(1) Suzy says:

Every single time my husband and I have sex, I get a UTI (urinary tract
infection). At first, I didn’t know how it was happening but then it became apparent that it was from intercourse. My OB/GYN told me to call my PCP to either see a Urologist, or maybe he could do something. He did! He gave me 30
“MacroBid” capsules (prescription). I take one after intercourse, plus I
drink tons of cranberry juice and water. The next night I usually take
another MacroBid, just to be safe and sure that I’m ok. We like to have spontaneous sex as much as possible, but if we make a night for
a date, I will take a MacroBid the day before the “date” as I found
through trial and error that taking a capsule the night before, night of and the night after works the best for me. I’m just so happy that I don’t have to deal with those
incredibly painful UTI’s!!!

This used to happen to me when I first started having sex using Latex condoms, or even condoms with spermicide on it. I just came to a conclusion that I am allergic to latex. After switching to Trojans Polyurethane condoms (black/gold box) the issues is pretty much gone. Have your man wash his hands and even around his ‘member’ before sex. Sweat and dirt can also cause burning (at least for me). Hope that helps!

I NOTICE THAT ALOT OF TIMES AFTER SEX, I’LL LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND IT SEEMS LIKE THE SKIN BETWEEN THE VAGINA AND THA ANUS IS RIPPED, SO WHEN I GO TO THE BATHROOM IT STINGS REALLY BAD BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE ITS CUT. BUT THEN THE NEXT DAY IT’S BACK IN TACT AND DOESN’T HURT, DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHY THIS MIGHT BE OTHER THAN MAYBE BEING DRY SOMETIMES?

I also get a painful feeling, while urinating, following intercourse. It is something I am used to now. My doctor told me it is very important to pee following sex. It apparently gets rid of some bad stuff. Like I said in a previous post, I drink tons of cranberry juice following sex. It makes everything feel better!

Hi Suzy,
my suggestion would be to use a lubricant like Just Like Me when you have intercourse as this will relieve the “dryness” and it’s Ph balanced to mimic a woman’s natural secretions. If this continues; see your doctor.

I have recently been suffering from the same problem. Almost every time I have se with my partner I seem to get a urine infection. This went n for to long and I went to the doctor who refered me to the hospital.

They said it is extremelly common, and I am waiting t go for a very small operation to stretch the uterus. Doc says 99% of the time this is the cause and all should be fine afterwards.

Worth while looking into. My mums friend had the same problem, had this minor prcedure done and has had no problems since.

I experienced sting feeling when I take shower after sex, it was then I realized it was the skin torn at the bottom entrance of viginal. I examined it with a mirror. So, the sting is not from infection, but a natural result after sex.

(21) Patricia says:

I hope you ladies go back and read these replies! Im 34, mother of 3. For years I did not suffer from VB or yeast infections or urinary tract pain. however, after a few new partners and exposure to an std at one point, I now seem to be prone to all of the above. I had a partner for 8 years, and now a new one of 2 yrs. With both partners, whenever I have sex without a condom, I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get vaginal bacteriosis! I mean this became a terrible thing. And embarassing. I would sometimes live with it and periodically go to dr for another round of antibiotics. I would wash several times a day and directly following sex. It was terrible. But I was usually able to keep the smell away from my partner. Then a very awesome great thing happened to me. I moved to Portland, OR and after couple of months living there, it was time for another trip to the Dr! I did not have insurance so thank goodness for Planned Parenthood. They gave me a prescription just like I’d always gotten, but on the back of the sheet describing the antibiotic, it suggested a simple home remedy for women prone to VB. Make homemade vaginal capsule suppositories of boric acid!

Please dont pay for any book or secret! I’ve seen a couple of those links trying to steal money unfortunately. This home remedy will cost about $10 in supplies that could realistically last about a year or so. Totally natural for your body.

1. Purchase a bottle of powdered BORIC ACID at your local pharmacy. All Long’s and Walgreens have them. If you cannot find one, ask the pharmacist. They usually have some in back in pharmacy stock, if not on the shelves. You do not need a prescription for this.

2. You will need to purchase empty pill capsules. Some pharmacies carry these, but I suggest getting the completely vegan 100% vegetable material ones at Whole Foods. They only cost a few dollars for bag of 100 or so.

3. Make sure your hands and work surface are very clean. The method to fill the capsules that I have found works best is to pour some boric acid powder into a very small bowl or cup. Pick up and pull apart one capsule, holding half of it in each hand. Sort of scoop them both towards each other at same time, filling them with powder. Fit the two pieces of the capsule together by gently pushing and wiggling them until they fit snugly. Hold the capsule over the bowl while you close it to avoid wasting powder.

4. Insert 1-2 capsules vaginally, every 6 hrs, as needed. I have found that about 4-6 hours after inserting the capsule, I have a flood of watery discharge, so I pair the treatment with either a tampon or pad to catch the excess discharge. Discharge while usually watery, can sometimes be chalky, with some of the powder.

This treatment works extremely well for both yeast infections as well as VB. I have suffered from VB over and over so many times that I almost immediately know I have something weird going on in my downstairs mixup! I will give myself a nighttime treatment and usually that will nip it in the bud and Im good. This is so amazing and it really works.

Regarding exreme menstrual cramps and bothersome urinary tract pain that I was getting, I also did some research and found that MOST tampons and pads have bleaches and other additives (including asbestos) that make you bleed more often and therefore use more product! Just because products are approved by the FDA doesn’t mean they’re good for you. So I switched to healthier products with no bleach or other chemical additives (avail again at whole foods & trader joe’s)and all of my sypmptoms stopped. Due to my financial situation, I could not afford to keep buying the more expensive products, so I went back to regular products, and my symptoms have returned.

Regarding one other poster’s question about irritatin and ivory soap. Ivory soap is not necessarily a very mild soap. If you are experiencing irritation, I would recommend trying a clear glycerin soap, with no dye or perfume additives. These are available at Long’s as well, in the beauty section.

Hope this helps. Thanks.

(22) Patricia says:

Just re-read my post…couple things I forgot to mention

1. When inserting the capsules, just insert as far as comfortable, using your finger. Just like an O.B. tampon.

2. You do not have to remove any part of the capsule, as it will dissolve inside you. Sometimes you will see no powder or capsule fragments at all, other times remains are visible on the tampon when I remove it. All capsules are made to be digested by our bodies, but since these are being inserted vaginally rather than swallowed, I always buy the purely veggie capsules, that are 100% completely safe to dissolve inside your vagina, “just to be safe”

3. I dont always have time to sit down and make these, so what I like to do is make the whole batch at once, then roll a couple between my palms to dust off excess powder. Then I store them in a jar in a convenient location like my medecine cabinet in the bathroom. My boyfriend even knows about them and I just say they’re my girl’s (vagina’s) medicine. He’s just glad they work since he knows it bothers me.

4. My daughters are all teenagers, and although they get embarassed to talk about it sometimes, 2 of the 3 have had a few yeast infections. This has worked extremely well for both of them. I keep them handy and they know where to find them if they need them.

5. I read an article in a women’s health magazine with interesting information about VB, I wish i would have made a note of the source but unfortunately, I did not. The article said that some women are more sensitive than others to the level of acidity in some men’s sperm. It mentioned that when in a long term or married relationship, when condoms are not being used, they can develop a vaccine from a sperm sample, to give the female partner, which they have had great success with! The vaccine sounds extreme to me, but I found the information about the level of acidity very helpful, and it makes sense why then the boric acid can be so helpful, and explains why different partners semen will affect your body in different ways. I have also since read that the level of acidity in a man’s semen not only varies from person to person, but is also highly influenced by their diet. (Since my parnter began eating a healthy diet, my reaction to his semen has been much less severe to almost none!)

6. I also HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this book, put together in Canada, for women’s health. Its awesome. “Hot Pantz: Do It Yourself Gynecology” its full of time tested home remedies women have been using for generations to deal with gynecological problems.

7. You probably think I’m a hippie weirdo! But just think, that traditionally most Drs and Gynocologists have not been women. And even in cases where there ARE women Drs, they are usually instructed in medical schools by MEN. Men do not have a great track record of inventing the best products and treatments for women’s health. This is in no way intended to be male-bashing, but instead to encourage you to use discretion and critical thinking to read all packaging and labels of all food and products that are put in your body and on your skin. Even menstrual pads that are not inserted vaginally such as a tampon, still come into contact with your mucus membranes. That means that we are especially sensitive to whatever touches there and more easily absorb substances through mucus membrane tissue than other skin areas, and we absorb upwards of 80% of whatever we apply to our skin in through our pores. So think carefully about what products you use. Realize that only in our grandmother’s generation were disposable feminine hygiene products introduced. Before that, we all used cloths and various other organic methods. Im not suggesting that you begin using cloths if that doesnt feel comfortable to you, however, pls think about the health store variety of non bleached and additive free products.

thanks again. good luck to you all!

(24) Anna says:

I think this has to do w/ sex but I’m not sure. To describe where exactly the itching is I’ll saying I’m laying on my back and JUST inside the vagina, there’s that first cushiony thing at the top where if you push out you can feel it. I don’t know if that’s descriptive enough but if you lay on your back, it’s the first thing at the top of the entrance to the vagina you feel, very cushiony feel to it and maybe a TINY bit lumpy or has ridges or however you describe it (just a txture, not a symptom).

