine until i realized that two week had gone by and i still had the discharge sometimes heavy sometimes light. i am now on my 25 day of discharge and one month since the first day of my period. i asked my doctor about it and gave all the details to him. he said it was an unusual side effect but nevertheless a side effect of the high levels of hormones pumped into me by the MAP. the discharge was just old blood and tissue build up form my uterus wall which is what is normally discharged during your period. I’m am now starting to worry because he told me if it didn’t clear up by the end of my next period (sometime next week) that one of the ways to stop it was to open up my cervix and scrape it all off of my uterus wall. I’m scared because of some of the comments I’m reading on here talking about having the side effects for months, I’m thinking about possibly going through with it and possibly getting scaring. if anyone has gone through something similar i would like some input. BTW I’m not thinking about having children until I’m in my thirty’s I’m currently 23.

Ok, I have to comment on the women who are lecturing others on here. I am pro-life and I am a Christian. What ever beliefs others may have is up to them. May God judge them, I can not. The best way to show others, in my beliefs, is to show by example. Lecturing is not the right way. What I do feel is that there is much confusion on the difference between these types of pills. “PLAN B” is birth control…end of story. It is the very same as taking a normal bc “pill” just 5 times the normal dose. It is not an abortion pill…it is birth control. So if you are against pregnancy prevention in that sense, then you may disagree with it. I think there is nothing wrong with birth control and I think in today’s society it is a wonder drug. However, if those saying you are destroying yourself to another on here are referring to an actual abortion pill. That is a whole other matter and you should make sure you understand what you are doing. Know the difference is all. Know there is a difference between these two pills. I always have to remind myself not to get sucked into this world too deeply because one day I will be judged on those decisions. I can not let the god of convienence and irresponsibility compromise my morals. I am 32 and I am scared I am pregnant again. Took morning after pill 2 weeks ago. I have twins even from a long marriage but now divorced. Even at my age, you got to stay focused and remember make the man eat ya out more!! As simple as that!

i had sex when i was 3 days away from gettin my period.The condom broke. I took the morning after pill the day after,but i still have no gotten my period. Its been a week and a half. i recommend you to take a pregnancy test to be make sure but its best to be taken after 19 days of uprotected sex.. im the mean time, dont freak out.. there is some chance that you throwing up is just a side effect of the pill which you have taken.. best wishes

My cycle ended on May 1st, on May 3rd I was sexually assaulted. When I went to the hospital they gave me the morning after pill. A week later I started bleeding very heavily with bad cramps and backache. It lasted for about 8 days. It is now June 14th and I have not started my cycle yet. Is this normal?

ive noticed almost everyone who has stated their issues on here goes MIA afterwards, like we never know what happened to them in the end, so i am here to share my own personal experience with this plan b method. i have written some comments (when i was scared ****less) please read 329 for my story, and now.. i am sharing what has come to the end of my experience.

to all the girls who’s having different types of side effects after taking the morning after pills (plan b), i feel u girls and i know how frustrating it can be when our periods has gone MIA or irregular spotting and bleeding has occurred. but before anything, dont stress yourself out just yet because u girls dont know what is really going on, morning after pills is a very high dosage of hormones and it DEFINITELY messes with our cycles. my period was almost 2 weeks late and i was so stressed out to the point where i was going slowly insane, but now it has finally came around, i have taken 6 pregnancy tests and gone to the gyno twice for lab testing just to ease my mind but no matter what, i cant seen to calm my nerve because i was worried sick so i totally feel u girls. my best suggestion is to keep yourself calm and keep a few pregnancy tests handy so whenever doubts fills ur mind, use it just to remind yourself u r NOT pregnant. ur period will come, its just the matter of time now, u guys might expereince different types of side effects but it will all go away soon enough, now i know some of u girls find it hard to get by the days but trust me, everything will be fine in the end, just take this as a valuable lesson to learn and we just gotta be more careful in the future so we dont need to go through all this again. i wrote this especially for u girls because its hard i know but hang in there, it will come.

Hi 123, No bleeding after morning after pill does not count as a period. I started bleeding 1-week after my period just 48 hours after taking Plan B. I ended up having a normal mensie the following Month (April) only it was 2- days early. I didn’t have all these side effects from the PLan B either other that my mensie being really late in May. But, if you are more than a week late for your monthly you should do a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side. I have many posts on here I just haven’t been back for a while because I under went a surgery and got the Copper IUD (the one without hormones) so far I have only had really bad cramps but, I think it is also from the surgery. Anyway if you have any questions i’ll do my best to answer them.

i can imagined what is going through ur mind right now and trust me, it irritates me knowing girls are going through such stress. i meant, we went out and got the pills but yet, all these side effects has gotten us so stressed out afterwards anyways. anna is right about what she said regarding to bleeding a few days after taking the morning after pills does not consider a period. it is just a common side effect a lot of girls gets after taking the pills such as spotting and bleeding in between periods. high numbers of girls gets 2 priods in one month and some has delayed period (which is what happened to us). dont worry girl, it will come but make sure u have a few home pregnancy tests around so it can slightly ease ur mind when doubts comes around. or i can suggest u make a appointment to go in a local gyno to take a lab test and speak to one of the staff there, they’re normally very concerning and comforting. hope all goes well. i know how hard it is but dont stress it. if u have any questions, please add me on msn or email me at Jenn1208@hotmail.com i will gladly answer any questions u might have, same goes to other girls who’s seeking for advices and comments.

