Urinary tract infections or UTI accounts for over 8 million doctor office visits annually. While antibiotic treatment is imperative to cure UTI, some things offer relief from the pain and can help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections. If you have ever been diagnosed with painful UTI, what have you found helps relieve the symptoms of UTI? What have you tried that didn't work to subdue the pain of UTI? What have you found helps prevent recurrent UTI?

Teen UTI

I have frequent UTI's; some more painful than others. I find that cranberry juice is the best "home remedy". AZO really helps aswell but not as good as perscription drugs. They really need to find more ways to reduce the pain of a UTI because I'm sure there has to be more. UTI's are a horibble experience ecspeacially for a teen in school because you constantly need to use the bathroom but the teacher won't let you and you're always moving around in your chair. And all the people really just get on your nerves (like most people get annoyed on their period) and makes the pain worse. Not to mention gym.

uti make you feel like you want to die?

I'm currently going through my monthly trial of torture. Not my period, but the dreadful uti! The pain gets so severe, I constantly am weak in the knees and nauseas. The unexpected and abrupt pain ruins me for 1-2 days before I'm able to get to the doctor to receive a 5-7 days worth of antibiotics. My advice: always finish the antibiotic! When I don't finish mine, I usually get another within a week. Drink plenty of water to continuously flush out the infection. Uri Calm, which is over the counter, helps tremendously with the pain. Oatmeal baths help for soothing. I know peeing is horrid, but always push through to have a thorough stream and help to get out the bacteria. Take daily dosages of cranberry pills and always drink plenty of water (atleast 64 ounces a day). I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to ask for the daily antibiotic for prevention or the pill to take after intercourse. Uti's are awful! Feel better & get to the doctor asap.

The curs of an UTI

I'm 24 and been dealing with utis my whole life.. They started when soda was more important than water. it took many years for me to figure out what I can and can not drink (even though I'm soda free now). Reading everyones posts has given me some insight on do's and don'ts. Vit. C and peeing after sex is new to me. Thank you! What little I have discovered over the years is... Long bubble baths, too tight of panties or jeans, waiting to go pee, low water intake, and now letting the bacteria settle after sex cause the horrible utis. I am dealing with my worst one yet as I type this and knowing I'm not alone in this very painful battle is comforting. Thank ladies and I hope you all will live a uti free life :)

I have suffered from uti problems all my life..i think the causes for me are having sexual intercourse, waiting too long to urinate, and drinking too much coffee and dark sodas instead of plenty of water ...I once got such a bad infection my ob dr said the bacteria could have gone into my blood stream if I had not gone in to treat it . That scared me so I finally went to see a urologist since it seemed I had been getting utis frequently (like 2 or 3 times a month). The urologist did a procedure in the hospital where he medicated my glaser, like a wash of some kind..he said my bladder lining was very irritated and he also distended my urethra to allow the urine to drain out completely...i had not gotten a uti in over a year! But im on this page because their back !! I think the cause this time was sexual intercourse w my hubby....it's been 1 week that I've been feeling like this so it's time to go see my ob for some antibiotics..anyway the whole point is ..we are not alone..

Hope it helps..

I've also suffered from cronic uti's my whole life, since I was 5 years old. I'm now 16 and have been getting them alot I think from having sex with my boyfriend. When I was little a friend told my mom to fill the bathtub up with water and put some vinegar in it (don't put too much or it will sting). This really helped me; I hope it helps one of you. Uti's suck.

ACT FAST

I frequently get UTI's and when I get them I have no warning signs untill BAM, I've got it! It is absolutly debilitating. The more water I drink the worse it gets because it causes me to have to use the bathroom more and that causes my bladder and urethra to spasm. It's horrible :( I have one right now that's why I'm posting. I went to the doc today and he prescribed Macrobid. That seems to work real well for me. Thank God for AZO though to help out until the antibiotics take affect. Key thing for me is drink lots of water ALL the TIME. Something I seem to forget untill I'm rudley reminded. Acting fast is a must with UTI's.