But lately that’s itchy and when I pee, it’s itchy but only when it gets towards the end of peeing it’s burns. And when I look in the toilet there’s a very FAINT bit of blood (I mean VERY faint trace) and also a little left on the toilet paper after wiping.

I don’t know if this is just from having sex more frequently with my boyfriend (we were both tested before we slept togehter) and I’m not sure if I get dry and the condom kind of tears it a little but is this something that I can take care of from over the counter things or is it something I have to go to the doctor for? I know obviously teh doctor is a safest bet, but not having insurance can be a bit much, just didn’t know how extreme this was ..

Thanks so much for any help!

Hello Anna,
I had this problem with burning pee and faint blood in it several years ago. My doctor told me that it is UTI and all I have to do is drink much more than I do – that my urine in the bladder gets thicker and all those bacteria get more concentrated, happy and multiply :-) (well not in exactly these words, but this is well.
So – make sure you drink a lot, especially now in summer!

Everytime after I have sex with a condom, I feel like I get really raw and I burn like crazy, especially after urine gets in it. I get UTIs often and do not feel like this is a symptom of a UTI, as I have no pressure. I have tried lube and it still happens. Is there any cream or anything that I can use to comfort the area until it heals? Will it ever stop happening everytime I have sex? I do not have sex often, so this may be why. Feeling like this everytime, I don’t want to have sex often.

(37) taylor says:

if you are sexually active, no matter if youre 17 years old or thirty, you need to have a gynecological exam every year. it is very very important…if youre going to be acting like an adult and having sex, then you need to act like an adult and take the proper precautions.

if youre experiencing itching, chances are good you have a yeast infection, if youre experiencing burning chances are you have a uti….the transfer of bacteria from your anus to your girly parts is the number 1 reason for these infections…itching and burning can also either be bacterial vaginosis. all of which need to be treated.

and even if youre a virgin, you can still have any of these conditions…..sex provokes all of these infections, but anytime the ph level of your vagina is changed it can cause an infection…from different soaps, perfumes, leaving a damp swimsuit on, not wearing cotton underwear, or wiping wrong can all cause infection.

-always pee after sex, the reason for this is because the female urethra is short, only a few inches, it is very easy for bacteria to travel up and cause infection. the act of sex doesnt cause infection, but your anus is home to the bacteria called e. coli. e.coli is the most common cause of urinary tract infections and since the anus is so close to the urethra, the movement during sex helps to transport e.coli to your urethra. peeing after sex helps to wash the e.coli out of your urethra. the reason cranberry pills, or cranberry juice helps is because cranberry is acidic and it makes the walls of your urethra acidic and slippery and the bacteria has a harder time staying in there. if youre going to go the cranberry juice route, make sure its cranberry juice and not cranberry cocktail. cocktail doesnt work. cranberry pills taken daily are easier than drinking gallons of juice as well.

women also need to wipe front to back after peeing…again with the e.coli in your anus, if you wipe from back to front, you will be transferring e.coli from your anus into your urethra and into your vagina ….e.coli is the main reason for yeast infections and uti’s.

i have had dozens of infections over the years and i have quite a bit of knowledge on this annoying but very very common issue…i take a cranberry pill daily and pee after sex everytime and my infections are few and far between now…i still get the occasional uti or yeast infection, but everyone does!!

to all you young girls who are having sex please go see a doctor…your parents do not have to know, you can go to planned parenthood, or any womens clinic, its all confidential. take care of your body!!!!

In response to Erika,

I am currently experiencing this same issue. =/ I mean, the feeling of having sexual intercourse does feel good, but when I want to urinate after I sometimes get scared for the fact that I tend to burn; && just recently after sex, after I urinated I wiped myself && I too noticed that I had a light pink [blood?] on the tissue……. I am scared, because before this happened, I was getting itchy; Not in my vagina, but around my labia. When this would happen, I notice it when my hair around “down there” would start growing back. Yes, I shave all my hair below. ^_^

Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be the problem??

i had sex for the first time ever a few days ago, my boyfriend used a latex condom. I have itching around the entrance to my vagina, but i have none of the itching or burning when i urinate. it seems like the itching is on the outside and just inside a little bit. could it just be a tear, or is it more likely a latex allergy? i also have no unusual discharge or any other symptoms. he was tested for STDs and is clean for that. ive read all the other comments, but it seems most other women’s itching includes itching and burning during urination – i have absolutely zero of that symptom.

This is in reply to Shay #3. I hope you get to read this. You just described the syptoms on herpes. 1 out of 5 poeple have herpes and the symptoms are exactly as you described it. You get burning and feeling of small “cuts” in the area between your vagina and anal area and the next day it can go away… I’m not positive you may have an STD but I would definately go see a Dr. and ask for a SDI test for herpes 1 and 2 to make sure. it’s one of the most common types of causes of irritation. An you can transmit it from kissing and oral sex too! Make sure if you aren’t steady with the guy to break out the saran wrap if he wants to go down there. Also wash immediately after sex every time with soap and water. Never fall asleep after sex make sure you run to the tub and wash before bed. Hope I helped a bit. Take care.

When I first started dating my husband, it seemed that I came down with a UTI or Yeast Infection every other week. This made our lives miserable for about 8 months. I finally researched the possible causes and saw on several websites that some women are allergic to certain laundry detergents. I was never affected any where else on my body. However, I guess because I was washing my underwear in his detergent and it was up against me “there” all the time that it started to cause problems. So, I switched my detergent and like magic the problems went away. Just letting you know if this happens to you!!!

This is for Shay(#3), to be honest NO that doesn’t sound like Herpes, I have herpes & my first in fact my only outbreak was similar to that but it last more than one day & you need medications as well as ointments to help cure even faster & still then it won’t be healed the next day. I’ve also had those symptoms before & even now but its because I’m not well lubricated & because sometimes he may be entering too low (if that makes sense to you) if the cut looks like a blister then worry but even then if you do have herpes your world is not over. It seems like it but w/ proper knowledge & care you’ll be fine. And NO you don’t necessarily get herpes sleeping around. This is something very common in & is mainly picked up by little kids & if you have a cold sore & mess w/ it or go down on your partner guess what? You have just gave your partner std’s & not always will you get herpes right away. You can go many times before you become infected. And you will not now if you have herpes unless you have a present outbreak.

I’m so happy to have read your post about something like this that can be used, because all the other remedies are very expensive and not at all natural (other than yogurt). I’m just thrilled! Thank you thank you!!!!

Hey all. Doesn’t this suck. Unfortunately its a reality.
I’m currently suffering. I too suffer after condom use and therefore I am hesitant to
Engage in sex. I will try the poly condoms. After all trial and error (and of course a doctor when necessary) is
The best way to learn. If anyone has vaginal oral sex prior to interourse, try to have your partner
Brush their teethe, or slip them a listerine strip. The germs in the mouth may cause
Your Love button to trap germs causing infections. ALWAYS pee after sex!!! It cleans and pushes out any bacteria from the love button
NEVER use a tampon directly after sex.
And yes, wipe your vag, front to back
That being said, Anal sex is also a way to spread bacteria, causing infections
Its difficult to think and to take all of these actions during the heat of the moment, but to our peril.
So ladies, home remedies are great but if needed see a doctor!
Also for UTI sufferers, AZO is cranberry in pill form. Over the counter.
Best wishes for fun, uninhibited, and symptom free sex
All good things, Brooklyn

Please read this post it means alot to me if i get some help on what to do, i cant go see the dr here because alot of questions are going to be asked about whether im married or not ( which im not ) – im 19, and its a culture thing.

I’ve had sex several times with my partner but the symptoms began to show about 3-4 months ago but i had to live with them as i couldnt tell anyone about it and i really dont know what to do because theyre getting worse!

Symptoms are, after we’ve had sex the first and something touched it like my hand or his penis i feel ALOT of pain and when we try to do it again i feel a burning sensation around the entrance to my vagina. After we’re done i urinate and the pain is just unbearable! It’s a burning and stingy sensation and my vagina swells inside out, like the opening of it swells its scary. I try to wash it with water but that stings even more i actually cried from the pain i was feeling i cant even shower until the pain goes away. Im dreading the fact of having sex because i know the pain im going to go through right after. The swelling and pain go away at about 4-6 hours from the time of intercouse. I also forgot to mention i get that wripped feeling around my anus to the opening of my vagina like its going to wrip.

Now i dont know whether to panic or to cook up some home remedy that would help this go away. This only happens after intercourse and by the next day it’s gone. Once it lasted a week!

I need as much help and advice as i can get like i mentioned i cant open up to anyone about this in this country!

Thank You.

I recently started dating a new guy, we decided to have sex. I have had one partner before him but I was his first. I never had any problems with my ex. Me and my new boyfriend have had sex 5 times, the first 3 were fine but the 4th and 5th made my vagina itch. I have to mention these facts though, the 4th and 5th time happened a couple hours apart and we were in a different position than normal, but those are the only two things I can think of that would do anything. We used the same type of condom we did the first 3 times and I had a chance to clean myself after each time. It has been 2 days since we had sex and my vagina still itches. I don’t know if it’s from being in a different position or that we did it twice in a few hours or that we were more rough than normal. Please help, any advice would be great. Oh yea, I don’t have health insurance so it’s not easy to just go to the dr.
Thanks!

