Ovulation Pain and Adhesions
I have had 2 laparoscopies due to adhesions and tubal blockages. Could this pain be due to and egg trying to move through the tubes or the egg actually moving and causing another organ to move due to adhesions and being adhered to another part of my abdominal organs. I have also had a lot of severe pain when trying to have a BM during this time. If anyone has any insight on this, please feel free to talk to me. What do you think?

I am having the same problems. I have had a laparscopy and a hysterscopy and they found I have ovarian cysts so they did what they call ovarian drilling but I am still having pain. I go back to the Dr. next week for my 5 week checkup, hopefully he can help me.
I also am having the same symptoms. I have been experiencing this for a while now and had a laproscopy in may this year. The only finding from the lapro was scar tissue on the back side of my uterus. I have such bad pain during ovulation that it hurts to urinate, stand up, and the pain keeps me from sleeping much at all during the 5-7 days every month. I also have had a dramatic increase in pain during my periods and much more clotting than I used to. Spotting at times in between cycles. This has really been hard to deal with and I have gone to the ER numerous times because the pain is so bad. I am at a loss of what to do and have been told after being evaluated by a gastro doctor that this needs to be looked at by a different obgyn. I would appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks.
Hi im trying to find information on the internet as i have been suffering with really bad pains during the middle of my cycle, fro nearly a year now, the pain is so bad i find it dificulty just to get up and walk! I have been to my doctor about 5 times and each time he has just said ” I dont know what is going on!”
Im finind this very hard to deal with as i feel no one cares that i am in total agony!
After reading your stories it sounds as my symptoms may be this ovulation pain
i would just like to say thanks to you for sharing your stories and hope you are feeling better soon,
Take care

omg!!!! i am goin through the same thing the pain last for 5-6 day i cant walk or sit i have pain with bm and when i need to urinate it is such a debilitating feeling well i have a ct scan scheduled for tomm i will keep you posted and i can sympathize with the feeling of being alone i feel like a complainer!
I have the same thing going on. I have been to the ER and my OB/GYN. On Dec. 5th they will be removing my ovary. This has been happening every other month on the right side come to find out I have cysts there.
I am 39 and have been experiencing this for about 2 years..24-36 hours of pain and cramping occurring about 10-14 days following period - during ovulation. My doctor suspects cysts. Also pain with bm around that time, and occuring about every other month, sometimes every month. Thanks for the comments. Maybe I’m not crazy!
i have been getting abdominal pains every now and again but it got so bad i went to A&E but they told me it was just ‘mid cycle ‘ pain, but i am on the pill so does this mean i am still ovualting?please help
Even though I’m 52, I still get my period, although briefly & lighter, but for the past few years I have experienced this same mid-cycle pain on my right side for a few days. It wakes me up in the middle of the night and I’ve debated whether to go to the ER. My OBGYN has checked me for cysts, and found nothing. I told her again this Fall that this is still a problem and she suggested I call her the day I get my next period to schedule another vaginal ultrasound to see if there is a cyst or something. I’m glad to see I’m not crazy and the only one with this.
This month is the first time I’ve had this problem twice! I’m 53 and still having my period fairly regularly. Through the years I’ve sometimes been able to tell that I must be ovulating due to some pain on one side or the other about ten or so days after my period started. These last two times I had to do some LaMaze breathing to get through the “cramp attack” which lasted about two hours. I could hardly walk or sit. I then had some unexpected, light bleeding for a few days. I chalked it up to holiday stress but plan to see my doctor if it occurs again next month. Thanks to all of you for your input as my mind feels a bit more at peace. I am not alone. Good luck to us all as we figure out what is happening and search for relief.
Have you asked your doctor about endometriosis? My sister has that and the symptoms sound very similar. Hope you find some relief. Check the Mayo Clinic website for good, reliable info.
I am glad I am not the only one experiencing the same exact thing to a tee. I had a hystorectomy, but they left in my ovaries, and drained a cyst on one of my ovaries. Well 8 months later the cyst grew back, and I have been through every test imaginable, for them to tell me I have a cyst & scar tissue that is attached to my bowel. Not fun stuff, I am going in to hopefully have my ovary removed tomorrow. I wish everyone of you ladies the best of luck!!!!
I also have this pain, starts normally on about day 10 of my cycle for 3 or 4 days. I pain alternating between RHS of abdomen, middle of abdomen and LHS of abdomen. I also get similar pain at different times of mye cycle too. I have been diagnosed with Endometriosis but now my Gyno says that all my Endo was removed during my Lap and its not that anymore!. I see him again next week, i’m sure its still Endo related.
OMG! I have had near the same thing since I have had my tubes tied 5 years ago.I know when i am ovulating it is so painfull. If I don’t take Aleve or something as soon as the pain starts I’m in pain for the next 2-3 days. I also get my monthly period a week or so after i have ovulated with lots of cramping and clots.. I just need a solution
I thank God that i’m not the only one who is experiencing mid cycle pains. The pain lasts for 24 to 36 hours and its terrible. I have been so scared that i might be suffering from a dreaded desease but i’m relieved now that i’m not alone in this. I’m 40 and have never been pregnant. Will this problem affect me in case i want to make a baby?