I took the morning after pill the same night I had unprotected sex. I was a bit intoxicated… On June 20 in the morning I realized I had gotten my period. It was very light. Now, I haven’t had my period in a LONG time before all this, it’s actually been about 2 years, and I know it’s because I’m over weight. Now I still have my period but it is VERY heavy and I’m in extreme pain. It’s making me very nervous. Should I go to the doctor?

(SH) I want to clarify for you that when you take the Plan B and bleed within a few days it is NOT a menstrual. It very clearly states that on the package insert. Also, why would you think you needed Plan B if you haven’t had a period in years. You do realize you need to ovilate to get pregnant right? That means you need to have a period. It is in fact extremely rare to be able to get pregnant without ovulating so rare I have never heard of it. It is completely normal to have cramping and irregular bleeding after plan B. It also can have some serious complictions with it which is why you should NEVER use it as regular birth control. If you are going to be sexually active you should use some form of birth control and not depend on Plan B as a way out. If you read the insert inside the package it will tell you this. GOOD LUCK! Remember always use protection NO Birth Control protects against HIV, and other Sexually Transmitted diseases.

It has been a week and I am still have constant stomach pain, i feel sick, have increased appetite, lack of interest in sex and I fainted. It seems that my experiences are not unusual and I believe the company should outline the full possible effects. I am really worried about what this pill has done to my body, I was so regular and healthy before.

First off… I took it as a precaution because he ejaculated inside me. And I started bleeding 2 weeks after I took the pill. I’ve had a period before, but I heard that even though I’m not bleeding that I may still be ovulating. I know Plan B is not a birth control, but my doctor once told me that if I took birth control pills that it may regulate my period. I’m bleeding a lot and there are clots and everything… should I go to the doctor???

You might want to go to the doctor just becuase the bleeding is so abnormal for you but, it is pretty common to have a side effect of bleeding with the Plan B because it has such a huge amount of hormones in it. If you are experiencing abnormal pain in your belly as well definetly go to the doctor you could have a tubal pregnancy.

The pain isn’t as bad as it was the first two days, but the bleeding has gotten worse… and the pain is like a stomach ache, but in the lower part of my belly but I don’t need to use the bathroom. I’m going to go to the clinic after work and see whats going on. Thanks!

Hi, I wanted to add that on the enclosed information inside the plan B box it states that you can have irregular bleeding, cramping, nauesa, sore breasts… an so on. I have used the Plan B and personally didn’t have any really bad side effects from it but I have PMDD (Pre Menstrual Diforic Disorder) I get severe cramps, tender breasts, severe moddiness, I also become extremely tired. So if I had any of the side effects from this pill I wouldn’t of known. Also, did you know that the Plan B makers tell you to take the pills 12-hours apart but, most health care professionals will tell you it is more effective to take both pills at the same time. THE MORNING AFTER PILL MADE ME SUFFER A MAJOR STROKE IN 2007-I was 18..Here a some of the important details of events which surrounded it…

On the 16th of february 2007 i took the morning after pill following the chemists instructions of taking the 2 tablets at the one time.I had left it too long to be within the 72 hour time frame of taking the tablets 12 hours apart hence the double dosage.

On the morning of the 17th of February i suffered a major stroke in the shower. I was 18.
Home alone, I collapsed in the shower and became paralysed down my entire left side and permanently blind in the left half of both eyes. I dragged myself out over the bath and crawled into the kitchen to get to the house phone. After trying my mother and father i left a scrambled voicemail message on dads phone. Calling me back and hearing of my symptoms he immediately called the ambulance, and my aunty(she lives 15 minutes away, and works in elderly care).
She beat the ambulance.

When the ambulance arrived the officers refused to take me to the hospital claiming i had symptoms of a migraine and if she was worried then she could drive me to my local GP. My aunty argued and yelled with the officers to take me to the hospital but everytime they refused.
Eventually they gave in and drove me to the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria.

That same night they tried to send me home.
I was still paralysed and blind.
The doctors reluctantly gave me a CT scan which only shows up bleeds on the brain.
The next night they tried to send me home again with my mother in tears, yelling “there’s something wrong with her!”

Even more reluctantly they then took me away for a scan which revealed a major clot.

Now you can imagine the fuss they made. TWO DAYS it had taken them to believe I had had a stroke…2 days.

When i eventually got out of hospital the neurosurgeon came into my room with a showbag filled with pamphlets and fridge magnets which said “STROKE IS ALWAYS AN EMERGENCY”-If you are suffering from any of these symptoms call 000 immediately.
I had 5 of the 6 symptoms;

*Numbness, weakness and paralysis

*Difficulty speaking and understanding

*Dizziness,difficulty speaking and an unexplained fall

*Loss of eyesight in one or both eyes

*Headache (severe and abrupt onset)

It was insult to injury.

The year went on with in-the-home rehab and a series of studies i was involved in as a guinea pig.

In October 2007 I suffered from my first epileptic seizure as a result of the stroke.

I’m still dependent on my epilepsy medication and am no longer able to drive. I am almost 21 and still have no sight in my left field of vision and till this day, I cannot find one doctor who will support me in the fact that the stroke was caused by the Morning After Pill…

The long and short of it is this…

The Morning After Pill floods your body with hormones(red blood cells)…

The risk of having a stroke after taking the MAP is 41% whereas i took the 2 tablets together…
An over release of red blood cells is a blood clot..that risk for me increased to 82% but “It wasn’t the morning after pill that caused the stroke” was it.