(61) GET TESTED!! says:

To all, but especially notagain,

If you are having such frequent UTIs or similar, it may actually be an STI or STD.

The only way to be sure is to get tested for all of the STI/STDs. Chlamydia, for example, can go unnoticed or appear to be other things for some time. It is a bacterial STI, so it is very easy to cure with antibiotics, though you have to have the right ones–different to those used for UTIs.

I went to the doctor thinking I had a UTI and was given antibiotics. The immediate symptoms went away, though in the months after I got many more ‘yeast infections’ and regulary had itching, redness, and burning after sex. Eventually, a new doctor decided to test me ‘just in case’ and I did indeed have Chlamydia.

It is horrible to think about, but it is better to test and deal with the reality. The sad thing is that I trusted my partner when he said he was fine–in reality, he had never been tested! Make it a date, go together to the clinic–you have to talk about these things.

It was two years together (and of me having these bad symptoms) before I found the real cause.

Do what is best for your body and have annual papsmears and regular STI testing. If you are concerned about the financial aspects, go to a clinic such as Planned Parenthood. They are very good and affordable–as well as confidential for younger women.

(66) Summer says:

If you use YOGURT make sure it is PLAIN YOGURT :) the reason Yogurt works well is because it contains Acidophilus which is a Probiotic and contains live cultured enzymes that promote healthy bacterias. This is especially good to take orally if you are on ANTIBIOTICs. which are known to kill off the good bacterias &When the good bacterias are gone then you are at risk of getting a YEAST infection. Acidophilus can be found at any pharmacy(over the counter) or in PLAIN yogurt, this is most effective. Yeast feeds off sugar.. so no sweets! Candida is a BIG problem and feeds of Sugars!

All the best

Ok, my problem is similar but different. I experienced no problems when using condoms. But, first time me and my boyfriend didn’t use a condom i had a terrible pain/burning in my vagina and ended up with a bladder infection. It was aweful!! So, I excused it figuring that it was a one time deal, well me and my boyfreind had sex without a condom again and same problem. serious pain! so i had him stop and i went pee and it burned like no other. i immediately took medication for a bladder infection/UTI and that part had calmed down by the next time i went pee but i had to wait serveral hours for the pain in my vagina to go away. ON top of that for the next probably 24 hours after we stopped sex i had an very liquidy discharge and alot of it. the texture was almost like his sperm was draining out. thats the only way i can describe it. ok so i clearly need some advice!?! whats wrong with my body??? oh and i have considered that maybe it had to to with acidity or semen allergy! any thoughts?

I went to the doctors about this, I get bladder infections just before my bleeds, if I have sex not long before it, she said its from condoms, cause your vagina is so close to your urethra (however its spelt!) all the lubricant or spermicide or whatever you have on it gets pushed up into your pee hole causing infection, she said if you go for a wee about 5-10 minutes after sex it can reduce the amount of infections you get because it clears out all the rubbish pushed up there :)
hope I helped!

Today I notice that it is no longer swollen but still slightly irritted and itchy. There is no abnormal discharge or odor…So could this just be continued irritation from the toilet paper I used? Or BV? Or? if you could please help me it would be so so appreciated! I’m nervous. Thank you!

I thought the burning was normal that I would just have to get use to it. I thought it was me but after my new partner I’m in heaven. I still don’t understand why that is though.

(80) deb says:

Many comments have mentioned minor bleeding and/or vaginal tears, especially on the back wall (nearer the anus). I had virtually given up vaginal intercourse because of this problem. My obgyn said that the tissue there is overly thin due to estrogen “starvation” (my symptoms began in my mid 30′s… seems kinda early for peri-menopause but whatever).

He prescribed a cream called estrace. The directions call for filling a tube and inserting that once every three days but I found I forgot to use it unless I used it every day and using a whole applicator full seemed wasteful since so much would leak out. I decided to just rub a dab on the problem area each night.

That helped until I was in my mid 40′s when the situation resurfaced. I’m reluctant to take a stronger, oral estrogen because of the listed side-effects and my genetic history. I discovered that if I “warmed” the vaginal opening by gently stretching with either my fingers or a vibrator, there was far less pain when my husband would penetrate and, even when intercourse was prolonged, there was often no lasting discomfort or bleeding.

I guess it would just be considered “foreplay” but it’s faster when I just do it my self (foreplay bores me… I just want the vigorous passion of intercourse). Anyway… I recently heard sex advice from a radio doctor and having the clitoris “erect” is a key part of painless sex as well.

to Ellie:

It depends on your local planned parenthood office if they can take walk-ins or if you need an appointment. They’re staffed with nice people who want us to be healthy no matter what. Last time I went (OK it was in the 80′s but hopefully this still applies) payment was based on a sliding scale and was very inexpensive. Now that I’m “all growed up” I try to send a donation each year cuz they were there for me and I want them to be there for you.

To Ashley:

I’m sure you’re better now and YES it was the sand paper, I mean…Toilet Paper! that caused your irritation. Even soft TP is too harsh… after all, it is made of wood!

To people peeing blood: In my youth I’ve had long-standing minor bladder infections with a low-grade fever (not usually sex related) which went away with antibiotics (I had to learn the hard way that you have to take the WHOLE prescription or it’ll just come back). Once I thought I was getting an infection because it sort of hurt to pee and I had to go so often but as the day wore on it became obvious I had the flu and boy was it a doozie! My hair hurt, I had to take a nap in the middle of meals cuz I was so exhausted, etc (it was 1983 or 4 and it was a different strain of swine flu than the current, deadly H1N1). Anyway, I hadn’t had an infection for 20 years when I peed a bit of blood. It was the weekend so I was gonna wait ’til Monday but within a few hours the pain was severe and it seemed like I was peeing pure blood so I went to urgent care before it could close and leave me with only the ER for help. I was surprised at how short the antibody course was and how quickly it made a difference and how quickly the symptoms occurred and how intense those symptoms were! You all have my sympathy. However, peeing blood is never normal and occasionally a symptom of something far worse than an infection, so see the doc, OK?

To those with itching after sex:

I’m planning to try Patricia’s Boric Acid capsule trick; it sounds like it could be just the thing for many of us. And Patricia, it totally sucks that you can’t afford the feminine products you need. Back in the day, I used the hippy technique of substituting a natural sea sponge as a tampon (got it at the hippy food coop along with directions for it’s care and use). You rinse it ONLY with cold water when you got to the bathroom and pop it back in. Unfortunately, I didn’t always have a private bathroom when I needed to empty/clean it and, even before AIDS and the general increase in people’s squeamishness, the shame I felt and the dirty looks I got were enough to make me not use it (except at home) and my flow was to heavy to use it alone but it might work for you?

thanx

Hey Girls! Here are some tips that made my life go from making weekly visits to the doctors to no more reasons to make them. I was about ready to say “I’m never having sex again!” because the pain was so intense. bUT I guess there are some things I just didn’t know…

1. Always pee after sex. Not ten min. later, half hour later… Right after! No excuses ladies.

2. Drink a tall glass of water before and after having sex.

3. Drink eight to ten tall glasses of water during the day. It keeps your urine diluted. This is a very good thing to do to elimanate infection possibilites. Plus gives your facial skin a boost!

4. Do not EVER transfer from vaginal sex to having butt sex without cleaning up first. He needs to clean his member with a clean damp towl AND dry it off. You need to wipe your area. Then you can get back at it. If you don’t do this, you WILL get an infection.

5. Pee about every hour.

6. Be safe, don’t be stupid. Sex isnt a toy, it makes babies. Babies as we all know are a lot of work. So, young girls out there, rethink having sex before you’re eighteen at least. I was active at sixteen, and I regret every guy. Wait till you find the one you want to be with your whole life. Don’t mess around with multiple guys. Everything done incorrectly has consequences girls.

(84) Chels' says:

This is very important: WIPE FRONT TO BACK.

Do NOT wipe back to front. You will spread grossness from your butt into your vagina, thus why you could be getting infections.

*Wipe correctly.

Ive suffered from uti’s for years so i know immediately when i am getting one. It usually starts with a tingling sensation when I pee and escalates to a burning sensation. Sometimes u feel to need to pee every ten minutes but hardly nothing comes out and sometimes the pee will be slightly bloody. It is however an internal infection so any of you suffering from itching and soreness on the vagina would more likely point to an irritation. Its a simple urine sample test at the dr’s – no internal exams or embarrasing nakedness. There are loads of different reasons for a uti although sexual intercourse is one of the main reasons its not the only reason. Holding ur pee for too long is another reason. Ur doc will not automatically assume ur sexually permiscous if ur worried about that and if its ur first visit for this infection will prob not mention sex at all .But u need antibiotics to treat it and if u don’t it will keep coming back. You will soon know if you are susceptible to a uti after sex, and there are simple ways to work around that as some of the other people have discussed above such as changing sexual poistions. Hope this helps guys!

but if you dont have just one partner and you are tired of dealing with UTI’s just tell your dr. whats going on and ask if he/she can prescribe you some medicine w/ several refills for like 6 months and when you feel one coming on start it and when its gone go ahead and get your refill to be ready for next time…

I’ve been itchy for the past couple days but as of right now its been getting better as days goes by. Idk exactly why all of a sudden its itching so bad but I do know the last time me and my boyfriend had sex we did it doggy style and wasnt well lubricated so it hurt a bit when he tried to go inside. Can it just be a small rip? and if it is how long does it take to go away. Someone please help! Im kinda scared.