Hi, I have been suffering with ovulation pain for about 5 years now. Roun about the 13th - 15th day of my cycle I have horrific pains, I find it very painful to move about and even sitting can be painful. this usually wakes me up in the middle of the night. I have been to my doctors on and off and she has agreed with me that if is ovulation pains, I have been prescribed mefenamic acid, which I start taking at about day 12 of my cycle, which seems to help. What I want to know though is do we have to suffer for the rest of our lives? I have every sympathy with you and hope you get some relieve pretty soon.
Angela, Edinburgh, Scotland
I am currently experiencing this too. Having had no pains during my period I am now on day 13 and feel like I’m having them now instead !
I have been trying to have a baby for 6 years and really hope that this isn’t a bad sign fertility-wise….
I’ve had ovarian cramping since my last C-section (1995). I just had a hysterectomy and the OBGYN decided to leave it cause it looked good. So my suffering continues. grrrr… I just want to know if anyone found a pain reliever that works? So far I have not found pain relief, not even narcotics take that pain away.
Jo-Ann
I am late 30s and never had children and not planning on having any. I always wondered if that is why I have suffered from this pain. Now that I see women with children have this, I don’t know what to think. For the last couple of years I have been experiencing this. I am glad to see I am not alone and crazy. I am going through this right now. I decided to just look up some info and found this site. My doctor (which I will be changing) has told me a little discomfort happens in 20% of women. My pain is a dull ongoing pain that lasts for about 4 days. Nothing I have taken has helped. I would be ever grateful for answers and some kind of relief.
I am 46 and I just had a hysterectomy Nov. 2007 but my Dr. left one ovary. I have ovulation pain every month grrr. I get severe pain where it feels like you need to have a bowelmovement but you don’t,you almost feel constipated. And I feel like I have a lot of pressure. Any suggestions on relief would be great!!!
I am happy to have found these comments from all of you so thanks. On the other hand I am sad that we are all suffering so much pain with no real explanation from the medical community. I am 33 and was recently diagnosed with endo and had a lap. My pain is always on the right side. It isn’t as debilitating as some describe, but it is disconcerting. I have been trying to get pg for ages and have damage to my right tube so a pg will not come from ov’ing on that side. Anyway I wish you all luck with your pain. It does make feel better and less freakish that I am not the only one suffering like this.
I am 39 years old and have been having pain on the RHS on ovulation for years. I get bloated & swollen, nauseated, hot flushes, cant sleep. I feel like a surge of something hits me and my ovary pumps. Had lap nothing specific - scarring. Thanks for leaving your comments, I get frustrated that this happens every 2nd month, sometimes 2 days feels much longer! Be positive..
I am SO glad I am not alone. I first got an attack of this pain about four years ago so severe I landed in the hospital — CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound, could find nothing! Talk about feeling crazy. It was happening once or twice a year (one attack floored me in the middle of a business trip - ended up in the hospital again, thinking it was appendicitis). Is there any way to get rid of it? Are birth control pills the answer? Last night it hit me again and I still feel bloated and crampy. Thank goodnees for naproxen! Would taking the ovaries out cure the problem?
My symptoms sound like many of you. Around 3 yrs ago I started having sharp and throbbing pains on right side. Exploratory surgery showed that my right ovary looked like a lumpy gourd. Doc. said nothing to worry about. Now I am having same pain only worse, it hurts so bad at night I cant sleep and the pain runs down my leg.It usually happens midway between periods. I also wonder if it has to do with tubes being tied. Ever wonder where those eggs go?
I have had two friends who have had systs burst in their ovary my doc.said that it is normal. I hate the fact that all these docs. have such different opinions.I keep wanting to go back but do not want to spend more money on tests.I think I may just need to have it removed. I am glad to hear from others who feel the same, now i don’t feel so nuts.
Doesn’t it seem odd that there seem to be so many of us (and those of us who have found each other are probably a small minority) yet the condition has no name and no treatment? Let’s start a support group. How about www.ovulationpainsupport.com
Just after reading all of these comments it’s made me feel a little better!! I thought I was the only one out there suffering from this freaking pain every month! I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and my left ovary was removed. They left my right one and this is where I feel the pain and sometimes it last for over a week!!! I tried birth control pills and they made me sick so I stopped. I told Doc to take the damn thing out, therefore I will be menepausal at 39. YIKES!!! I have to do what I have to do! This pain is horrible! I can’t even get out of bed and today I tried to go tanning , which Im addicted to and I didn’t even do that! This SUCKS!!
