Ovarian Failure After Hysterectomy

"I'm 43, had a hysterectomy about six weeks ago. The doc said that my ovaries looked "fat and juicy, full of hormones" so she left them in. Four weeks later I'm getting the night sweats, feeling tired and miserable. Doc puts her head down and said "sometimes this happens, the ovaries go into shock and stop working after a hysterectomy." She added that it usually happens to older women, and she hasn't had a case where the ovaries have recovered... I'm just wondering how many other women have had this problem after hysterectomy. Is it as common as I've read? Or was my gyn right and that I'm just a fluke?"

Weight Gain Post Hysterectomy

"I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and have gained almost 30 pounds!... my doctors have been of no help. I've tried changing the dosage of my hormones, as well as the type. I am currently taking Estrace (2 mg). I am more active now than in the past and eat a pretty well-balanced diet.... Does anyone know of the exact connection between which hormones add weight and those that don't? Also, my lower abdomen is still slightly numb - is this normal and what are the odds that the muscles were damaged by the surgery?"

Hysterectomy Happiness

"I had a full hysterectomy to address precancerous cells in cervix and severe PMS (that was causing chaos in my life and had not improved with pills, progesterone etc. Best thing that ever happened to me. I recovered quickly, my hormones have been fine ever since, sex drive is just fine, do have to use lubes but that comes with aging anyway and the best yet - no menstruation/birth control pills! No hormone replacement, no signs of osteoporosis or other bone degeneration. 15 years later - no regrets."