(96) sandy says:

I, too, have been using boric acid for a few years now, and the results are incredible. Since I’m very prone to yeast infections (especially itchiness around the entrance to my vagina), I always know when one is coming. Monistat and other over-the-counter medications don’t work for me anymore. In fact, they cause increased irritation. I’ll get a yeast infection from exposure to semen, from using the wrong lube (my doc recommended Crisco – she said it’s totally safe, and in fact it works very well!), from wearing too-tight jeans, etc. Boric acid always works, although I’ve noticed that I need to use it twice a day for about two weeks in order for the symptoms to stop coming back. Another great thing about it is that you can still have sex when you’re using it … he’ll never notice, because your discharge is clear/whitish and has no smell. Another thing that helps is salt baths. Run a warm bath and pour in a good amount of salt. Swish the water towards your vagina, and chill out for 15 minutes. I find this to have a very soothing effect.

Today I’m feeling itchy and kind of sore around the entrance to my vagina. Had sex yesterday using the same condoms as usual, but for some reason I’m itchy today. Based on other posts, I’m guessing I might be a little torn down there. We had sex at this awesome but unusual angle, so I think that’s related. Now I’m wary of using those condoms again … might try polyurethane!

I am a chronic UTI suffer and recently had a bladder infection. For all those out there like me the best way to avoid this is of course good hygeine. I found that drinking more water than one is used to during the day will keep a constant flush. Then after intercourse drink lots of liquid and use the bathroom immediatetly after and keep flushing for the next few days. Any burning you may experience is due to small microscopic tears of the vulva from the penis and the vagina expanding sometimes rapidly for intercourse. If you experience burning quick at home remedies that I have found useful are:
1. When peeing seperate the labia so less acidic urine gets on the cuts of your vagina. When wiping pat dry do not rub, when pating the air can cool the cuts.
2. Taking a warm baking SODA bath, use as much baking soda as you want, I use a small box or at least half of it. Sit in there for about 20 minutes, continue to drink water. I find that this works best. It reduces the acid around your vagina.
3. Episom salt baths are sootheing, and take your mind off the burning
4. Band-Aid hurt free antiseptic wash- can be used to wash the small cuts around the vagina and relieve the pain. You can use inside your vagina. Spray, let sit for a little while then wash with cold water, it will cause an ice-like feeling
5. If you continue to burn for several days after intercourse, you may have a UTI, seek medical attention.
Sometimes instead of cuts around the vagina you may be irritated by condom use, lubricants (that are not water based, always use water based), spermicides, etc. All the tools used during intercourse are not very natural. Your body’s bacteria that when inflammed causes yeast infections doesnt adjust well to all the items used for intercourse. A good way to help your body adjust is
1. After intercourse, pee, (drink a glass of water)get in the shower, use mild soaps with NO perfumes do not put soap in or near vagina. Put it on your stomach and let the soap wash down to your vagina with the shower water, use your hand to wash the area. This washes away any lubes exc that may cause irritation.
2. Use a half vinegar/water douche. Many doctors say not to douche. This is true. It kills the good bacteria in your body. However after intercourse douches also rinse away lubes exc. Use a douche, then fill the bottom with water and use again. You will refreshed and clean.
A couple of things to know: DO NOT douche more than 2 times a week, so if you plan on having intercourse more then that then cut back on items that cause irritation.
Also DO NOT douche if you did not use a condom, douching only pushes sperm further into the vagina it DOES NOT wash it out.
Remember douching does get rid of some of your good bacteria, a good way to mantain the PH and bacteria in your vagina is after you douche use RePherish, you can find it in walgreens in the condom and lube isle. Its a small bit of lubricant that you insert into your vagina that helps you vagina mantain its PH level. High PHs cause yeast to cause yeast infections and discomfort. Use RePHerish after douching, after your period, after sex exc. but it works best after the cleaning I mentioned before.

UTIs – urinstat (urinary pain relief pills) help relieve temp. pain. Also even when you dont have a UTI and you have burning this medicine will not hurt. Make sure you eat before taking and drink LOTs of fluids.

I would also recommend anyone who has chronic UTIs– when you give a urine sample, let your doctor send it off for “cultures” your doctor should do it already but if they dont ask if they would. 4-5 days after sending your specimen off, the ‘specific’ bacteria in your urine (usually e.coli, from the anus, that gets into the urinary tract during intercourse) starts to grow. Then the doctor can precribe specific antiobiotics for the bacteria that has invaded your uninary tract/bladder. TAKE ALL OF YOUR ANTIOBIOTIC, even if the pain goes away, if you dont you could become immune to the antibotic and the bacteria can continue to come back, and sometimes stronger.

For people new to sex– during sex if your partners ‘member’ touches your anus (with or w/o a condom) STOP, and either change condoms, or have him wash his member. Trust me the irritation and other problems yet to come if you dont will have you posting back on this wall.

People using cranberry pills- of course short term use wont show results. Take them everyday, and drink water all day at all times. Cranberry pills do things that alot of people dont just notice. They help the acidity of your urine tract and cause bacteria to not bind to the walls (causing a UTI). Regular doses wont hurt.

Ladies, a huge thing a lot of us dont realize is underwear are bad. I used to wear thongs and other tight forms of clothing when I was younger. They dont help your body mantain its normal state. You would be surprised how refreshing it is to just go commando, or wear loose fitting underwear. To bed, wear boxers or something that allows air to reach your vagina. I promise you will notice the difference. Also be aware of your detergents, they may cause irritation.

Yellowish discharge/any other color besides white- is usually a sure sign of infection. Just saying. Your body reacting like that isnt good. See a doctor, please.

I know this is a ton of information, but my mother who is now in her 60s suffered from the same problems when she was younger. She passed down her remedies to me, because I suffered from the same type of problems. I have had procedures done by urinologists. I would def. not suggest anyone get the tube stuck up their urinary tract. The tube has a camera and the urinologists looks at your bladder to see if everything is ok. If you think UTIs are painful, this is the most pain I have ever had in my life. At that point I decided to change my life, drink more fluids, be as clean as possible. Im lucky my partner works with me. If you have to get into a regimine in order to have sex enjoyable after and during- then do it. And if your man doesnt understand, maybe you should rethink your man. To all the ladies here, we all suffer from these problems. I hope everything I added helps, I know it does for me. Let me know if anyone has questions Im happy to help! :)

Ela…if there isn’t the reaction when you use condoms, there is a chance you might be allergic to a protein in his sperm. I had the same problem. Never before would I break out or itch after sex except with my current boyfriend. We’ve been together for 2 years and both of us have been tested for STDs and been clean. Never happened with a condom but anytime I’ve had any contact with his sperm I’ve become severely itchy down there until I shower. Found out I was allergic to his semenal fluid. Ways of dealing with it is becoming desensitized to it or wearing a condom all the time. People might think you have to be allergic to all semenal fluid but every man’s semenal fluid is composed differently and you can be allergic to just one guy’s sperm if he has the protein you are allergic to.

I’m alarmed that women are taking all the responsibility for their symptoms. We must insist that the man be clean. Do you know how much bacteria men transmit from their fingernails during foreplay? Many men don’t wipe after urinating. Also, sex isn’t meant to hurt, so glad many are sharing success methods such as Patricia’s boric acid capsules. Don’t let the guy act out porno or film romping on you. That is fantasy and you can be hurt. Anal sex, long term ruins your sphincter muscle, BM’s slide out. Sometimes more freedom with restraint. One product for interior dryness, menopause, Replenze. Also, sex without really being interested or attracted physically fails to activate the juices that keep us moist.

Everything started to clear up then last night we had sex again and the same thing happened but not as severe… does this sound like a yeast infection? or maybe just irritation from the friction that causes it to become raw… I thought maybe that where he shaves his pubic hair it could be the stubble causing it to become red and raw and burning… and the itching could be from the tissue healing… any ideas? he hasn’t changed body wash or anything and we don’t use condoms or lubrication…

After suffering from recurrent and painful UTI’s for over 5 years (they started when I got married and started having sex), I had enough. My gyn gave me a prescription for nitrofurantoin that I take every time my hubby and I have sex. This has solved it! Often, I still experience pain after intercourse for a day or so, and so I take an extra pill so as not to get infection from inflammation. The pill prevents bacteria from growing. It is a good choice for me, considering I get a UTI surrounding sexual activity! Ask your gyn about it… but also: PLEASE JUST TALK TO YOUR PERSONAL DOCTOR/GYN ABOUT THE SYMPTOMS U ARE HAVING. It’s better to get it over with than to be consumed by worry and fear.