OMG!!! I can’t believe I’m not alone. This started about 4 years ago but my doctor told me it was due to the extreme stress I was under: mom died suddenly, very high energy terribly stressful job & a newlywed all at the same time. I was only having it now and then over a 6 month period, then it stopped. She said it was menorraghia (or something like that) and gave me Ultram which worked well. The pain decreased but my flow increased from 3 days to 7 days with a lot of clots. For the past year, its back again and the pains are blinding during ovulation. This past Saturday it struck me as me and husband were leaving the house — I stood there frozen. It felt like a sharp knife straight up the uterus and into the pelvis and some serious pressure in the rectum as if I had a horrible bout of gas. If I thought it wouldn’t hurt even more to drop to the floor, I would’ve. This went on intermittently all day and lasted into the next day. Finally, the sun came out last night and it subsided to a sort of ‘hum’. During ovulation my sleep habits are bat-like and way off. I’m 47 and haven’t had any children; what a toss off the cliff!
I find it amazing that so many of us are experiencing the same type of pain and symptoms and yet no one seems to have found any real relief. Makes me nervous. I have side pain during ovulation every month and have had since my 4 year old was born. With my first pregnancy 6 years ago, I developed fibroid cysts. They enlarged during both pregnancies, but were significantly reduced after each birth. My doc thinks they might be causing the problem, but I don’t agree. My pain seems to occur primarily on the right side but some months is does effect the left side. It always lasts about 24-36 hours and seems to subside when I finally have a BM. During the peak of the pain I can hardly stand up, and can’t stand up straight. I have to do ‘lamaze’ breathing when I urinate. It seems that when I relax my bladder to empty it, it really causes pain. And there are times when the pain shoots through my rectum like a sharp, hot knife. My Mom, bless her heart, has had a lot of ‘female’ problems in her life, and she thinks that I have adhesions due to my two Hysterectomies and I’d say she’s is right. She has adhesions and knows the pain. I find it interesting that some of you have endo, and I wonder if that could be a possibility for me, too. For now the doc has me on Tramadol for pain, but it makes me nauseous and only takes the edge off of the pain. He has suggested BC pills but at 44, I don’t really want to go back to that. And I certainly don’t want to go in for a Hysterectomy. Mom suggested going to a Gastroenterologist so that may be my next step. I’m so glad I found this page.
In my previous post I stated that I had two hysterectomies when I meant to say two C-sections. Just wanted to clear that up!
First of all I’m so glad I found this forum. Thank you to all the other ladies for describing your symptoms, and I do sympathise with you! I only have one ovary and it really makes its presence known every month! Do any of you ladies find it painful even to sit down? When mid-month pain is at its peak I have to lower myself gently into a chair! Plus shooting pains in the rectum as one other lady has described. Aside from painkillers, I assume there is no real solution apart from having the ovary removed. Has anyone heard of this last resort step being taken? Of course it would precipitate the menopause. I’m in my late 40s though so maybe not too long to go! By the way my other ovary had to be reoved a few years ago after it was totally enveloped by a huge cyst. So I am nervous about pains on the other side, but the medical profession have been understanding with me and I’ve had a couple of scans and a laparoscopy over the years (nothing found).
Anyway ladies, hope you find ways of dealing with it all and that one day your pains will stop! I feel relieved though that I am not alone with this problem. It doesn’t seem to get mentioned much (people often talk about period pain).
By the way, slightly off subject, if you are having terrible bleeding and pain during your period and have completed your family, you might want to ask your GP about “endometrial ablation” which removes the womb lining, no need for a hysterectomy.
Best wishes to you all.
I have the same problem as all of you. To me it just feels cramps for about 4 or 5 days. So I sort of feel lucky that I do not have the severe pain. The only thing that gets rid of it for me is taking birth control pills. It works like a charm. But I just stopped taking them to try and have another baby…..1st month off the pills and the pain is back. At least I know when I am ovulating. I wish there were a better way to deal with it. Good luck everyone and ask your doctor if birth control pills are right for you. It was so releaving once I no longer had the pain.
This thread has been very interesting! I went off the Pill two weeks ago and am at Day 15 of my cycle. I’m wondering that since I haven’t ovulated in 8 years if it’s coming back with a vengence. It’s on the lower right side by the appendix and there’s light-moderate pain and it hurts when I walk. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I am 29 and have been having this off and on for the past 8 years, when it first started it was so severe I went to the emergency room. I was told that it was ovulation pain. Right now as I am typing this, I am ovulating and hurting bad. It is on my lower left side, that I can handle, it is the pain when I stand up or start to sit down that gets to me. The pain when I have to pee or have a BM, actually sometimes feels like I need to have a BM when I really don’t. I was told by one doctor a few years back that birth control was the only way to really solve the problem. Birth control keeps you from ovulating therefore no ovulation=no pain. I can’t take the pill and I am not taking shots, so I have just been suffering through it. Sometimes I get lucky and ovulate with no pain at all, wish this was one of those months…
Same story…4-5 years of this pain. Sometimes it skips a month, but I am doubled up in pain for 3-4 days when it does hit. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary disease about 6 years ago. Have been taking Yaz Birth control for about a year and a half. It relieved pain up until about 5 months ago, now I am starting to hurt again. If a man suffered from this, there would have solution by now (hee hee)! I hope any doctors out there reading this will take us seriously. This isnt just “mittlewhatever”
I am so relieved i found this site somehow.i have been suffering this crazy condition for at least 10 years and thought i was the only one. Now i know i am not imagining this condition. Like some i thought i had a dreaded disease and one day it will be too late. The pain last for about 5 days and 6-8 times a day/night and very very severe.Bm pain, pressure, pain down my rt leg,o so tender all over and of course my mood is snappy thru all this. my hub has been very patient thru all this. Thanks God .i am only about 10% of myself and put myself in danger on road driving some times. Because i thought it(pain) is in my head and i should what i am supposed to do(realtor). spent a lot of money on so many tests, i had given up and then i found you all. Finally there is a glimmer of hope. Thanks you all.