The whole situation was handled terribly and i’m thinking now of maybe going to court and getting compensation or something…i need support and evidence of other similar cases to pursue with this but I don’t know how long it will take.

eryn, my goodness thank you for sharing your story with us. Young people need to know what they are putting into their bodies! This is a perfect example of what could happen. I am sorry it has effected your for life, it simply is tragic. It is clear on the MAP’s inserts about blood clots it also states that smokers and people over 35 years old are at a greater risk. Since inside the leaflet the company tells you to take the pills 12-hours apart I am not sure you can get compensted from them but, maybe the chemist who told you to take them at the same time because it would be assumed that the risk of such blood clots and other side effects would be pretty close to doubled when taking both pills at the same time. I don’t know about the laws where you live I only know in California which is where I live so please don’t take my advise as a matter of fact it is just specultion. I have a feeling you may have some sort of liability lawsuit especially for the cops, doctors, and other people who didn’t believe that you were having a stroke. Maybe your eyesite could have been saved or maybe you wouldn’t have had so much recovery time had they responded quicker but, honestly I don’t know that would be for a lawyer to decide. I am so glad my husband and I chose to get me the IUD I couldn’t even imagine if something so terrible happened to me since we are raising three kids. WOW what a story. THank you for sharing!

i took the morning after pill on Monday,June 22, and it is not Friday June 26th. Since i took those 2 pills, eveything i eat or drink i feel sick. i dont get pains, just lke a nervous puke feeling. i find i am hungry more often but when i get hungry its a sick hungry, like i feel liek i have eaten in days when really it’s only been an hour. im cranky and have crazy mood swings. i hate eatig cause i feel like i could puke any second. Can anyone help me or give me advice? is any of this normal??

it is “normal” to get the pukey sick feeling from the MAP. Unfortunatly some women and girls experience it more intense than others. I am sorry you feel so bad. It will pass usually within a few hours. If you are getting really, really sick and it has been more than 4-hours talk to a health care professional because you could be having an allergic reaction to the pill and may need to be treated for that.

Many symptoms are linked to taking the morning after pill. I suggest that if u can’t stand the things that u are feeling, see ur GP or go to a family planning clinic (maybe go back to the place u recieved the pill from). I wouldn’t worry too much, the worst outcome is usually that u may still be pregnant, which if u suspect, u shud take a test… Im still awaiting my period which is a couple of days late as of now, and im a little worried, but im trying not to think of it x

okay so heres my story
hopefully someone can shed some light for me

on june 14th(a couple days before my period) i had sex with my bf and the condom slipped but not completely. he said some of his stuff got on his balls but not on me. being the worry freak that i am i took plan b the next day (monday june 15) and the next pill tuesday morning. i got my period on june 19th(friday) like normal. it was alittle lighter and shorter than normal but not my by much. it ended tuesday.
wed. and thursday when i wiped there was a slight pink spot in my discharge that only showed up once throught both of those days.
its now 2 weeks after i took the pills and i still have breast tenderness. abdominal pain on one side mostly. back pain. chest pain. stomach pain. shoulder pain. i dont feel like im gonna puke or anything. constipated. peeing alot more.
since im still freaking out i plan on taking a PT this week and hope it comes out negative.

ive emailed a few online Dr.s and they assure me that im okay since i had already ovulated and the egg was long dead when i had the incident. but i still cant stop freaking out.
they also said that i may be experiencing pms again and might get anotehr period this month.

(Natalie) Hi, all of the symtopms you are experiencing are normal after taking plan B. What worries me about you is that you are having one sided abdominal pain becuase it can be a tubal pregnancy. Please if it gets any worse go to the doc to be on the safe side tubal pregnancies don’t always show up on an EPT and they can kill you if your tube bursts.

i will deffinitly get it checked out if the pain gets worse but just so you know the pain isnt even close to where my tubes are. i was talkin to another girl who had similar symptoms and she said it was a cyst that never went away on its own. however ill keep you posted if anything else occurs.

i have reason to believe that this pill caused more medical problems for me than intended.
ever since i took it ive been having neck pain and i was rubbing my neck only to realize i now have 2 bean sized lumps in my neck that wasnt there before i took plan b. it worries me that it could be something serious and i will mention it to my dr when i go for my yearly checkup next friday.

it sounds like you are having an allergic reaction to the Plan B. Have you ever been on depo or another birth control like that? I had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic called Bactrim. I severe pain at the base of my neck so severe I thought my head might pop off at any moment. My lyphnods in the back of my neck sweeled up as well and I had lumps on the back of my neck. Your sitution sounds similar only with fewer sid effects and a different drug.

but who knows maybe thats where all this is comming from.

i had sex with my gf and i got her the pill, she took both at once. the side effects she suffered from were bleeding for 2 weeks, emotional unbalance, and tiredness and a raise in body temperature.

update:

lumps in my neck are infact swollen lymphnodes…allergic reaction to plan b.

no ectopic pregnancy..not pregnant either.
the side pain was just a side effect from the pill even 3 weeks after.

