Women's Health Freebies

This week several About.com Guides have gotten together and searched for the best free stuff in our individual topics.

The American Institute for Cancer Research offers informative programs designed to answer the questions that newly diagnosed cancer patients often ask. Programs are currently available for newly diagnosed breast, lung, colon, and prostate cancer patients.

The Center for Endometriosis Care provides several choices of articles which you can request. Issues covered include endometriosis and teenagers, pain after surgery, hysterectomy and endometriosis, and several other topics.

DES Action USA provides several free booklets that contain vital information for anyone born between 1938 and 1971 about diethylstilbestrol(DES). Daughters and sons born to women who were commonly given this drug to prevent miscarriage need to be aware of possible increased health risks, and women who delivered babies during these years need to learn about increased risks that they may face. These drugs were often given to unsuspecting women who believed they were taking vitamins. Free information includes material that tells you how to obtain your mother's medical records to determine whether she was given this drug. Explore the site, and if you still have questions send email with your postal address for further information.

Fairview Health Information offers free breast self-exam stickers and shower cards, as well as brochures and information about topics such as menopause, thyroid, menstruation, and nutrition, among other issues.

National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information offers several free posters that are excellent for teachers and others who work with teens to help make them aware of the danger of drugs and alcohol