I’m so relieved to read of others who suffer this pain. I was on the pill for about 10 years because of terrible periods but have now been off it (because I’d like to have children) for about 5 years and in the past couple of years I’ve been getting terrible pain around mid cycle.
It’s really odd because I often get no period pain at all, just this horrible ovulation pain, which can last for days. It seems to start vaguely niggling around day 8 or so and then be at its most severe around day 10 or 11. Usually it’s worst on my right side but this month I also had period-like cramps in the middle. I’ve been so worried that I have some really sinister disease! I hope that’s not the case for any of us.
I also find that I have pain when I pee and with BMs too. Nasty! Do any others of you find that you seem bloated around this time? I find that I look really “rounded” low down and just “wrong” which is worrying. I also get indegestion worse around this time. Anyone else? I’ve read about too many scary illnesses on the internet and really need my mind putting at rest! (I’m 31 by the way).
Thanks all for sharing your stories. It really helps.
Mittleschmertz is “mid cycle” pain - so according to this it should be around day 14, and on the side of ovulation.
I’m glad to read some feel this early on as I, like clock work feel horrible day 10. Actually, it started today and is day 9. Do you feel it in the middle, near the uterus? Rather than side pain at the site of the ovary? And if you do have pain in the middle…have you had any surgeries to date? I have, and I have many of the symptoms already listed, such as painful bladder and BMs for 3-4 days. I wonder if the hormones from ovulation are causing pressure on scar tissue from a C-sec.
i am 33 and i have always had some months with severe pain in my right side mid cycle which usually lasts a day or two but the last two months now i have had a mild period cramp like pain that seems to be in the middle (uterus kind of area) which last month lasted about 5 days, this month it has been 5 days and i still have the pain. I also feel pain when i have a BM. I have been so scared that i have got something terribly wrong with me like cancer, that i have been too scared to see my doctor (who i really dont like) It is comforting to know i am not alone with this although feel bad that we all have to suffer in this way.
Great to find all your comments although I agree it sucks we’re all suffering. I came off pill last summer and since then have had terrible pain and bloating midcycle - so bad I can’t bend over. Seems to last about a week although feels much much longer. Currently in early stages of tests - scan for polycystic ovaries showed ‘lots of cysts’ on right side but ‘not typical’ of the syndrome - what does that mean ?!! No-one seems to be able to tell me if PCOS is something that develops ie mine could ‘grow’ into that, or whether it would have been immediately at the stage they class PCOS. Have all the other symptoms but feel no-one if helping. Periods non-existant but midcycle horrendous - almost like something is trying to happen but isn’t. Can any of you help? Having read all your comments I’m worried I’m just at the beginning of many painful years to come!!
Thank you ladies. Having read everyone’s post, I feel not alone with this disease. I had years of pain from endometriomas with painful periods… but lately, my period is getting shorter (and managed much better) but my mid-cycle pain is getting worse and unbearable. It starts from day 8 for about a week. Some days worse than others (up to 7 anti-flammatory tablets a day). It seems to get progressively worse from discomfort to outright throbbing pain. The options I was given by the doctor is to go on a pill (stop ovulation and hopefully no pain) or have a hyster. I have been on various herbs but not much success. This month however, I had taken high dose of evening primrose oil capsules and it seems to take pain away completely. I am still skeptical as some months I get considerable less pain (probably no ovulation) but I am hopeful. Because I still got other symptoms like tiredness and general unwellness but minus the pain…. also, I took naprogesic on the onset for couple of days… not sure whether that had any affect. But I have my fingers crossed.
I’m so relieved to have found this blog
Thank you!! It is slightly comforting to know I am not abnormal and that there are so many of us experencing this horrible Mid-Cycle pain and I mean PAIN!!.
What’s the go with this Mid-cycle pain……I mean we already get periods and give birth, so why ovulation pain? Have or do we not suffer enough?? - Grrrrr!
I am 26 and have been experencing a severe, sharp, stabbing like pain in the abdomen and in my buttocks region during my mid-cycles for the past 6yrs or so.
