When Did You First Hear About Menstruation?
I was 6 and my cousins were 15 and I use to watch them and also in the 5th grade my teacher started teaching us a little about periods.
What Did Your Mother Tell You About Menstruation?
My mother just said...If you have sex you will have a baby!! I was totally lost until I learned in sex-ed about my body and how girls have their periods and why. My mother and I weren't close and I was to figure out about my own body. If it wasn't for sex-ed I will be totally lost. When my mother left me with if I have sex I will have a baby, I was horrified because I hadn't had sex yet I was only 7 years old when I had my first period. I wish my mother would have told me cause for awhile I was messed up in the head.
What I'd Do Differently
- I actually talked to my daughter before she started her period. Then I signed her up during the summer to the group call "Brown Eye Girls" It teaches them about their bodies and how girls mature differently. We had books to go over. My daughter is very educated about her body she helps other young girls that had mamas like mine...they don't tell the child the truth. I was very comfortable talking to my daughter and she enjoys it!!!