I just left a whole long response and it didn ;t go through…lost everything i just typed which would have helped you all alot. It’s so irritating because i’m tired and need to go to sleep so not typing it again. What i basically said was that i have been going through the same thing, and after many years of using latex condoms, i realize that im allergic. I used benedryl and after two days the itching persist…it had already turned into a yeast infection. Chances are you might be allergic to latex or whatever you might have experimented with. Get the pure acidophillus capsules from the health food store. take one each night with a glass of water. Also, get pure and possibly unsweetened yogurt and try to paste some in your vagina (wth a small spooon) and possibly where ever the itching is(on the outside. It also helps to eat a lot of yogurt also. wear a pad afterwards and rinse it off in the morning.

Also, what i have tried was mixing plain yogurt in a glass with some water and using that as a natural lubricant…i placed it on his penis before we have intercourse, that way it gets all the way into my vagina and helps to somewhat balance/replace what might be lost (normal pH) during intercourse. Don’t need it, but when im a person that tends to get irritated after sex, i have to find ways to try and prevent horrible irritation a day or so after sex.

Good luck to you and make sure you have clean sex…dirt might contribute to your discomfort. Sometimes our guy wants to get freaky and have dirty sex, but if they love us, they just going to have to wash up…especially since we are so prone to getting yeast infection. If it ain’t one thing, it’s another. sometimes i feel like i spend more time making sure my crotch is ok than actually enjoying sex…it gets frustrating.

Everytime my husband and I have sex, I’m very raw, itchy, and burning. So much so that it’s embarising to scratch, but hard to ignore. We found that i’m allergic to latex, so we don’t use those anymore. I’ve tried anti itch creams, but haven’t gotten relief. I almost wonder if i’m allergic to his semen, but i never break out in hives or have trouble breathing. any advice? Please?

September 22, 2010 at 3:59 pm
(127) Afrocentric says:

Not necessarily that you are allergic to his semen, but more so that semen disrupts the normal pH of the vagina. You cannot let him release himself inside of you…you will have yeast infection repeatedly if you are not eating lots of yogurt or taking precautions. I am so sensitive to everything when i have sex that it has become entirely frustrating…i can’teven let him “finger” me or touch and rub me down there because i complain that it’s uncomfortable. I want to go to my doctor, but all he is going to do is prescribe some kind of over the counter meds…which i refuse to take again because it will only return. Diflucan (to me) is one of the best meds for yeast infection. But once i take it and do not take precautions the yeast infection will only return.

As women, it gets so difficult to enjoy sex without having irritating itching that just make your whole day uncomfortable. I will continue to do my research and i will get back to you all. For now, all i am doing is washing with summer’s eve for extra sensitive skin. i also try the vagasil anti itch wipes, but u can’t use too much of those things on a daily basis. it should also be used only on the outside of the outer labias of the vagina.

When we last used condoms, that did it for me…that was almost a month ago and im still itching on and off. Came to know that he got a sample of fire & ice condom in the trojan package that we bought and he didn;t realize…i was like OMG! that did it for me…now my itching is taking longer than ever to go away. I tried the latex free and they don’t even fit him and it makes me feel uncomfortable still.

Once i am healed, i will not be using condoms and i also cannot let him release imself inside of me until we want to have kids…

My boyfriend doesnt understand, and thinks im pushing him away everytime he wants to have sex. I try to do everything possible to counteract itching almost all of the time just inside my labia and burning and tearing after sex. I have been on depo provera for about 15 years so I don’t have a period. I only get yeast infections after taking antibiotics and UTI’s only after drinking too much pop. I used to get them all the time until I had surgery on a double ureter. I also get tearing on my posterior vaginal wall (toward the anus) also even though my husband is gentle and we always use KY jelly and reload when we change positions. I have been to the doctor, they ran tests, and found no infection. I really think it might be dryness because I itch after a shower even though I used Summer’s Eve sensitive skin to cleanse the area. Do I need estrogen even though I’m only 33 years old?

Hi! I keep gettin yeast infections.. like up to 3 a month I keep using over the counter medicine and they keep returing.. I don’t know what to do! Also my boyfriend usually just uses the “pull out” method and cums on my vag just not in it.. if I’m not peeing or wipping it up right away, does that have something to do with my yeast infection problem?

(134) beenthere says:

The Best Ever Yeast Infection Remedy: BUTTER MILK.

And as the nurse practitioner told me, “You Don’t Have To Drink It Honey”.

Just douche with it, as often as you would like. It is a natural substance that levels the Ph balance of your body. The results are almost instant. Not to mention cheap! No lingering smell.

First signs of itching or burning…I buy whole buttermilk. I usually do it at least twice/three times a day for 5-7 days. But let me warn you! Do Not Take It Straight From The Fridge! I suggest getting a cheap,”Summer’s Eve” type, disposable bottle. Empty liquid contents. Trim out a larger hole at the top of the bottle. Pour the buttermilk into the bottle. Then put the disposable bottle into a larger container filled with hot water. (Like warming a baby’s bottle.) Let the milk warm to desired temp, then douche. Absolute Heaven!

The nurse told me when she worked with the Atlanta Health Dept. they could not afford to supply the numerous patients with the needed over-the-counter type meds. So this was what was recommended to the patients, for yeast infection treatment.

Another really neat suggestion she made to me that I will never forget, was for Contraception.
Take one aspirin prior to intercourse,
and hold it between your knees.

She was a great lady,,,her advise has been tried & proven effective by me for over 25 years.

I hope it can help some of the many of you in need…
good luck. :)

after suffering for years with UTI’s i finally got that sorted with the help of my wonderful dr (low dosage antibiotics!)

now, having had a month free of this, a new problem has arisen.

the last 2 times my bf and I have had sex I am suffering from extreme itching below, i am swollen, and practically closed up! I had sex about 11 last night, and its now midday and just as bad? This has never happened before when we have had sex (we have been together almost a year) and I am 25.

My BF has also been to the docs recently as he has a rash on his thighs – which he has been prescribed antibiotics for…

could this be transferred to me during sex? We aren’t using any contraception at this time?

Cheers!!

Ok so every single time after i have sex with my boyfriend, i get this intense itch to the entrance of my vagina. I used to assume it was thrush so would buy over the counter drugs, sometimes this would not work so I would buy over the counter uti drugs. I seem to get both symptons of a uti and thrush, the sensitivity of peeing and a tender tummy, as well as intense itching and burning! can you get both at once? The docs said the antibiotics they gave me for uti can give me thrush which i know, but the itching happens at the start b4 ive taken any drugs. Ive been tested once and its come back as a uti and antibiotics dont take the itching away!! ATM im on antibiotics for a uti but this itching is keepin me up! sometimes i get random relief from it, only for it to flare up again, like now at 4.02am!!! i finish my antibiotics tomorrow, i thought symptoms would die down by now. Anywho my problem now is not only can i not tell if i have a uti or thrush, but im miserable, fed up of pain and discomfort, my bf gets upset coz im upset, my mums fed up of my whining, and the docs do nothing to help, they just say “some women are very unlucky and have a short urethra yadada” i know all this but their not helping me! I may need to seek a gynocologist coz it totally screws up my week, i have to take time off work, and sit around waiting for this ultimate discomfort to pass! Im just so confused and frustrated. I now have to take an antibiotic after i have sex, but im not convinced their working as im still itching and burning. Nothing eases my itching at all, creams dont work a bath works untill i get out of it, yoghurt doesnt work, nothing! i pee b4 and after sex my partner and i wash b4 and after sex no soap just water! i feel so hopeless! Ive never had an sti, and i have been tested, my partner too so i can defo rule it out! Any help at all and id be very grateful!!!

Hey guys.I’m still 16 :| . Right after the day I had sex with my bf my vagina was very itchy and whenever I urinate i can feel that burning sensation specially before I finished urinating. Now, There’s still that itchiness but whenever I urinate there is less burning and sometimes i don’t feel the burning anymore. Its just the itch and its driving me crazy… whats the meaning of that? could that possibly mean that “whatever is going on there” is healing? i always wash my vajajay like every 10 minutes. But i didnt apply any creams or whatsoever… could it be just that my vagina was irritated ? cuz it was only my 3rd time with 3 different guys. The 1st time (1st guy) was perfect cuz I didnt feel anything, the 2nd (2nd guy) one was just itchy but not “that” itchy even though we had 9 rounds and now that its my 3rd and we only had 2 rounds, ITS LIKE KILLNG ME and its the worse than my 2nd.

Another one here with identical symptoms as N. After sex my vagina and labia becomes inflamed and burns like crazy. Peeing afterwards is excruciating. All that soothes it s an ice pack between my legs or pouring cold water over it. We have had infertility treatments so have both been tested regularly for std’s. All clear. I have regular smears too.
I’ve told my doctors but they don’t seem that concerned. A couple said it was thrush so I treat for that but a smear to see if I had a yeast infection came back clear. It’s so painful. I’m going to go back to the GP and explain just how agonising it is and demand they do something. I’ll let you know if they come to any conclusions.

from your description and speaking from experience I’m pretty sure that you just ripped a little. Nothing to worry about it’ll heal up soon. Used to happen to me a lot when I was your age and still does every now and then. I’m 24 and lost my Virginity also when I was 15 so don’t feel bad about it. And don’t ever think you have to apologize or justify with who and how often you have sex. But on the other hand I know I’m not your Mom and believe me I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but I just wanted to tell you to be careful about having unprotected sex at this young age( as a matter of fact whatever age). I know when your that young and have your first bf u feel like this is it, we will last forever (been there done that) but u have so much of ahead of u in life so like I said I’m not trying to get at u in a wrong way just trying to give u a heads up to be very careful with who u have unprotected sex with. Believe me I know what I’m talking about. Take care girl… ;)

Ohhh and btw everybody, I also get a burning tingling sensation after sex. And I do go pee after Intercourse. But mine feels like it comes from my G-Spot and goes all the way down my Urinary Tract. I don’t get it every time and it doesn’t last too long, maybe an hour or so. It’s just such an annoying feeling. I seriously doubt its a UTI or a STD since it only last for an hour max. And I have had a UTI before and it is nothing close to what I felt then.