I can’t sit down or even touch my backside when this happens. Going to the toilet I won’t even begin there as the thought of it is making me cringe. This pain brings to me tears everytime. It lasts for a few days and the severity of it changes. I find the mornings are worst for me. A few times my partner has come close to taking me to A&E, it gets that bad!! I bloat to the point where I look pregnant and have no drive or energy. I normally get the Wheat bag out, have a bath, try to relax or take strong pain killers for it but it’s not easy when you think you are going to die from pain.
I’m not on birth control and didn’t really want to start to because of the pain. After reading how everyone deals with it and having read natural remedies I will try them all.
If I have success I will tell the WORLD! Good luck everyone..
Yes! I’m so relieved to have found this site. I was beginning to think I had some terrible disease as well. Last few months I’ve had pain and discomfort from days 10-14. One sided pain, bloating, VERY uncomfortable bladder, discomfort with BM, sometimes nausea and/or acid reflux. My GYN is at a loss. Suspects endometriosis again (I had lap surgery 12 years ago - he removed a few endo implants and I’ve been doing very well ever since) But back then my endo pain was only with menstruation - who knows. Hopefully we will all get the answers we need soon. Best wishes to you all!
Has anyone had swollen lymph nodes in the groin as well as ovulation pain-I have had a swollen one on the right side for almost a week now-on wikipedia it is listed as a symptom of mittelschmerz-curious if anyone else has this too.
Wow, well I am currently having the same pain and it has been happening for quite some time. Taking motrin helps me, but does not take the pain away completely. I currently have one tube and one ovary, as the other tube and ovary were removed due to a etopic pregnancy. I have had this pain ever since then. I was starting to feel crazy and maybe that I was overacting. It’s relieving to see that I am not the only one.
im not alone! mine last for about 5 days and hurts to walk and sit down but it hurts the most to touch my abdomen its so tender and then it will just go away again for a month or 2 been doctors 5 times never got a answer! had all types of tests done on my bowels found nothing. must been mid cycle pains it always starts on day 14 of my cycle!
I am currently laying in bed with my laptop wondering what I am going to do with this pain. Last year my GYN suggested removing my uterus and I declined. She says often a tilted uterus can create BM problems and pain like we are experiencing. I am only 26 and have had one ovary removed ten years ago. I’d like to keep my “parts” unless there is something really wrong. Sex is so horribly painful, as is BM, or just sitting down. help!
I’m sitting here suffering from exactly the ssame thing and I’m so relieved I’m not going crazy. I’m 41 and have had mid cycle pain for years but nothing like this past year. Mid cycle bleeding, cant stand, the pain doubles me over and I wonder if I should go to the ER.
It’s awful that so many of us are suffering the same thing.
I’m 26 and I’ve been hospitalized four times for the same pain and I get the round around from dr’s. go to your GI, then he says go to gyno, then she says, go to urologist. I can’t deal with the pain anymore and I actually call my regualr dr and cry to give me something for the pain which he won’t. I feel like a drug addict when I do it, but I can’t deal with this. My periods are irregular when they’ve been regular since I’ve been on the pill 10 years ago, until about a year or two ago. My period is late on the pill, my cramps last all month, I get migrane, left stomach pain..finally my gyno said she’s going to do laproscopic surgery to see if I have endometriosis. I’ve gained 30 pounds that won’t come off even though I run anywhere between 4-10 miles a day and eat well. I was up all night crying in pain. I feel like no one is listening. I am so glad to find this post because now I know I’m not losing it and that others have this pain too.
I can’t believe so many women are having this same pain as I am. I actually thought I was crazy and was going to cancel my obgyn appointment to talk to my doctor about it. I too fear it has something to do with my ability to bear child. I have had 2 miscarries and 1 successful birth. But it took me 4 years to be successful, I thank God for my little man. It is just really stressful knowing there is so many of us going through the same thing and there isn’t anything anyone seems to know about this. It is obviously a condition! But the doctors say “mid cycle cramping” because they don’t know what the hell is causeing it. I don’t have much faith in any of the doctors these days!
I have all of the symptoms that everyone here has. It is so crazy. I have been told by Dr.’s to see a back Dr. a bowel Dr. and a mental health Dr because they think I am depressed and the pain is all coming from that. The Dr’s seem to be the one’s that are crazy at times or just not care. Go figure. I have been through 3 Doctors in the past 5 years and undergone 5 surgeries. All to tell me that I have endo, adhesions and allan masters syndrome. I go through surgery thinking everything will be better soon and Bam it is all back again. The pressure on the bowels when sitting or trying to use the restroom, severe back pain, pain in the lower belly area, heavy clotting, and on and on. I have now done research and found a Dr. (Specialist) in GA. He personally calls me up and says ” Yes you do have endo, but did you know that you have a tilted uterus?” I said well it was mentioned to me but they (Dr.) were not concerned about it. He told me that all of my symptoms is coming from that. It lays back on your bowels, causes heavy clotting, constipation, diareah with the period and so on, all that I was feeling. I am scheduled for a Lapex surgery and a Laparscopic supracervical hystorectomy in 4 weeks. I will let you know if things improve. It will be a 1,200 mile round trip for me to see this Dr. but I feel it will be well worthe it.
