Definition: A procedure that removes a tissue sample for evaluation under microscope to determine an exact diagnosis. The procedure used to obtain the tissue sample can be done in several ways with the most common being a biopsy needle which is passed through the skin to reach the questioned spot, and invasive surgical procedures. The results of the biopsy will indicate either something that is benign or malignant.
