Bone Loss Facts You Need To Know

Sunday October 14, 2007
Even if you're not one of the ten million people in the U.S. over the age of 50 who currently have osteoporosis, you might be one of the more than 34 million who have osteopenia -- a bone disease that significantly increases the risk of osteoporosis developing later.

Osteoporosis is a fairly well-known bone disease in which bone mass or density is lost and bones become extremely fragile, breaking easily. Osteopenia is a less-known bone disease characterized by low bone density and bone weakness that has not progressed to actual loss of bone density. Is bone loss in your future?

Is there a difference in Boniva and actonel in the cast/blast process. I had osteoprosis in my hip and osteopenia in my spine. I began taling actonel every week for two years on the next bone scan there was no sign of the osteopenia and an inprovement in the hips. I switched to Boniva once a month but have not had my bone scan yet. Do you think it will matter which one I take?
Thanks