Hi

This is a last resort…. so…

A girl in this thread, called Anna, described this cushiony patchy/rough region at the very entrance of the vagina.

I don’t know what it’s called, but that’s EXACTLY what I have problems with, and I don’t know how to search for it online cause I don’t even know if it has a name.

Anyway, it feels like that whole region grew and is obstructing the vagina…. I saw it a week ago when something felt itchy and I took a mirror to it, and ever since I’ve had sex once and my bf told me that part does feel tighter, but not the rest of the vagina…

WHY DID IT GROW!? I am freaking out… when I look with a mirror I can’t even see inside my vagina anymore because of it.

…..please help… anyone… thank you

I’ve had the same problem all three times: After a few minutes of sex, I get completely dry and I rip. EVERY TIME. This has never happened before, and I’ve been having sex for three years. Last week the guys just kept going, and this week the guy stopped. I got wet again but right after he put it in, I had to stop because I was already so dry.. Um hi,

Okay, here’s my problem. I’m 19, and after about 3 or 4 times of having sex with my boyfriend (cause we have it just about every night :/ ) about a day later I have these problems, I get this very uncomfortable, intense feeling in my vaginal area. And it kinda feels like I have to pee all the time, and then when I do pee, it’s fine at first, but then at the middle or the end of it I get that uncomfortable, intense feeling again, and it seems to even stop my pee… Also it stays for days, it gets really bad sometimes, like now, I can’t even sleep cause it’s so irritating!

What is it and what can I do about it, also is there any way that I can relive it so that I can at least sleep.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks :)

I started having sex with my boyfriend beginning June 2010. We;ve always used condoms from the get go because I don’t want any mishaps. We were both virgins when he had done so so I’m happy about that. But my question is that after sex I get a burning sensation, it doens’t really itch it just burns and its really sore. It burns when I pee after sex cuz my friend told me its good to pee before and after sex which i always do.

i alwya sthought its cause were really rough some times or cause hes so big and im so tiny. but throughout my years ive masturbated and before we have sex he always fingers me to loosen me up and make sure im wet enough.

but idk. :/
i really hope its not a UTI, ive read though soem of your comments, and i really considered the tearing situation.

because it hurts just outside my vagina, at the bottom like the area towrds my butt hole.. my entire vagina is red afterwards and the burning… ive also considered being allergic to th latex.. or not being wet enough.

because it only burns for like 24 hours and then its fine again.

so ima try lubricant, drinking more water, and try a non lubricated condom. if it persists I’m going to talk to my doctor.

any information will be a big help as the pain sometimes gets really bad.

Hi, i just want to give everyone on this site some valuable advice, as a second year nursing student (i will be a registered nurse in 2 more years) i cannot stress enough the importance of going to see your health care provider, or going to the clinic.

The truth is anyone can get infections (yeast infections, urinary tracts, etc), sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, gonorrhea), and sexually transmitted diseases (herpes, HIV/AIDS, syphillis). And you can contract them after having unprotected sex even your first time. Condoms help reduce the transmission of infections/diseases but they are still not 100% effective. In addition, maybe of the more serious transmitted diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhea, HPV, etc) have NO symptoms. This is why is it extremely important to get routine checks once you are sexually active. Also, always use a condom, you may trust your partner but unless you see the piece of paper signed by the doctor saying they are disease free, you can’t be certain, your partner may be unaware they even have a disease.

February 16, 2011 at 3:04 am
(171) amanda says:

CONTINUED FROM MY PREVIOUS POST:

The longer you wait to be treated, the worse the health outcomes may be. For example, an untreated urinary tract infection can travel up into the kidneys and cause irreversible damage. Another example is untreated chlamydia, which you may not even know you have, can lead to pelvic inflmatory disease (lesions and swelling of uterus and surrounding sex organs) which can cause infertility, meaning you will never be able to have children.

As for home remedies, these are very useful for infections like urinary tract, yeast and vaginitis, but may not be effective for everyone, everyone’s body is unique and reacts differently to different treatments. At the end of the day, consult a health care provider to be certain of your sexual health status. Sexual diseases are serious issues and can cause many health complications and can even be fatal.

As for what age you have sexual intercourse at, it is ultimately your body, your choice, when you are ready you will know and no one else can make that decision for you.

February 16, 2011 at 3:11 am
(172) amanda says:

CONTINUED

For things like Chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, HIV/AIDS, syphillis and HPV, there are no home remedies. Antibiotics are specifically engineered to rid of a specific disease. Antiobiotics, in simple terms, are usually a type of bacteria themselves that counteracts/destroys the spread and growth of the disease.

You NEED to go to a clinic and see a health care provider to get a prescription for any of the above listed diseases, HIV is for life, Herpes is for life, the others can be cured quickly by taking prescribed antibiotics. Having said this, your health is the most important thing, dont take risks (unprotected sex with someone you dont trust), get checked out, its better the be safe than sorry.

used! Taking one a day every day has helped me
avoid a lot of problems in the female lower region.
I just ran out & I have to get more. Walgreens, & Wegmans
are two places that I have bought them. They are
over the counter. Any woman who has reacuring female
issues should take them. My aunt has herpies & her 7yr old daughter gets a lot of bladder infections & it seems to be helping them both. They also help take down stomac
bloating. Since I’ve been taking them too I have
had less occurances of illness from crostintamination.
I’ve been a vegitarian over 21years. Anytime I get a
vegi burger cooked near meat, or someone uses
the same spoon in marinara sauce as meat sauce
I bloat out for three days like I’m 6 months prego.
This only happens w/read meat, even though I
do not eat any creatures my body just cannot digest
red meat at all. I miss red meat the most & if I could
digest it I would consider giving up vegitarianism!
LoL!
OKay I saw some postings on Slippery Elm. When I
could afford it I would take it for pain probs & diagestion.
Licorice root helps a lot w/pain too & red clover
w/digestion. I have never heard anything about
Slippery Elm helping w/female probs. If anyone
has info on this please show me. I am not currious.

i meant I am currious.

I am seriously considering this boric acid insert. I am willing
to try anything to help. When I get a yeast infection
often the over the counter insurts do no help at all.
I need that perscription oral pill. The obgyn has to see u
to get it & they always tell me that they can’t get me in for
3 months!!! I mean wtf 3 months!!!! So I take a pile
of probiotics now until it goes away.

This is my current issue. I hope that I don’t sound like
a slut here. 1st I am alergic to most condoms! Even goat
skin! For some odd reason I can only use Trojan Magnum.
No other trojan brand. So I often do not use condoms. I
have only had success w/the depo shot but they say u can’t
take it after two years so I stoped that years ago.
It also causes severe weight gain. Birth control pills
make me absolutely nuts & I have had times where I
got my period for the three weeks off & not tge one week
that I was supposed to get my period! So I downloaded
two apps for my ipod that have calenders that tell me when I
can get prego. So far so good there. I am very sensitavie in my vaginal area. When I was 3 years old I unknowingly
swam in polouted water in NJ. I got bladder infections &
yeast infections a lot since.
Here is my current problem please don’t judge me.

I was dateing a best friend of 17yrs for about 3 months.
He said he was clean & I trust he wouldn’t lie to me.
Every time we had sex I would rip & so would he.
He isn’t circumcized. He keeps him penis very clean.
Never has any kind of oder or anything uckey. He has
skin tags on the back of his balls & I was totaly frwaked out
thinking that they were warts when I saw them but he
reasured me that they are skin tags. I looked closer
& they do look like skin tags, not warts.
After Matt & I broke up I dated this other guy, Steve for a month.
1st time that we had sex we used a condom. The other
two times we didn’t use a condom & for who knows
what I was thinking, but I let him cum in me both
times. We broke up because well he is odd. He swares
to me he was recently tested & clean, but Idk. He
could have lied too. I found out after we broke up
some odd information. Well, idk for sure but this girl
who used to be roomates w/his sister said that he was dateing a drag queen!!!! I’m like omg wtf! (yes I’m 33years old and sound 15, but still omg wtf)

Well on Feb 13th I saw Matt. The night of the 12th
he went out to celibrate his Bday. He was much to drunk to
drive & lived 45mins from the bar so he crashed
at my place. We had sex. After we had sex I felt torn again.
Matt is much larger then Steve, but I’ve been w/a bigger
guy than Matt. I always use Witch hazel on hemroids because its much cheapers than tucks & works beter. I had some mild hemroids so I applied witch hazel. Then on a different piece of tp I applied some to my vaganal area thinking that it
may help. My inner vaginal canal has been hurting very bad ever since! There is no odd oder or discharge. I’m concerned what about stds?!?! 14 years ago when I was 19 I was misdiagnosed w/herpies by the obgyn I saw at that time. For a year & a half I had taken the medicine w/no help. At the time I had only had 1 partner & he had only been with me so it made little sence to me. So I went to my college clinic. They told me I was alergic to the mini pads & soap that I was using. They said the soare was in the shape of the mini pad. I have a lot of natural discharge so I used mini pads dailey to keep my undies clean. I stoped using mini pads & found more gental soaps & had no more soares! I always used white cotton
undies unless I am wareing something for sepcial times. A few yeaes later I was pregnant w/my son who is now 9 years old. I was getting itchey. My obgyn told me ti stop wareing undies all together except durring my period or w/a skirt. I did that & no more itching. There is no real way to test for herpies w/o an outbreak, because I’ve had chicken pox & that is a form of herpies so a blood test would come up positive. The doctor told me if I do not have an outbreak for 10years I do not have herpies.

