Traditional Genital Herpes Treatments

  • acyclovir (Zovirax)
  • famciclovir (Famvir)
  • valacyclovir (Valtrex)

It's important to keep the area affected by genital herpes dry and clean. Try not to touch the area and always wash your hands if you have touched the area affected by genital herpes. You should avoid sexual intercourse from the time you feel symptoms until the sores have healed to prevent spreading genital herpes to your partner.

Alternative Genital Herpes Treatments

  • support groups
  • various herbal and alternative therapies such as oxygen therapy; however, none of these appear to have a high rate of success in treating or preventing outbreaks of the herpes simplex virus (HSV)