I have been suffering for well over a year. I have two children and I am 35 years of age. Right at ovulation, my rectum begins to hurt. My description is gross, but is the most acurate to me….. When I sit down, I too have to ease down slowing, as I feel like someone has stuck a pole on my chair and I am sitting on it as I ease down. This will usually last for about a day and hurts when I try to have a BM. When I do have a BM, it is almost like I can feel it pass a certain area of my colon that is very sensitive. Weird, because I thought there were no nerve endings in your colon. How do I know that, because while I was pregnant with my second child, I developed ischemic colits at approx week 35 or 36 of gestation. My periods are regular but very heavy these days. It also seems to take about 3-4 days before I have full, heavy flow of my period, during the 3-4 days its just spotting and uterine wall. Come on gals, don’t be so modest, describe the pain how it really is. Anyone else feel like they are sitting on a broom stick when it happens? My doc thinks there is some sort of swelling going on, pressing on my colon, say ovaries and would like for me to have a colonoscopy.
I have been experiencing the same exact thing, now i know i am not alone. I hate it i can barely walk and it also hurts my lower back, this seems to hit me every month without fail, but right now it seems to be at its worst, maybe because i am under a lot of stress in my life. I am not sure if the condition worsens under stress, if someone could please answer my inquiry it would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Leylee, I have’t paid much attention to correlation between stress and the pain. I really did not think I was very stressed, but about a month ago, I broke out in shingles, so go figure! I am a stay at home mom as of a year ago. My prior job was very stressful, and that is why I stay home now. While I was working, I would have this pain along with a throbbing or shooting pain down my left leg. Almost like I could feel the blood shooting through the big artery in my thigh. I’m not sure if that is related or not. I also have the lower back pain when the “mid cycle broom stick pain” comes along with shooting gas pains too. Sometimes that can be so strong that if I’m already sitting I have to slowly readjust myself in a differnt position, which then means I have to slowly sit back down as to not “sit on the pole”. BM’s during this time are also painful as I said in my prior blog. How many of you think it is Ovaries and how many of you think it is GI endometriosis, or both? I hate to get the run around from docs and since it seems so many are dealing with this and getting varying diagnosis, although I know that we are all made up differently. Plus insurance deductibles don’t make this any easier on the mind or the pocket! Good luck to all. I will keep checking in. K
thank you!
Ladies, First of all let me say….I LOVE YOU ALL…LOL…thank you for your comments, it feels great to know that are woman out there with the same pain I have. Yesterday it started, 13 days after the start of my last period, and boy the pain yesterday was almost unbearable…left ovary pain, lower back pain, pain shooting down my leg, and whenever I stood up, walked or sat down…UGH…the pain worsened. My ovulation pain started about 9 years ago…sometimes it’s not as severe but this time is a doozy…like some other ladies said, I feel like I have to have a BM, which I do, but it’s just the worst pressure. So as I write this now it’s a dull aching pain across my lower abdomen, in my lower back too, and kinda a full feeling in my rectal area. And I know once I go to stand I’ll have to get up slowly, walk slowly and sit again slowly, I’m 46 years old, but today I feel much older !! I did down some Ibuprofen a couple times yesterday but it really didn’t help. When the pain comes in waves I try to breathe deeply and focus on something else. Good Luck ladies. Hope you all feel better.
Wow…I don’t feel so alone now. I had a laparascopy a few years back because of this horrible pain. The doctor found adhesions and endometriosis. He lasered the adhesions, because they were joining my organs together, causing a great deal of pain whenever I attempted to sit…it damn near shot me back out of my chair. I conceived my son approximately one year after that surgery, and he is now two. I had him by c-secion because he was breech. I was having regular less painful periods, and couldn’t believe it. HOWEVER, during the last three months or so, things have gotten bad. I was lying in my bed breathing through pains, balling my eyes out, and that was before the period began…I believe it showed up ten minutes after that lol. This past month, around mid cycle, I had a constant ache of pressure in my lower abdomen, that was so painful, and during a BM I just wanted to die. I am making a doctors appt. because I have done some research on adhesions, and many doctors won’t do anything about them, because in a lot of cases, they come back. They are part of the bodies defense mechanism. When your body is injured inside, or cut for surgery etc. it develops scar tissue, which can come in the form of adhesions….so I’m thinking that my c-section quite possibly caused the little buggers to come back. I don’t want to go through another surgery, but the pain is unreal, and is emotionally painful as well I find.
Thank you to everyone for sharing your stories, because I think you really feel alone in this when going through it. Especially when you can’t get a straight answer from anyone about what you are experiencing. You really don’t know what it’s like until you’ve felt it!
Best of luck too all the women, suffering with something that is supposed to be natural.
2 Questions for you ladies… Does it hurt when any of you have intercourse? Have any of you been told that you have a tilted uterus?
