What Symptoms Of Gallbladder Disease Did You Have?

I was 20 years old (am now 64) and had just given birth to my daughter five week prior. I had an attack that doubled me over in pain. Morphine was the only remedy at the hospital. They also admitted me stating that extreme pain would perforate my stomach. Mine were the small "gravel" stones that traveled easily, thus, the extreme pain. I experienced no nausea and did not throw up.

What Happened When You Were Diagnosed With Gallstones?

I entered the hospital through the ER and was admitted. The "test" they performed was to give me a couple of pieces of fried bacon the next morning. When I went into yet another attack, they determined I had gallstones. They kept saying I was too young, but my great grandmother, grandmother, mother and father all had theirs removed. Surgery was done the next day and it was at a time before laproscopic surgeries. My incision was about 12" long over my abdomen and to my right side. Hospitalization was a week.

Advice

  • After that, there may have been a few foods that didn't set right, but mostly, I ate as I wanted. You can't avoid, prevent or help gall bladder disease or stones. The only remedy is to stop putting it off and get rid of it.

Yes, in 1966. Old-fashioned abdominal surgery.

What Happened During Your Recovery?

While sore, I recovered quite well.

What Advice Do You Have For Others Considering Surgery?

Do it, get it over with and get on with your life. You might have to give up some of your favorite foods, but allowing it to become worse is more dangerous for your overall health.
