The symptoms of lower back pain may include:

  • Tenderness in the lower back.
  • Pain that radiates from the lower back down the legs.
  • Lower back pain accompanied by abdominal pain.
  • Pain in the lower back that occurs when bending or twisting.
  • Severe lower back pain that causes discomfort in any position whether standing, sitting, or lying down.
  • Muscle spasms.
  • Onset of bowel or bladder incontinence with lower back pain is serious--see your health care provider or go to your local emergency room immediately.

If you have lower back pain that is not helped by OTC products such as ibuprofen or naproxen, see your health care provider. If your lower back pain is sudden and severe call your health care provider and/or go immediately to your local hospital emergency room.