I took plan B a few weeks ago. I got my period seemingly on time and it was normal. The thing that I am worried about is that during my period, I began to get nauseous late at night. It has been at least two weeks and the nausea continues. I have vomited twice. It freaks me out because I NEVER vomit – even when very ill. The other thing is that my hormones have seemingly been way out of whack. I am emotional, stressed, drained, depressed, ect..
I am REALLY hoping that I am experiencing side effects of the pill and that I am in fact NOT pregnant.

Hi , I have take the plan b pill with the past week. I am sorry I can’t remember the exact day. But I did take the pill about 3 hours after my hubby and I had sex. then 12 hours later I took the 2nd pill. I have had nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, abdominal pain ( stomache pain), back pain and im constintenly going to the bathroom. What bothers me that its been three days not that I have been passing blood clots each time I got to the bathroom and I am still having abdmoninal pain and back pain. If anyone knows how long this last please let me know. I am not sure if I want to contact my doctor about this just yet or not. I am trying to wait it out but its just uncomfortable at time.

I can tell you that Midol menstral relief meds do not work for this. I have been taking it as directed on box and it has not effect. I am not trying my heating pad on my back and it kinda is helping the back but I still feel the pain. At times the pain does get a little intense. I mean its bearable but discomfort.

the side effects can last up to three weeks depending on your body. If they start getting worse go to the doctor you can be experiencing severe side effects. These need to be taken seriously especially because of the blood clot factor that can kill you if you are not prompt at getting medical treatment.

OMG!!!! someone help me! I took my 2nd morning after pill this morning and I’m about to pass the hell out from really bad abdominal and stomach pains. It’s worse than any period cramp I’ve ever had. Is the pain supposed to be so severe!??

Took the Morning After pill last month the immediately on the day after I had unprotected sex. It was already time for me to come on my menstrual, so everything seemed normal to me. However, this month I ususally come on my menstrual around the 9th-11th but I have not come on yet. I work at a clinic so I have taken a pregnancy test twice and even taken one that test for the pregnancy hormone HCG. The test is negative and I have been preganant before and I did feel like I am now. But you never know!!!!! I am worried!!!!! Somebody please tell me this is normal!!!! Where is my menstrual???????

((Lili)) Go to the doctor. You may be experiencing an allergic reaction to the MAP. Shortness of breath is not a side effect it would be an adverse reaction and if it gets worse who knows what could happen. I didn’t have this problem with the MAP but I did with an antibiotic called Bactrim and it sounds like the same symptom your having.

I took the emergency contraceptive about 3 weeks ago and only the last few days i’ve felt back ache, tiredness a lot, i was being sick about 2 weeks ago…

(Amy) Go to see a doctor or OBG if your pain is severe! To get a pregnancy test, if positive or even negative, go to OBG to get blood test for certain, and a urine test to rule out urinary tract infection(UTI). If you have pain during urinating, then more likely you have UTI. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) can also cause lower stomach pain. Since you have past history of bladder and kidney problems, sexual contact may have caused infection again. Young girl might get Chlamydia. Go to see a doctor, to have exams to make sure. Use condom is always good way for contraception and prevention of infection/STDs. Some boys always against it, which causes girls to take those pills (OTC or morning after), all seem bad for the girls. We have to be certain about the condoms for protection of ourselves. well, as a lady, I understand… Take care of yourself! Best to you and all!

after taking the pill i had major stomach pain. two weeks later i started my period i stayed on my period for about two weeks and went of for about a week and came back on…is something should i go see a doctor ????

i took the morning after pill less than 12 hours after conception, and i felt ok, my period was a bit late but fine and normal for me, i dont know if im pregnant thou, is there still a chance?

I just have to say it feels so much better knowing that I’m not the only one having all these things happen to me. I’ve been reading and so many of these things I’ve worried about other people have written about.

Right now I’m so worried. I took the morning after pill twice in June because me and my boyfriend were getting paranoid about me getting pregnant. The condoms kept breaking or slipping and even though we were careful we thought it would be better to take the pill. I then got a period 2 weeks early, around the 23rd June. I’m pretty sure it was my period because it went for the normal amount of time. The time before then I got my period was the 7th June. I usually get my period the first week of the month.

I still haven’t gotten my period. I’ve been feeling very slow, and not quite right. I can sense there’s someone not quite right in my body. I’ve been feeling bloated, having breakouts, and having stomach cramps. I’ve taken the morning after pill before and my body usually takes awhile to settle back into normal routine. I’ve taken 2 pregnancy tests and they’ve both been negative. I’m so strung out over this- will try to see a women’s health clinic this week.

I had my last pariod on the 5th of july, i had unprotected sex on the 9th/10th of july, i didnt get the morning after pill till the monday which was about 84 hrs after it happening, it say take within 72hrs but from reading all the comments i noticed you;s took 2 pills 12 hrs apart i was only giving 1 pill!

A week after taking the pill i got alight bit of bleeding for a day or 2, would this be clased as a period.
My normal period was due 2 days ago!
What are my changes of becoming pregenant?

(Majella) The light bleed is not a period. The MAP can cause bleeding. If you are late on your period do a pregnancy test because there is a chance you are pregnant. The morning after pill (MAP) can also cause you to be late but just as a precaution I would do a pregnancy test.