Omg I hada wait 10 years to find out?!?! Well now 14 years have passed & no out break! Now today I am soare in my vaginal canal & itchey. It could be a yeast infection, but commonly yeast infections cause discharge. It could be me having alergies like I often get but this seems much worse. It could be from the witch hazel. Idk! I am soooo scared to get tested. #1 no one wants bad news. #2 I’m afraid of being misdiaganosed again. I am going to try this boaric acid thing. Any other suggestions?!?!?! And yes I know I should get tested. Don’t state the obvious please!

This is so weird. Everytime me and my boyfriend have sex I get swollen and very itchy for days afterward. It is very hard to get through the day because the only thing that relieves it is taking a bath. This hasn’t really happened before. We don’t use condoms but I use birth control. This also started around the time I changed to my new birth control, its the. Nuva ring. Anyway my boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years. This is making me not want to have sex with him and he’s starting to get worried and not want to either. Any ideas? I don’t think this is na side effect of my birthcontrol because I don’t think it is listed as one. Also we use plenty of lube.

Suzy, if you’re getting UTIs after sex you might want to try a powder called D-Mannose which flushes the bacteria out the body. It is VERY expensive sadly (and costs me a fortune to keep my sex related UTIs and kidney infections at bay) but at least you would be able to avoid antibiotic use if it works for you. D-Mannose is a miracle for a lot of people – I just wish they would provide it on the NHS here in the UK, or I wish some company would start to make it more affordable.

The next day my vagina hurt a little but i figured it was because of the length of time we went(which usually sometimes happen) Anyways its been a day and a half and when i went to urinate, it didnt burn but it was still irritated and so i got a mirror and checked for discharge and i saw some kinda clearish to milky discharge wit no odor. Im kinda panicing but i dont think an std would occur like this overnight. Have anyone ever experienced this?? Its Friday and i cant see a doc til Monday. I need some advice or something to ease my mind..What could it be??

(188) Itchy n scratchy says:

Hi guys,

After reading ur posts I felt compelled to say something.

I get irritated, slightly itchy and red for about 2 days post intercourse. I have been treated several times for thrush of which clearly it is not. The kind of lubricant, condom or no condom and whether he ejaculates inside me makes no difference. I went to my gp today and he advised it’s likely to be dermatitis and prescribed a steroid cream to use when I have my symptoms (symbacort)

Whilst on the topic of thrush a girlfriend of mine suffers quite badly with this and she recommends an antihistamine tablet to help relieve the itching and irritation downstairs. She also recommends flushing/douching out the hot cheesy discharge with a 10ml syringe with sterile (boiled) water with bicarbonate soda mixed in. I have done this along with the over the counter meds and my symptoms have cleared alot quicker.

I tear sometimes during sex due to scar tissue from having a baby and also the slightest wrong angle will also cause some trauma, yes it stings afterwards when I pee but the vaginal skin is very fragile but also heals quickly. That’s just life!

In regards to continual uti’s the advice the girls have put on here is all correct. Google” urethral stenosis”, continual uti’s can cause scar tissue requiring surgery. One of my other girlfriends had an operation for this and has never had a uti since!

Thank god for sisterhood is all I can say!

(189) Babe23 says:

Hello all,
I really appreciate and read most of the comments above. There have been some great advice posted so I think its important for anyone with vaginal symptoms to read the advices given. I share my story and advice about treating and avoiding vaginal infections below:

My Story: 2 months ago I experienced my first vaginal infection after trying a new brand of latex condoms during sex. Making matters more complex is that the same day I just started using contaceptives (so this added to my hormone changes). My infection symptoms included: reeeeaaaallly bad itching in & around my vulva, pelvic pains, odorless white discharge, and a burning sensation on the outer parts of my vagina when I pee. Because this was my 1st infection, like most women above I was: scared, embarrased, annoyed, angry (mostly at my partner), afraid of having sex, and even depressed because of my urges to scratch in public. This experience disrupted my daily life.

After visiting my Gynae I was told I had a yeast infection & was prescribed the clotrimazole cream and 1 night vaginal inserts of the same drug. When I used the insert I got slight relief but the burning of my vagina would increase whenever I used the cream (Despite my concerns my gynae, the pamphlet for the drug, & a pharmacist reassured me this is expected as the drug is working). After 3 days my symptoms worsened: my discharge had a slight fishy scent & at times looked yellow, the itching was horrible to the point that scratching gave me orgasmic relief. I also started to get puss-filled bumps on & around my vulva. After another weeks of extended treatment & no healing, my Gynae tested me for herpes & prescribed Nizoral as an oral pill with 3 nights of vaginal inserts. The Nizoral worked wonders for me. Within 3 days all my symptoms were gone, & my blood test was negative for herpes.

(190) Babe23 says:

During my experience I alienated ppl, had anger fits and swore celibacy. Below I share my advice based on information I learnt by asking, reading, and googling about the causes, sign & symptoms, treatment & some preventative steps for yeast & other infections:

[1]. Wear ONLY Cotton underwears as it allows ur vagina to breathe better. Someone above recommended no underwears at night, I do it sometimes too. Heat & too much Moisture FEED Yeast. Therefore, avoid wearing tight under garments, always change swimsuits immediately, & change pads & tampons frequently too. Make sure you also properly dry your vagina of excess water after you bathe, & practice pat drying (rather than wiping) from front to back when you pee.

[2]. Oral contraceptives does affect your vaginal Ph balance so while on the pill its best to take preventative steps like the ones below:
a). Try to eat yogurt daily, specifically yogurt thats has “live cultures” or “acidophilus” listed in the ingredients. If you have an infection you can apply the yogurt directly to your vagina but make sure its ONLY PLAIN/Natural Yogurt with no colouring or flavour [the protein content should be higher than the sugar content]. Flavoured or coloured yogurts have sugar added and this feeds the yeast & therefore will make ur infection worst.
b). If you dislike yogurt you can buy probiotic pills at any pharmacy, the pills contain the acidophilus needed to balance your Ph. ‘Seven Seas’ is a brand in these pills.
c). Naturally as a human being you should drink a lot of water & try to diet properly. Water will make your urine less acidic & less infectious if you are already treating a yeast infaction. Whether you are sexually active or not you can get a yeast or bacterial infection because either there is too much yeast or too much bacteria in you body, respectively.

April 13, 2011 at 9:00 am
(191) Babe23 says:

d). For yeast infections its important to balance/limit your intake of sugar. If you are a person constantly taking anti-biotic medicines the medicine can kill off the bad & good bacterias in your body, therefore leaving more yeast than bacteria. This is why the probiotic supplements or yogurt is important.
e). Further while dieting balance the amount of white flour products, especially bread, that you eat. Your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose (that is sugar) & bread products, as well as a lot of seasons used for cooking contain yeast extracts.
e). Avoid using scented & anti-bacterial products to wash or clean your vagina. E.g. soaps, toilet paper, vaginal perfumes/powders, etc. Your vagina naturally cleans itself & anti-bacterial products kill the good bacterias that are helpful in your vagina, while the scented products disturb Ph balance. You can use your hand to thoroughly wash you vagina with plain water.
f). Avoid ‘Douching’ your vagina, meaning spraying water up into your vagina with the intention of washin it out, this is more harmful to your vagina than helpful & it should only be done if directed by a physician or Gynae.
g). Avoid scratching the infected area if you are treating a yeast infection. Though it feels good, this will make the itching worst, the more you scratch the more you will feel the urge to scratch.

(192) Babe23 says:

h). Abstain from having sex while treating a yeast infection. Having sex will not only worsen your infection and reverse any healing the treatment has started. Sex may also lead to you giving your partner the infection. Importantly, if you are having recurrent yeast infections it is HIGHLY IMPORTANT you get your gynae to also treat your partner. Your partner may not have symptoms or do have symptoms, either way continues infections after intercourse with them may mean they are asymptomatic though they are infected (meaning they don’t itch or burn like you do).
I). Always pee after sex and encourage your partner to take more care in the handling and cleaning of his genitals. If you are allergic to latex condoms the polyurethane condoms (particularly the female condom is made from this material) is a good substitute. If you do not have 1 partner ALWAYS use a condom even if you are on birth control!!!

