What Happened When You Had Bleeding Between Periods?
When I was younger being too stressed, and being under weight at other times had caused bleeding between periods for me. My first pregnancy ended with heavy bleeding resulting in 1 month bed rest in hospital after hanging out washing while pregnant. During my first trimester of 2nd pregnancy I had spotting. Later at age 38 I experienced more spotting and frequency, sometimes longer heavier bleeding with blood clots during my periods; sometimes 2 periods per month. All this caused me physical pain and stress with time of work and my family to worry.
What Was The Cause Of Your Bleeding Between Periods?
I attended my local GP (Male) and when I told him my concerns his response was 'Oh you might have ovarian cancer'. I asked for an ultra scan because I worried. This scan showed I had some small fibroids growing which he decided was the cause of the bleeding. During life your periods will change for many different reasons. Later at age 44 my period stopped for 3 months and I visited another male doctor this time he felt I was too young to be entering menopause and he insisted I have a pregnancy test ‘which was negative’, even though I told him I had a tubal ligation (tubes tied) at age 26, at that stage the blood test showed my hormone levels were normal range. This time my periodic bleeding had meant I was starting menopause and it continued for a few more months until my period stopped completely later that same year? I had 2 separate blood tests with conflicting results because my hormone levels were still fluctuating so it’s my advice to always get a 2nd opinion from the same or different doctor. I had urine, blood screening and scans to determine my diagnosis and changed doctors 3 times until I got answers.
Advice
- My advice is not to panic or jump to any conclusions as there are many harmless things that can cause this. For me it meant early symptoms of menopause. Luckily 95% of all ovarian or uterus cysts/tumours/fibroids are benign. I prefer too see female doctors because they have their own personal experiences to draw on. I recommend medical consultation from at least 2 different doctors. Your local GP for urine and blood screening, and ask her for referral to a specialist for scans. An ultra sound scan should confirm a correct diagnosis as blood tests will not determine if you have any internal growth.