This is the second time i have taken the morning after pill. Both times it has had the same effect on me, except this time not as horrible or painfull as the last. The first time i took it i was probably a day or so away from starting my period, and i took it just to be safe, within 24 hours, i was in so much pain i could barely sleep. i kept waking up every couple hours with almost unbearable abdominal pains… and within another day or so i started what i beleived to be my period.. but my cycle is very very irregular so im not sure if it was caused by the pill. The unbearable pains lasted for a whole week. About a week ago (almost a year after i had taken plan b for the first time) i took it again. For about a week i was fine, but then last night i kept waking up with the same pains only less painfull than what i remember. It almost feels like a gassy feeling. It just feels like gas you cant get rid of or pass, but in the abdominal area. Its not unbearable but very uncomfortable, and i have also started bleeing…which again, im not sure if its my period or effects of the pill.

So i had unprotected sex on saturday night and sunday evening my bf went out to buy me the after pill i took the pill and that night i felt real exhausted then monday morning every inch in my body hurt even my skin showering was painful. i took the 2nd pill and i felt nauseated and i was throwing up all day and been feeling dizzy and had a fever even now. i just feel real weak dizzy and nauseated and my throat hurts. and thnx to all these blogs i know that all of this is normal but i just hate feeling sick.

I took the morning after pill for the first time and a week after taking I experienced bleeding which was quite early considering it was’nt yet time for my period and I have been bleeding for eight days when will it stop!!?? My periods are usually 4 to 5 days at the most! I wish it would stop!! Im miserable!

I took the morning after pill almost three days ago now and have really only had “period” pain and in the last day quite a lot of discharge but no spotting, or any blood at all…yet. Does this mean its not working orrrr i’m pregnant or that i’m just impatient???

(Keyana) The bleeding associated with the morning after pills(MAP) is not you mentstral. When you do stop bleeding which can last up to 3-weeks depending on your body and hormones then it is the waiting game. Because you wait for you period to come the next month and usually it is late by atleast a week. Once this happens then you’ll know for sure you are not pregnant. Also, the breasts being sore is completely normal with the MAP.
((CATE)) It could be a number of things. When did you take the MAP was it within the time limit. I hate to tell you but, I had a friend that took the MAP at the 36 hour mark and she had the same symptoms as you (this was back when the MAP had both hormones in it) but, she got pregnant. She refused an abortion but it didn’t matter her body ended up losing the baby at right around 20-weeks gestation. She was devested and i’ll tell you what she never made a mistake like that again. But, if you end up missing your period then you need to do an EPT. If it is negative and you are more then 2-weeks late go to the doctor. Sometimes the bleeding associated with the MAP is becaue the body is expelling a fertilized egg so maybe you just never had a ferilized egg to expell and that is why you haven’t bled. So don’t get to worried yet.

ANNA- that comment scared me so much! And yes, i took it not even 10 hours after… The thing is also i never know when my period comes, its so irregular and i miss some months aswell anyway. I went to the doc and got a blood test..even though the deed was done 5 days ago… Everyone i’ve asked (including a nurse) thinks i should be fine…

(Cate) I am glad all is well I didn’t mean to scare you I just know that in some cases if you take the MAP too late it can result in a pregnancy. But, since you are an irregular bleeder such as I am I wouldn’t worry too much about not bleeding.

i took the morning after pill on tuesday afternoon, after unprotected sex on monday morning. on the first day or two after taking it i was completely fine and didn’t really have any symptoms. today and yesterday i have been experiencing very mild stomoch cramps and have a lot more saliva in my mouth?! i’m guessing it’s too early to be experiencing implantation symptoms?!!!

(Lori) I am sorry to say but, I have never heard of someone taking the MAP more than 72 hours later and it working. I am not saying that it is impossible but that really is quite late. Take an EPT 5-days before your missed period it will give you + if you are pregnant.((Helen)) It is too early for you to be experiencing implantation side effects but and the MAp has many of the same side effects as being pregnant if you took the MAp withing the alotted time which it sounds like you have then I think you should be fine but, if you miss your period just take an EPT if it is – then you may just be late. This also is a symptoms of the MAP.

hi everyone.
I am on the LEVLEN pill which i take everyday at 5 o’clock. Sunday morning (16 days ago) i had sex with my partner and the condom broke and he had already ejaculated into me before we noticed. Anyway, i had just got off my period the day before and had take the first brown pill after the last of the sugar pills. I stressed out and straight away took a brown pill that was ment to be taken later that day a 5 o’clock. Still stressing i had the idea of the M.A.P so 4 hours later i rushed to the chemist and took the M.A.P. last wednesday (5 days ago) i started having pain in my lower stomach and also a sore back and dizzyness. I am quite scared that i could be pregnant or have a tubal pregnancy? Please help!!!!

Well, I had sex for the first time, on 08.08.09 me and my partner did not use a condom, we used the “pull out” method. I was supposed to be getting my period anytime that week. He finished and as he pulled out he came ON me.. not in me. He was paranoid about Pre-Cum, so after that we went to Walgreens to buy the Plan B pill. About an hour and a half to two hours later, I took the pill. Then twelve hours later I took the second one. The next day I had spotted but I guess it was regular for that being my first time. Then I got really bloated and then i got diarreah. For about 8 days i’ve had a hard stomach.. right above my crotch area, (and it was very unconfortable for a while) back pains and i’ve had to pee alot. I’m wondering if this is normal? I’m scared I might be pregnant because I have not got my period yet, and I am supposed too.. anyone have an answer for me!?!?