[3]. People with some STDs like Genital Herpes show no sign or symptom of having the disease. About 50% or more of the world population have genital herpes and are unaware. Therefore, protect, protect, protect, protect yourself!! Get tested for STDs and bring your partner along. If you have several partners always carry a condom and be careful who you freely kiss, as herpes is one example of an STD that can be transmitted orally.

(193) Babe23 says:

[4]. If you already have Herpes, its not the end of the world. Although its lifelong (because there is presently no cure for the condition), its a tolerable condition if you learn the signs of when you will have an outbreak, avoid sexual contact during your outbreaks, and always follow your preventative steps to avoid unnecessary outbreaks in yourself and transmission of herpes to others.

[5]. If you have experienced recurrent yeast infections despite receiving drug treatment. Recommend that your Gynae rotate your drug treatment as your body may have gotten used to the drug & therefore the drug fails to heal your infection.

[6]. The symptoms of most Vaginal infections, e.g. yeast, thrush, BV and UTI are similar or overlap. So, if this is your first infection or you sense this infection is greatly different from what you have experienced. My best advice is to “Seek Professional Assistance”. Visit a Gynae or Family clinic, because in most of cases your best chance of being certain about what your infection is or is not is through the blood test, culture sampling, and other diagnostic procedures that these professionals are equipped to carry out. Furthermore, you get the oppurtunity to have someone (more knowledgeabl & experienced than urself) look “down there” and give you advice relevant to YOUR Situation.

In my case I now know that clotrimazole is too strong for my skin & caused further irritation in my case. Depending on how long and how rough the sex, I occassionally get itchy/ tingly after having sex with my bf but it tends to last a few minutes to an hour (“Knock on wood”). Nevertheless, the terror of experiencing another yeast infection keeps me exercising the advice I listed above to keep myself safe. I believe the saying is Very True that “Prevention is ALWAYS better than Cure”.

All the best Ladies.

I’ve been with my boyfriend for 3 years now, we were both our first and only partner that we’ve ever had. When we first even thought of having sex unprotected we got tested, but it was negative. When we first started i didn’t really notice a burning feeling but to be safe(because im just that way) i got a blood tested for any STDs or STIs tests again but it came back negative but when we continued to have intercourse I still had a slight burning feeling after and sometimes durring. I am on the birth control shot Depo. That is one of the symtoms of the shot but i don’t think thats what it is. Should i bring that up to my gyno? Also i was wondering is there any way u could just get an STD? I’m only fifteen so i do know a lot more stuff about this than most but i don’t know everything. Does anyone have advise an answer 2 my question or a diagnoses? Oh and its not a UTI/yeast infection….

Okay, so my boyfriend has came inside me twice. The first time he didn’t tell me (I know that’s messed up). The second time was an accident. Afterwards I had a very uncomfortable burning and a kind of stabbing sensation inside my vagina. I had only had it once before which was when he had came in me the last time but I did not know at the time that he had came so I just thought it was because it hurt? But I thought about it and if it only burned the way it did those two times it must have something to do with him cumming in me, right? Well I asked my sister if it had something to do with the birth control (Nuva ring) but she told me it was normal and happened to every girl. But when I asked my sister-in-law she said it was NOT normal? So I guess I’m just wondering if this happens to anyone else or (because my sister experiences it also) does it maybe just run in the family?

I was still with the same partner, but that was when we just started becoming sexually active. Could I have an STD, or is there any way of getting rid of the itchiness?

I have been with my boyfriend for almost 2 yrs now and about a month and a half ago I got on the pill and a few weeks after that we started having sex without a condom. Recently, after sex without a condom, the very opening of my vagina has started to in a way sting? I dont know if thats the right word. Its a very slight burn or sting that is annoying and when I go pee right after the urine seems to in the slightest way burn it. But not excessively so just enough so that I have noticed. The stinging goes away after about a half hour to an hour ( after my body has pushed all of the semen out i assume). If I take a bath or shower and let water run over it, it helps a bit I am beginning to worry and I would just really like to know whats going on with my body. I cant fall asleep until the stinging goes away and during the stinging period I keep feeling like I need to pee even though I go right after sex. Any ides comments or advice would be greatly appreciated. Please and Thank you ><

every single time i have sex the area around my vagina itches like crazy for a few days afterwords. it becomes unbearable and very embarrasing. i cant even sit still because the itching gets so intense. could this just be a ph inbalance or something?

Also, with my new boyfriend the opening to my vagina has been burning towards the end of sex. it never burns afterwords, just during the last few moments of the actual act, and the itching is still there. my boyfriend used to have clymidia but has been cured. i trust him completly but im worried that he might still be able to transfer the STI,without knowing it, even if he’s clean. i know a symptom of clymidia is discomfort during sex so is this the reason im feeling discomfort towards the end but not after?

im very very paranoid and its freaking me out. i have no health insurance but im still trying to go to a doctor to get tested but i’d perfer to not have to if i dont need to. please help me!!!

Hi, I’m 17 and began having sex around March. When we first started having sex it was very painful as my vagina was very small for his dick. After the first 2/3 times I was fine. We had sex yesterday (first time I’ve had sex in over a month, same partner). Beginning earlier this morning, I started to feel this burn around my vaginal opening. About 3 hours later I felt like I had to pee really bad, and would go, when I did it began burning worst, but it was only around my vagina. We use condoms every time, and I’m unsure if it is an allergy to latex (but I’ve never had this problem with latex gloves) or something else. We don’t have a planned parenthood here, and I can’t go to my Dr easily without my parents finding out. Please help, I don’t know what to do.

Why do I keep getting a BV infection even after taking proper precautions? Every time I use my dildo or vibrator I make sure to clean them ahead of time with the sex toy cleaner ,soap and water etc. I also always put a condom over both to prevent infection even after cleaning. I go to the bathroom before hand, but I ALWAYS end up with a BV infection after masturbating. I spoke to my doctor about it and at first she thought maybe I had developed an allergy to latex condoms. I tried non latex and it was only a tiny bit better, but the infection still comes right back. Then I go through another round of the antibiotics, feel fine but if I go back to using the sex toys get the infection right away. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to prevent this from happening? I have no STD’s, and not in a relationship at this time, and I clean the toys following the instructions even using a condom over both of them and I still end up with an infection. Please help!

(211) Hollie says:

Response to # 209, the doctor cannot legally tell your parents you are having sex. Seriously. Also, I think it would be best to tell your mother that you want to go to the doctor because your vagina feels itchy after using a new soap or something like that. Anything can cause you to feel uncomfortable down there, so it won’t be odd to your mother. Your getting older, so changes take place in your body. I am not encouraging lieing to your parents, but I do believe that you need to see a physician and don’t want you to NOT see one because you are fearful. Not going can cause you more damage then making up a story to be able to go.

Oh, make sure you remind your doctor that you DO NOT want it discussed with your parents. HIPPA protects you anyway. Be very open with your doctor. This way they can help you better.

(213) vicky says:

Hi there all. I think I have the answer. I have had this problem for roughly 3 years since I went on Microgynon 30. It was my first time on the pill so obviously it has effected my hormone levels. Me and my fiance always used to use condoms before but when i turned 16 i went on the pill fo more practical reasons than anything else. Anyway, I went to the doctors to try and get some help because it was so bad and getting worse. It took about 10 visits before they would give me a smear and examine me but all the tests came back negative. I ended up having 2 smears for the same things because my doctor was so useless.

I then started asking then if it could be anything to do with my pill and they said no and would not agree to change it. After much pleading they finally referred me to gynecologist. He gave me another examination and said I had very slight inflammation but nothing else. I then mentioned to him that I get very bad bouts of regular thrush. He then twigged that even when I don’t have a flair up this could be effecting it. (as it could with underlying issues that you didn’t know about) and said that it was more than likely it was my microgynon pill that was giving me too much oestrogen and causing me ph imbalances leading to thrush. He told me to stop taking microgynon immediately and have 4 weeks off the pill completely to see if anything were to improve. If it was he would state to my GP that I needed a modern low dose pill. So here I am, and all because my GP didn’t want to give me a more expensive pill I experienced years of suffering. But I’m healed. Finally.

It’s probably a UTI. Burning, urgency, and slightly pink or dark urine are symptoms of a UTI. You’ll need to go to your doctor to get antibiotics to treat it. In the meantime, you can buy AZO from the drug store that will help with the burning and urgency. A trick that my college roommate shared with me is to drink Crystal Light pink lemonade. I thought she was kidding, but she’s prone to UTIs and her doctor recommended it. Even though I thought it was silly, I tried it the next time I felt burning and urgency. The pink lemonade did the trick! I didn’t even need to Get a prescription! You definitely need to go to the doctor though. When it’s that far along, you need a prescription. Hope you feel better soon!

I’m very prone to UTIs and other vaginal infections, and I know the burning and pain can be very unbearable. Most people don’t have money to keep running to the doctor. But I found that if you drink Alka Seltzer twice a day, (two tablets in the morning and two in the evening) it relieves the pain and burning. Just a fast relief for anyone who needs it! It was such a life saver for me. Hope it helps! And try looking up natural and home remedies. Your body reacts way better to natural medicines, especially if you are very sensitive like me. Yogurt, and lots of water! And incorporate some garlic into your diet, but try to stay away from foods high in acids. For burning after intercourse, try taking a bath in Epsom salt, or baking soda.