I am stunned! You women have made me cry. Like so many of you I thought I was going mad. But is real isnt it? I have had the pain for the last 6 years. Sometimes its so bad, I see spots, feel faint and sick. I get swelling and a pain like a hot rock where my ovary should be. Mine has coincided with constipation, (Sexy huh!)despite eating enough fibre and fruit to sink a battleship. The Doctors have poked and prodded me (colonoscopy was clear) to no avail. I have a fibroid in my uterus, but they said that wouldn’t be causing the pain. Does anyone know if a sign of a tilted uterus would be if the Doctor couldn’t find your cervix during a smear test. She had to use a torch LOL! Thank you so much for your honesty - stay strong!!
I had the same pains for years as you all describe usually on Day 11-13 of my cycle lasting 2 days. When my OBGYN suggested exploratory surgery I knew I had to change my approach. I went to a homeopath who prescribed Foliculinum and haven’t had a pain since!
Hi ladies, it seems like all women tend to go through this at one stage of there life and the pain varies in everyone. I too suffer extreme pain and it reminds me of when i was in labour with my 2 kids. When the pain is at it’s peak i feel like i want to push something anything out. i only ever get it in my right side and latley have had a bit of kidney pain with it and like some of the other ladies sometime i too feel like i have sat on a broom stick. During this time i feel very bloated, get bad headaches and get lower back pain.I have also put on a lot of weight and believe that this could of caused some of it (lazeiness the other of it) i now dread having my period and live on panadol for about a week as it lasts between 6-10 days. i was always under the belief that after you have children you pains go away and have read that if you have Endometriosis that pregnancy can fix it. i have had 2 children and its only after have my first darling child that the pain started. i have seen a doctor and she told me i have to do some tests but i have failed to do that as i am scared of what they will tell me as i do want more kids as i’m only 33. i am now considering moving up the baby making process to NOW rather than later just so i dont have to face anymore pain for the next 10-12 months. it seems from what i have research and read that most woman are dammed to live with it as most MALE gp’s dont see the concern and believe its’ all in a womans head. and a female gp who have never had pre menstrual cramps wouldn’t understand what it’s like to live with every month. The wise thing to do is find a specialist who knows more about this condition..Advise i will be following as i know its the best thing for me and my family.
Oh My God - such a relief to find that I’m not imagining the pain! I have a tilted womb, and had never before linked it to the pain. Some months are worse than others, but when the ovulation pain stops I have about 2/3 days before period cramps/PMS starts. My cylce is 25 days, so I guess I get about 7 days cramp/painfree, feeling ‘normal’ a month.
Such a relief to hear all your stories.
I suffer too! I recommend you all look into alternative therapies as I have. Your GP, MD, OBGYN will let you suffer or take your ovaries. I am so fed up of looking for answers. Think I am on to something with **NATURAL PROGESTERONE** check into it! Good luck ladies…beware the “pole” : )
Hi ladies, I feel relieved to hear from you guys. Every cycle I have a severe cramping, srt of dull pain and a burning sensation?? THe pain goes down the tops of my legs and in my back. It is so miserable I feel like dying. It lasts about 3 days. I also have been diagnosed with Endometriosis and had surgery but I feel like doctors don’t have a clue what to do with us and if they don’t know they just diagnose Endo. I”m so tired of it and I’m trying to have a baby. I also feel really bloated and pressure feeling.
I’ll be echoing so many of your comments. I just had a diagnostic lap to figure out what could be the cause of this debilitating mid-cycle pain. Of course, I thought I was finally going to have an answer and they didn’t find anything. I’ve been feeling like I was going crazy, because I know I’m not a pain wimp, but this knocks me out for 2-3 days. I also have painful bms, urinating, and migraines that go with it. It seems like the only way to get through those days, is to lay down and stay completely still, and just breathe. Pain killers don’t seem to work. They only make me vomit, which causes so much pain I just cry. I also look like I’m about 4 months pregnant when this happens, and I can’t button my clothes around the waist. No one has an answer, but after all of my reading and researching, I think that natural progestone may be the key. Look up estrogen dominance and see if those symptoms apply to you all in general. Estrogen and progesterone need to aways be in the right balane of each other. Especially in the US, with BCP and estrogens pumped into our meats, there have been studies that show that we have higher levels of estrogen. It’s my theory, but I bet you it may create the “sever mid-cycle pain syndrome” because ovulation is when there is supposed to be a surge of progesterone. Just a thought. I’m hoping to find answers here. Best of luck to all.
Hello Ladies,
Well thank heavens there are women out there that I can relate to. About 1 1/2 years ago I started having “twinges” in my lower back around the time of ovulation. Over the past year, it has become increasingly more painful. It always lasts about 5 days, and always occurs on the right side (love to know why). The pain is severe enough to wake me up at night, and I find the one side is always swollen. The women in my family tend to hit menopause early, so I thought this might be a symptom of that, but I haven’t had any irregular periods. In fact, they have been more regular, and more heavy. It’s amazing that there doesnt seem to be a solid cause for such debilitating pain..it actually feels a lot like labour to me.
