Question: What is ASCUS?
If your doctor's office calls following your Pap smear, it's often to report abnormal changes seen on your Pap. You shouldn't worry too much. Just make sure to follow up with your doctor as recommended. You might have a lot of following up appointments, but understand that these follow up visits and procedures are meant to help prevent cervical cancer from occurring.
Answer: ASCUS is an acronym for aytypia squamous cells of undetermined significance. ASCUS occurs when squamous cells form on the surface of the cervix. Squamous cells are thin flat cells. ASCUS is considered a mild abnormality.