Me and my boyfriend always use condoms when we have sex, but last night we decided to take it off, and he came inside me. Just this past saturday when we were doing it the condom broke but he didn’t come in me… but I was worried about the pre come. Today was my second time taking he Plan B pil this month, and I’m worried that it might not be as effective because I jut took one not to long ago. Should I be worried?

I’m not sure if anyone is going to read this far down but I looked up alot about the morning after pill and alot of thm said that if you are throwing up then you should take another pill because that is a side effect of the pill not working, but all the week long periods and your stomach and back hurting and tender breast are normal. But a few sites have also said that if you hear from someone that those are the side effects then don’t believe them. But I think from reading from real people about this and them going threw it know that, who ever wrote that is a crock!

All the pain and misery on this board that demonstrates so starkly how dangerous and unhealthy these breast cancer causing steroids are to women – but that won’t stop a pharmaceutical rep like you from coming on here and encouraging more misery and making sure women keep chemically aborting their children with this human pesticide. Ok, Stop being so paranoid all of you ok! Second most bleeding after taking MAP is because of the hormone. The chances of being late on the next period is pretty good take an EPT to be sure. As for Bhutto go pray and leave us real women alone. If any of you girls need more info let me know i’ll give you guilt free advice from someone who cares.

((andrea)) it is common that when someone lose their virginity before their period is suppose to come..they can miss their period until the next month or it can come late. i think those symptoms that you are having are from the pill.

i hope someone still reads this i am so stressed. i am not sure when i ovulated. i had unprotected sex weds. night. took plan b around 4am thursday morning. since then i have been nauseated, breast tenderness, tired, and bloated. no spotting or bleeding occurred though. my period is due on the 29th. is this a possible pregnancy or just a side effect of the contraception?

i took the day after pill 6 days ago. ive been having severe stomach cramps, slight nausea, and heavy, heavy bleeding. ive had a constant, slight headache also. im only 5′2 and 110 lbs. could this be contributing to the side effects?

(honey) it sounds like it is just your body type and hormones you are producing. Every woman reacts differently to this drug. I know I had almost no side effects when I took it but, I had been on birth control for years and after having my 3rd kid i weigh 30 pounds more and I noticed us “thicker” girls don’t tend to have as bad of side effects as you smaller girls.

okk.. this is kind of complicated but please someone with advice help me.. i have been on birth control ( pill form) for about 3 years now.. havent missed a pill ever..about 2 weeks ago i was on antibotics, which i believe cancelles out the pill.. anyways while i was on the antibotic which was for seven days, i got my period. this past friday i was stupid and allowed my boyfriend to go inside of me. first and last time. i went and took the morning after pill on sunday. and today is the day that i should normally get my period, its my no pill week, and i always get in on tuesday. haven’t gotten it yet and im a super worry wart. do i have anything to worry about? i wasnt sure if because i had my period while on the antibotics i wouldn’t get it now, or if the morning after pill is messing with me or what….

I am just wondering because not all antibiotics mess with birth control. I have taken antibiotics while on birth control and it not effect them. So now you are on the no pill week and haven’t bled this could be just because you had bled the week before. Heres the thing our bodies react weird if we have some kind of infection that causes us to need antibiotics. I have gotten really bad sinus infections and had my period start early and the docor said it was my bodies way of healing and that a woman bleeds to help clean out impurities in the body aside from allowing us to get pregnant. I don’t know for a fact but I don’t think it has been long enough since unprotected sex for you to already be experiencing a missed period from a pregnancy. You have so many other factors in the way it’s hard to say. hey I took the morning after pill about two weeks ago about an hour after id havd unprotected I felt really sick and couldnt get out of bed and than about a week and a half after I took a pregnancy test and it showd up positive but today I started bleeding and I had only just finished my period 2 days before I took the morning after pill can you help me whats goin on.

I had unprotected sex last Wednesday night (during my most fertile time), took the Plan B pill around 4 pm on Thursday but didn’t take the 2nd pill until around noon on Friday..my breasts are SO sore and they’ve definitely gotten bigger in a short amount of time (I can’t fit into my bras anymore, without my boobs spilling out, and I went two weeks ago for a fitting!!).

My period isn’t due for another two weeks or so and I am SO TERRIFIED that I might be pregnant! I haven’t had any spotting yet. I have been nauseaous late at night and when I wake up in the morning.

Are these just side effects or do ya’ll think I might be pregnant? I’m worried that because I didn’t take the 2nd pill twelve hours after the first one, that the Plan B just didn’t work at all…

I had sex last night + to cut a long story short; I’d missed a pill last week, I was late for college yesterday so I didn’t take my pill when I normally do + then we got a little carried away. sounds bad, I know, but people make mistakes. I’ve taken the Levonelle pill once before so I kinda knew what to expect; weird spotting, nausea, etc. what I wanna ask is, how long after you’ve taken Levonelle can you take a pregnancy test + get an accurate result? I’ve been told you have to wait three weeks, in ‘normal’ circumstances, isit the same in this situation?

Anyway,Ok (Erryn) you should not take a pee pregnancy test so soon after taking MAP because it can give a false positive because of all the hormones in your urine. (Caitlin)You sound like you are experiencing side effects. If your period is late then worry about taking a test. But just a little F.Y.I. the Map can make you late… kinda sucks huh because your waiting for your period to know your not pregnant and the damn MAP makes you late it’s not very fair.(Kailani) I wouldn’t do a test yet because the MAP can give you a false positive wait until you actually miss your period then do one but just an F.Y.I. you can still get a false postive even if you missed your period because of the hormones in your urine. I just took the pill yesterday…The doctor told me that these side effects could be present for up to 14 days, and that spotting was normal. It doesn’t indicate whether or not the pill is effective. It’s only a side effect of the pill itself, so not to worry. As to abdominal pain, I’d say just ask your doctor.