Like most of you. I have had the same pain for over 7 years- ususally right side. Have had colon checked- had a laroscopy (found some endometrosis/ but doc said ovaries looked good?). But having the endo removed did nothing! Had tons of ultrasounds and the answers are always its just mid-cycle pain. I had the same pain while pregant with 2nd child. Did not think you ovulate while pregant? The doctors then say maybe cyst- but none show up on ultrasound? So, then comes the fall back- try birth control or pain medicine. The bloating, pain in bowels, the severe pain in the ovaries. I worry about ovarian cancer! But after a few days- Im back to my normal self. That much transformation in our bodies for ovulation- something has to be wrong. Im thinking about having my right ovary removed. Maybe they will find something when its out?? Thanks for the site. You really feel alone and crazy. Most docs are only concerned about the periods. Hopefully if enough of us get together- we may find some answer.
Hi, Thanks for this chat. I’ve been having ovulation pain too, not too bad but I recently had my first seizure out of the blue. I’m trying life on rice milk, giving up the soy milk (which has phytoestrogens) in it. I hear US milk injects their cows with estrogen to make them produce more milk so you might consider trying something like this too???
I’ll let you know how I go.
Thanks again, Janette
I’m 47 years old, never had children (my choice) and have been having severe mid-cycle pain every month for the past 7 years. Always on the right side. It wakes me up in the middle of the night and lasts for 3-5 days. Severe back pain before and during plus bloating, headaches and just a general feeling of malaise. I’ve always been very healthy and the recent blood tests I had done show no signs of cancer or anything amiss…perfectly healthy. I’ve tried rubbing progesterone on my belly, taking wild yam, primrose oil, b6 and b12 with no change. The only thing that eases the pain, but is certainly no solution, is sleeping with a heating pad and wearing adhesive heat pads during the day. My next attempt for pain relief will be with a naturapath as regular doctors are useless.
thank god i found this post! i thought i was crazy and alone - now i feel much better. had a uterine artery embolization 6 mos ago and got on the pill many years ago to help with menstral pain. no longer have severe cramping, bleeding, and clotting but now have mid cycle pain and cramping every month. meclofenamate (or meclemen) is the pain killer i’m on and it seems to help but not take pain away completely. i still get hot flashes and dull aches for a couple of days. but thank goodness i’m not alone! thanks for all of your comments!
Well ladies like I had said that I was going to go to a specialist in GA, and I did. He was awsome. He is a top gyno in the United States. Well anyways he had to take my uterus, and cervix, and appendix. Then clean out all of my endo. I had ALL of the same symptoms as you all do, I am now recovering from surgery. The Uterus is suppose to be like a strong muscle and it looked as if you would touch a marshmallow. I will keep you all updated and maybe he could have an answer for 1/2 of you. I can already see that I am not having the back pain as I was having and have been on my feet for a week at work. Keep your Heads Up there is HOPE!!
Wow- I am a bit scared reading oall of this- I just went off the pill and am in about my 8th day of my cycle and am having cramping- I am worried that I may have a cyst- is that what the consensus is or is it just ivulation pain? I had a baby 1 yr ago and have never had this pain ever- is it just more sensative now that I have gone through childbirth? any help I appreciate!!!
I AM SORRY TO SEE SO MANY OF YOU LADIES GOING THROUGH THIS. I AM 26 AND I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH IT FOR 9 YRS. AFTER HAVING MY DAUGHTER,I STARTED HAVING SLIGHT PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY WITH A VAG FISULA(YUKY!. AFTER I HAD A BOY BY C-SEC,AND STARTED HAVING PAINS SO BAD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CURL UP IN FETAL MODE ON THE FLOOR. THOSE ARE REALLY FUN! ANYWAYS I HAD 2 LAPROSCOPYS LAST YEAR AND THE DOC SAID I HAD ADHESSIONS GROWING TO MY OVERIES AND UTERUS, SO WHEN I WOULD STRETCH OR GET UP TO FAST IT WOULD PULL(OUCH!). AFTER THE SURGERY I WAS GOOD FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS PAIN FREE! AND NOW I MOVED SO I HAD TO FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR AND START ALL OVER, I HAVE NOW BEEN BLEEDING HEAVY AND CLOTTING HUGE FOR 3 MONTHS!THE PAIN HAS BEEN HERE AND THERE, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I SHOULD DO? I AM SCARED TO GET A HYSTORECTOMY @ MY AGE, BUT IT HAS COME UP AT THE DOCS. I AM SCARED AND CONFUSSED. HELP!!!!
I also experience pain in my lower pelvic area - it starts 10 days after my period has finished. My Dr. told me it is pulling on the scarred areas following my two c-sections. It started after my second baby was delivered by c-section. I have no other symptoms. It is more painful than my period. Relieved to see I am not alone.
