When Did You Have Your Hysterectomy?

My hysterectomy was on August 12, 2010.

What Type Of Hysterectomy Did You Have?

I had the laproscopic vaginally-assisted hysterectomy.

Has Your Sex Life Changed Since Your Hysterectomy?

I did bleed after the first time due to scar tissue build up. Dr. put some ointment on and I have had no problems since then. My sex life is better than ever and I am making up for lost time! Definitely worth it.

Would You Have A Hysterecotmy Again?

ABSOLUTELY!!! It changed my life for the better and the recovery time is very speedy. I only took pain meds for 5 days, but was up and around the same day. I elected to have outpatient day surgery and it went very well.

What Led You To Have A Hysterectomy?

Two years of heavy bleeding with huge blood clots. Never knowing when I was going to bleed again. Tried birth control pills(several different ones) that did not work. Then I started bleeding and didn't stop for 4 and a half months straight. Two ultrasounds showed nothing but a thick uterus. After two years of this, I went to another doctor, and told him my history. He suggested endometrial ablation. I said "No, I want a hysterectomy." 3 weeks later, I was in surgery. My follow up visit proved that I had endometriosis, fibroid tumors, and Dephesia. He said I would have had to have the hysterectomy anyway. Best choice I ever made.

How Has Hysterectomy Affected Your Daily Life?

It was the absolute best decision I have ever made. I have more energy than ever before. I am more active than I have been in years. I have the best partner in the world and he has been wonderful! Our sex life is better than ever and I can't get enough! It was worth the wait for both of us.

I am not taking hormones or anything, due to the fact that I still have my ovaries. The hysterectomy took my cervix and uterus. The only difference is NO BLEEDING! That is the best thing ever. I never have to worry about that again. My life is better than ever and I am finally the happiest girl in the world!

Advice

  • You know your body better than anyone! If something is wrong and your doctor will not do anything, find another doctor who will listen to you and your needs. It took me 2 years to figure out my doctor was in it for the money. I found another doctor who listened and cared. Within 3 weeks of finding this new doctor and telling him everything, I was in surgery having my hysterectomy. Do not let the doctor play head games with you. Do not let yourself suffer like I did. Get another doctor. If the second one doesn't help, keeping searching until you find the right one. Find one that is specialized in this field and highly recommended.