I took the pill on August 23rd and had hot flashes and horrible diarrhea the day of. I know this is normal, but I’ve been successively losing more weight. Scarey stuff! You girls all need to fully inform yourselves before taking any drugs that have such serious side effects. Many of the women who are taking the MAP have no idea what the pill actually contains, each table contains 750 micograms of levonorgestrel. This dose is 50 times stronger than standard progestogen-only contraceptive pills. This is a synthetic hormone concocted to interfer with your own regular hormone patterns. There are absolutely no long term studies done on the MAP to see what long term effects will happen to women.
I cannot believe the amount of people on here who are encouraging women who have had unprotected sex to pop these tablets without the thought of long term consequences on their bodies!
When I read the side effects you women are having – sore breasts, headaches, mood swings (caused by huge doses of progestogen), hot flushes and the list goes on. I wonder what has become of our own common sense to realise when something that is supposed to help us has such horrible effects, can possible be good for our physical and emotional well being! What is more abhorrent is the fact that many are using these pills as a regular contraceptive choice. I took the MAP about 9 days ago. And I still havent got my period. I am a little nervous only because perviously I was on birth control (Depo) and when I was on it I barely had my period it would just be slight spotting every now and then, so I dont know when my period is going to start. after I took the MAP was when I just missed my due date for the depo shot so I’m not sure if I’m suppose to get my period right away or wait. (Josie) I have had that same experience. This was many years ago though. I don’t know if the depo is the same or different now. I took Depo for years until I started to get migraines all the time and the doctor took me off. My experience was that I had forgotten that my shot was due was in a committed relationship so we never used condoms. I realized two days later I was late for my shot so I went out got the MAP from Planned Parenthood. I did not have a menstural for about 6-weeks which really sucked because I couldn’t get my next shot till i had a period and then a negative pregnancy test. GOOD LUCK I WHISH YOU WELL.

Ok ALL you girls that experienced bleeding after the MAP it is NOT a period. The MAP causes bleeding for up to 6-weeks. Once you stop bleeding and your period is due the MAP can cause your next period to be up to 2-weeks late. If your period has not come on by then do a EPT. If you experience any one sided abdominal pain in the mean time (with or with out blood) seek out medical treatment NOW! This could be a result of a tubal pregnancy and if it ruptures it can kill you. Hope I answered all of your questions if not post them here and i’ll answer as many as I can.

These steroid MAP pills CAUSE ectopic pregnancies, and mask the symptoms as they do so. An abortion will be necessary if you are ectopic. Of course, the pills cause abortions also – so again this is the worst of both worlds. Don’t screw up your own body just to destroy your child’s with this crap. You’ve never met a solitary mother who ever said a child ruined her life, did you? Only women who look back on a chemical or surgical abortion and “live with it every day.”

i had to take the morning after pill about a week ago due to unprotected sex…the next day i started to have cramps and 2 days later i started to spot. now it has been 7 days in and i have been bleeding for 4 days…mind u i had my period 1 week before all of this happened. it seems as though this may be happening to every1, but i am still very worried. i haven’t yet went to my gyno but my pcp said it was called “breakthrough” bleeding, but didn’t explain it in detail. I’m sorry if you are experiencing a lot of side effects and if you have NOT used MAP before and are curious: please know that these side effects do not happen for everyone! I’ve taken it before and I was completely fine. The only effect I experienced was the worry of whether it worked.

This time around, 2 days after I took MAP I’ve had slight cramping in the abdominal area and 5 days after, brown blood discharge.

I wish you all luck and hope the side effects disappear soon. Just remember, the best way to avoid falling pregnant and being in this situation is to always make sure you are prepared and have protection.

I took MAP two hours after unprotected sex. My major side effects have been INCREDIBLY sore breasts and the worst depression ever. Then again, the depression could be caused by anxieties that I could be prego. This has been hell and I’m never having sex again!!

On my hols I needed to take a morning after pill (Levonelle 1500 mic). Before I took it I went on to this site, to read the reviews on it. I wish I never as there was more neg then pos. Well I still needed to take this pill, and there was no neg. Did not feel sick, no bleeding, no tender breast, and no headache. So don’t let this site put u off in taking the pill.

9 Years ago I took the morning after pill about 36 hours after having unprotected sex. I took the 2 doses exactly as the instruction said and I felt fine. I had no nausea, no pains, nothing. If anything I felt better but that was probably because I thought my worries were over.

About 4 weeks later, on New Years Day, having slept through most of Christmas feeling inexplicably tired, I realised something was up. I realised I hadn’t had my period and I got really really scared. I went to the chemist, got a pregnancy test and came home and did it. My worst fears were realised – I was pregnant. I had horrible morning sickness all day everyday and I ended up miscarrying 3 months into the pregnancy but that was apparently not related to the pill.

THE FACT IS THAT EVEN IF YOU TAKE IT PROPERLY IT DOESN’T ALWAYS WORK. I think what happened is that the egg implanted really quickly before I took the pill and my body balanced out the hormones so it survived.

