Question: I'm Pregnant and Have Gonorrhea - What Will Happen to My Baby?
Answer: Gonorrhea during pregnancy may be transmitted to your baby during birth as it passes through the birth canal during delivery. Your health care provider can prevent infection of your newborn's eyes by applying silver nitrate or other medications to the eyes immediately after birth. It is recommended that all women be screened for gonorrhea at least once during pregnancy due to the potential risks to newborn babies.
