I’m past menopause now, but I always wore tampons because they were so much more comfortable than napkins, which I found nearly intolerable. However, I always had pain when sliding the tampons in and pulling them out. Eventually I discovered I had a condition called vulvar vestibulitis — which is not very well known (and is associated with lots of issues more serious than pain on tampon insertion).