Has anyone ever had any other kind of allergic reaction? I took the morning after pill on Monday and had a fever that night. Then on Tuesday these bump, that looked like spider bites, started to show up around my mid section. Since I thought it was spider bites, I washed all my sheets and comforter, pillows etc. only to wake up the next day with more bumps. Last time I was on the Nuvaring I had a similar reaction but thought it was spider bites then as well. Has anyone had anything similar?

Hi, I took Levonelle about two maybe three months ago now after a mishap with not knowing antibiotics cancel the pill. I experienced some small spotting during the next four weeks.

After a negative pregnancy test result, I was told the spotting was a normal side effect.

I’ve since started a new pill packet after having a 7 day break. Just over a week in, I’ve experienced light spotting everyday for about 3 days now.

Is this still a side effect from the Levonelle?

i had unprocteted sex te same day i got off my period and that same day i took the next choice pill as indicated,exactly a week after i started bleeding again i called a clinic and they told me that the was normal i been feeling really sleepy and tired and im wondering if im pregnant or those are just side effects its been about 12 days since i took the pill.

I took it while ovulating. I then read AFTER I took it that it is really not effective if taken when ovulating or after and that really pisses me off as most women are taking it to prevent pregnancy and I feel it is false advertisement! We used a spermacide condom that got stuck inside when he was done. So now I am feeling pinching AND my boobs are swollen. I guess I’m pregnant? This sucks. Someone needs to get the word out that Plan B wont really help you when you ovulate.
Most women take it when they don’t really need to take it so of course the effectiveness can be up to 95%.
I want to hear of women who took it when ovulating and DIDNT get pregnant… THAT seems to be hard to find!

I took the morning after pill on a Sunday night immediately after having unprotected sex and today is a Tuesday night. I’ve been experiencing really bad nausea, lower back pains, lower abdominal pains, and dizziness. I don’t know if this is normal. I haven’t been able to eat much because everything makes me gag. The sight of food and different odors make me sick. The nausea gets really bad at night to the point where I’m huddled near the toilet in case I vomit.

So I took the pill two weeks ago on Thursday…started to bleed the following Wednesday…and i’m still bleeding 9 days to be exact….I’m sorry but I must ask, WTF?!! This is abnormal….no…no….this is some paranormal activity if you ask me. I would like to be blood free down there….What the hell is going on? I’m definitely going to the doctor tomorrow. I don’t believe I should be bleeding this long. It seems like an eternity.

Well i took the morning after pill when it first came out, i will never take it again. I take Birth control now, so i dont have to worry. But the i had an allerigic reaction to the morining after pill. i broke out all over my face around my mouth and body, i was itchy for like two weeks. my mom is a nurse so she figured it was something i had taken because i broke out around my mouth first. Then i told her i took the morning after pill, she said the hormones must have been to strong for me. Best thing is to take it if you have to , then get on some sort of birth control.

i took the morning after pill about month and a half ago, and have had my period twice since, but every time afte rmy period i get pains in my back and belly, and get quite a few headaches, is this just a normal side effect of the pill or do i need to go see someone about this?

well, let’s start at the beginning. i started my period on the 13th of October, and it ended on the 19th. Soon after it ended, i had unprotected sex with a friend twice. In between these two instances, i took the MAP.

at first, i felt fine. i remember having some cramping and being a little dizzy, but other than that i felt no side effects. however, 9 days later (29 October) i started bleeding again. this was more like a normal period, and lasted exactly 8 days, which is normal for me.

i had sex on halloween, (3 days after i started bleeding) and the period finally stopped exactly 8 days later, on the 5th of November.

Now, here’s the kicker:

Exactly 8 days after ending my period, i got it again, after having had sex twice during my “dry spell”. i was shocked to find that i was bleeding again on the 12th of November, and i have been to this day (17th).

at first, i flipped out thinking that it could be implantation bleeding, (the blood spots some women experience when pregnant) but after thinking about it and reading through a few articles, i’m almost 100% positive that i’m not pregnant. the blood has been dark and thick, and has lasted almost a week, as opposed to the 1-2 day bleeding/light spotting pregnant women experience. even though the blood colour is similar, it’s been way too long.

yet this doesn’t feel like a regular period. on one hand it’s lighter than normal (though still dark), but on the other hand, it’s heavy enough so that i have to wear a pad and can’t ignore it. i’m also feeling rather itchy near my vagina, which is strange because i’ve never had a yeast infection in my life.

i took a pregnancy test today, and it came back negative. however, since my periods have been so out of whack the last few weeks, i have no idea when i’m supposed to start my real period again. so, i have no idea when to take another pregnancy test, just for the sake of accuracy. advice?

I am now concerned and am after some advice, I managed to get away before ejaculation would you still suggest that I take the Morning After Pill??

(Hayley) Kerry is right you need to take the MAP. I actually have been in a situation similar to your when I was 17-years old. I was raped while sleeping and awoke to it happening to me. The person was an ex that broke into my home. Unfourtantly I was not on birth control because I was not in a relationship at the time and had no need for it. I was instructed by the doctor that did my physical to take the MAP because I could have gotten pregnant from the pre-cum. I did as instructed and never had any side effects besides bleeding. This also was back when the map had both hormones in it, it now only has one. Anyway, thought I’d share a little I have only told 2-people my whole life about that and my husband is one of them.
